I love credit cards so much!

I have to pick up my DD from Dulles at 9 am on a Monday. It is a little over 3 hrs from my house without morning traffic. Figured might as well spend the night closer. It is the AAA rate from Sheraton Reston.

The reason I asked is I'm sifting through all the rates for nights I know I need before Dec 31, and possible nights I might do just to get to 50 nights. Ocean City, Md has a $59 rate for seniors in December. I could stay over a few nights and it would be a bonus if the weather stayed nice, but that's pushing the envelop to expect. Getting ready to look at SPG next!

I need to get as many Chase UR and/or United points as I can by late September/Early October. I do not want business cards or any cards with AF over $100ish. Here is part of my plan:

  • DH is 0/24 so I will refer him to the CSP and after we meet the spend on that I will refer him CF. I will add one of my kids as an AU on each.
  • By the time we get the above mentioned cards I should be under 5/24. I will get the United Mileage Card (waived AF first year, then $95). If they offer extra points for AU, I can do that (not DH)
  • If time allows (I think it will as we can easily meet MSR right now), I will refer DH to the United Mileage Card.
  • Depending on time I may get the CFU for myself.
Any other ways to amass UR and/or United points without business cards or high AF? Also - will all this activity cause suspicion with Chase (shutdown risk?) I have not applied for a Chase card since fall, 2017. My latest card was Jan 2018 - Discover IT. I have been churning very slowly (1-2 cards per year) but want to pick up pace just for a few months and then cool it after October/November.

You could get and refer each other to the FU. No fee and I find the overall 1.5 UR’s does add up. (I know I am the aberration but I like my FU). Plus the referral bonus would help build UR’s. I think it is a pretty low spend requirement as well.

Yes. Getting the CFU is part of my plan. Thanks.

Would check with Chase to see if u prequalify for 30k in branch before u do a referral. Those might still be around.
Did not know about this. So if I go to a branch to apply for CFU I could possibly earn 30,000 UR points?

I had no idea you couldn't buy gift cards at Walgreens with a credit card. I went to go use my freedom for some Disney GCs and was totally shot down. Not sure how we'll max out our two freedoms now. :(

On a different subject ... I just signed up for ShippingEasy. Have any of you used it before? Anything to watch out for? I put my CIP in, I'm hoping it codes 3x.

I bought a $100 Disney GC at Walgreens with my CFU the other day. I had to show ID because of the dollar amount of the GC but no problem at all.

This plus the night from the $3000 spend I did last month on our Marriott card that I am still waiting to post will put us at 45. Getting closer!

Really? I was so mad after being shut down at two Walgreens stores in Northern California that I called corporate and they said it applied to all stores. I guess not! If anyone knows of a Walgreens in Northern California that will sell gift cards let me know!

Will DH applying for 3 Chase cards in 3 months be possible? Will he be suspect for a shutdown?

Really. It was absolutely no problem at all.

I would NOT go for 3 in 3 months. That could be asking for trouble. I’d try to do no more than 2 cards in 3 months. Another factor here would be how many cards has he applied for overall in the prior 3/6/12/24 months and how many inquiries are showing on his report.

Ok. He will be at 0/24 this month. He has not applied for any cards in many years. He was AU on two of my cards in the past 2.5 years.
I will have him do the CSP soon. Then I will get the Chase United. Then after MSR is met on those I will have him do the CF. After that I will reevealute.

Thanks everyone for your help and advice.

I think I would have him apply for both CSP and CF on same day, ASAP. You have less than 3 months to meet your spend anyway, no sense in waiting to meet spend on one first. That way you have more time for points to post. If you can meet spend on all 3 then go ahead and also do your CFU now.
