I love credit cards so much!

We renew in Feb so I have until 2019 to decide. The 119 is a lot to me considering I've been a prime member since they began way back when and it's almost twice as high now.

My biggest hold out on cancelling is that we have been Prime so long that we are grandfathered into the old plan where your Prime membership covered 4 accounts. My mom is on ours as is my dh's company. Not that they could not afford the Prime but they are a non-profit and money is scarce. They 'ride' on our membership (as does my mom) and I am really hesitant to take that away. And once you stop the membership, you can never go back. I have a feeling we will pay the $20 more per year.
I'm unsure what the grandfathered thing is for this..... I have an acct, at times, others in my fam have used my acct for shipping...is this not a general policy? what did I miss?
ETA..... I'm torn. I think 119 is way too high.... and their prices aren;t always the best anymore.... but I do love the convenience...and the customer service is SOOOOO good (I posted in another forum about a Prime now order that went all wrong in a big way, but they fixed it ASAP for us) I never watch the video stuff (I have hulu and netflix) so now I have to decide I guess...... if the gc trick works, would we have to buy before May 11?

Oh my (drool) I wish I could qualify! The one and only time I tired for chase biz cc, I had a rollicking good phone call in which it felt like the inquisition, and I was denied (I just sell some junk on ebay etc) and this was before they got really picky!

I put eBay sales as my business. $1000 in revenue. Got approved with nothing more than a verification.

I hope that they will match this offer. I tried a few weeks ago to get the private offer matched with no luck, but since this offer is open to anyone, I am hoping they will give me the extra 20k UR without a fight.

I'll keep Prime because I need to be able to watch Grand Tour and it's exclusive to Prime. I also use the shipping, but I used to be on a friends account so I hadn't paid for shipping in a long time. I do get everything in 2 days or less. I like the same day shipping when it's available. Living near Seattle has some advantages but most everything I order comes from Vegas or Lexington, KY, so weird. A lot of the stuff is delivered by Amazon or OnTrac here rather than USPS. I love it for dog food and other random stuff. Mine renews in Nov and I'll make sure it goes on my Discover card. Pretty sure I got the 5% off it last year when I did that.

Coming out of my lurkerhood to ask for some Disneyland help. I recently came up with a grand plan of going to California next summer. Planning on 5 or so days in San Francisco and another 5 or so days in Disneyland area. Flying from the Northeast. Have not decided on flying or driving between the 2 cities. I have about 100K UR and 40K SWA RR. Close to enough to fly us there and back from the northeast. My plan is for DH, who is at 4/24 to open the two SW cards at the end of the year and hopefully get the CP for 19/20.
Here's some info:
DH
CSP 1/17
Freedom 2/17
AU IHG 4/17 (yeah, wish we didn't do AUs, but done now)
AU Amex hilton 7/17
CIP 3/18
also has an old amazon card and AU on Disney from years ago

Me:
AU on the above CSP and Freedom 1/17, 2/17
IHG 4/17
Amex hilton 7/17
SW plus 1/18
also Disney from years ago and AU on amazon from years ago

I opened SW to get enough points to fly my son and I for a weekend trip to WDW in June. I had no intention of trying for the CP because we only fly about once/year. Until I had the grand plan for California. Also have a cruise booked for 2020, so it would help with that also.

So, to make a long story longer, the airfare should be covered with some (but not a lot) UR left over. I'm mostly looking for Disneyland (or San Francisco) hotel recommendations and the best way to earn points for them. I'm guessing I don't enough time to earn meaningful hotel points with a hotel card, maybe go for more URs? Thinking of CIP for myself in Jan? Any recommendations on Disneyland hotels within walking distance?

You can remove yourself from the AU if you want or when you get denied call in and say the AU cards shouldn’t count for 5/24 because you are not financially reponsible for those cards. YMMV though and some reps may refuse just HUCA if they don’t cooperate. I’d have you DH refer you to the CIP since you are 3/24 removing the AU cards. Then I’d get another Chase card after a bit. could you use a Marriott? in August the new 100k point offer should be coming out. Then again wait until maybe Novemberish and have you DH refer you to CSP and maybe get the CSR if you can hit th spend. Make sure to apply on the same day. December have your DH go for the Southwest cards. If you need more cards hit Amex Biz cards.

The House Spirits place is really cool! They allow one guest per pp membership so we got our friends in with us using both mine and DH cards. The four of us each got a flight so the bartender brings out a tray of SIXTEEN drinks. Granted, they were filled 1/3 of the way but after we drank all of them you wouldn't know that so we were getting some pretty amazing looks from passersby :rotfl2:
. Capers is Ok (there's 2- I am taking about the Cafe )... If you like cheese definitely get the cheese plate. It's enough for two people and a great plane snack. We usually get a hot meal and spend the rest of the credit on to go food. Know going into it that the service is pretty terrible. There's like 5+employees milling about behind the counter talking and laughing while you wait for food. The food isn't that great either (we've tried the gyros, biscuits and gravy, scones, rice Krispy treat, and lemon bars. They LOOK amazing but are all a let down) If you have the option I'd try out the Capers Market. It's got more pre packaged but locally made goodies.

I'm thinking 119 might be the deal breaker with Amazon. I spend so much time making sure the items I want aren't a cheap knockoff anymore I'm about ready to be done.

Thanks so much for the input on PP restaurant options in Portland! DH and I both have cards, so sounds like we should be able to get the benefit for both of us and our two kids.

Luckily, our Amazon Prime membership just renewed at the old price. In going back to check, I did notice that even the charge for the Prime membership earned 5% back on my Amazon card, which was somewhat surprising to me, but I'll take it! I still use Amazon enough that I'm pretty certain I'll continue to renew, even at the higher rate, but at least I have a year to mull it over.

DH and I had made that mistake also of adding each other as AU but I contacted all 3 of the credit bureaus and had them remove the AU from our records. There was online dispute form that I used. All 3 agencies removed the AUs for us so we now only have the ones that we are primary on our report. (I only did this for the AUs that were new not longstanding AU like Discover, Disney and Amazon.) I took about a month to complete since one of the credit agencies moved slower than the other 2.

Thanks, I just did this after your reply. I had requested to be removed from chase last month, then earlier this month I was denied for a card for having too many recent accounts. When I just went to dispute it now, I found that 1/3 of the bureaus had not taken it off my report. So hopefully that will be sorted and move up my card schedule...

Thanks, I was avoiding the call after a recent denial because it was for a business card, with a "business." I've just requested the AUs be taken off my report, so will see how it goes. Good plan though, I'll write it down. :-) I've never had a marriott card, will look into it in August.

And I forgot Grand Tour. DH would be very unhappy if we didn't get that.

Yeah, it is easier to get them removed. If you don’t want the Marriott you can just go for the CSP/CSR double dip. I was thinking it would be better for you to get to 4/24 and then double dip your 5/24 slot. I just suggested the Marriott because they should be increasing the offer soon and you mentioned wanting hotel points. The UR cards will give you a ton of options to cover hotels though too, you can book through the portal or transfer to Hyatt, IGH, or Marriott. Check the portal and the partner websites to determine the better value.

At least while I can still transfer points from DH's CIP to my CSR, I'm becoming quite the fan of Plastiq! This is surely old hat for anyone who has used Plastiq before, but I just got an email from Plastiq indicating that my check to the Ada Country Assessor for my car registration renewal has been cashed. I really like getting that info! And this morning, I just removed the auto pay from our bank account for Intermountain Gas and set up a payment via Plastiq for that one.

AND, I'm about to go for a bank account bonus, which I thought I would NEVER do! But Chase keeps sending me offers for $300 if I open a checking account and have at least one direct deposit made to it. I've shrugged it off til now due to the hassle factor, but it turns out it is super easy to change the direct deposit of my pay checks online via our HR portal. Our primary accounts are with another bank that doesn't have branches in Idaho, so when we first moved, I set up a Chase savings account and maintain a very small balance there so we can make the rare ATM withdrawal if we need cash (there is a Chase branch very conveniently located to our house and my office). I'm mulling over moving all of our banking accounts to Chase eventually, but I'm not there yet. But in the meantime, I figure I can probably open the checking account with the offer, move the balance over from our savings account and close that one, top off the balance a little bit to avoid incurring a fee for the checking account, and then just route a portion of one of my upcoming paychecks to the checking account via direct deposit to get the $300 bonus. Seems easy enough to try for some free cash. You guys are all rubbing off on me, lol!

They are the only reason I started paying for it. I don't really watch anything else because I can never find anything else. With netflix I get a month or two when the Crown comes out and then I'm done. I do like that they put new episodes out weekly so I don't binge watch it though. I'm sure Amazon has made out great with signing them.

Yeah, a while back, Amazon changed what "Two Day Shipping" means to 2 days once your order has shipped from the warehouse or vendor, but that doesn't include any additional time it takes to prepare items for shipment and delivery is then subject to the courier's delivery schedule.

Yeah, Its just two day from your local distro but if they don't have it its 'processing time' to get the item from another distro to a local one then shipped ground. Really all they do now is have local drop ship points so they can just use ground services vs the old days where they really used 2nd day air.

Really? No one else watches The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on Prime? Fabulous show!

I watched the first episode and liked it. Have to get back to it.

In regards to the raise in price of Prime, I may cancel on principal. 20% is a huge increase. I did not get a 20% raise in salary this year (or any year) and know of noone who does. Make it 5% and Amazon would keep me. I like the free shipping, but there are plenty of places that offer it without a "membership." I use the Prime video on occasion and can live without it.

Many people in the Amazon prime thread here on the Budget Board are saying how they would keep it. To each his own, and I am not criticizing them, but it does surprise me.

Edit: I have Prime because American Express had an offer in October - I think it was extra points (don't remember how many but it was maybe 2,000). If Amazon puts Prime on sale as they sometimes do or if Amex offers a good enough bonus I may at some point get it again. I also have college students at home - so I can have one of them get it half off and use that account. But I won't just automatically renew at $119 without some sort of incentive.

Even hubby who is still not convinced all the CC stuff is legal (or "legal", but I give up discussing it) and is a reluctant participant jumped on the Chase bonuses. He thought about it for about a day but came to the conclusion free money is ok and actually drove over to Jersey to open it in branch (we can't open online). When the $300 hit he did remark it was the easiest money earned. And we got a Disney debit card out of it
I've got a spreadsheet started to keep track of estimated tax owed on the interest as I plan to do a few more of these in the next year. AND you could knock me over with a feather as hubby even volunteered that when we get the bonus from the savings we can use the money we parked there to look for another bonus
