Has anyone noticed that when you look at the public point fairs it says say 3,000pts but when I logged in and tried to adjust the flight from say 5,000pts down to the 3,000pts it would say 3000pts with a strikethrough and then say 2000pts next to it. Seemed every time I went to 'rebook' the flights at a better rate I would find that they would offer me an even lower rate than the public rate to stay on the same flight. SURE! :cool1:
I've had that happen to me a couple of times. It's a nice surprise! I've also had it go the other way, saying the rate I chose was no longer available. Thankfully in those cases, so far I've only seen an increase in 5 or 10 points, not a major jump.

I have had some success on a site called Skiplagged. You can enter the airport you want to fly into (Juneau or Anchorage might be the most likely) and then see the cheapest flights into that airport. Then see if you can get to that airport for a reasonable price To make a connection.

I love this idea so I went to check it out. I am seeing where you input both your departure city and your arrival city and the dates. Am I overlooking the feature you mentioned above? I'd love to have that for Hawaii b/c I could use SW to get to wherever.

Not sure why, but our December trip (19-25) to Disney we paid 80k for 3 people originally but every time I checked the prices they went down so I got point adjustments. Final point cost for all three of us was under 25k. The Christmas day last flight out ended up going down to 2k per person.

Wow, I have flown SW a ton of times and never seen it offered lower on logging in. Awesome! Maybe it is new!

My husband has a work trip scheduled for Alaska in early June. Anyone know how to get to Alaska for cheaper than $1000?? Very tempting but only if I can get the price way down.
Alaska Air?
Where are you flying from and when? I can book nonstop Chicago to Anchorage in June for $551

So DH said I could apply him for IHG. Is there a current 80k offer and how might I get that to pop up? If not, does someone have a screenshot so that I can SM Chase for a match? Thanks.

@Jen and Ashwin I wasn't able to get the IHG 80k points no matter which way I tried so applied and got the 60k + $50 statement credit. There is a screenshot on Reddit somewhere under an IHG thread for r/churning that you might be able to use for the match. I haven't tried yet.

Earlier this week I posted how I applied under the 60k offer (it was all I could find) and then once approved sent a SM requesting the 80k offer. I just said that I could never get the 80k to work. They responded back that they would match it if I made the increased spend on that offer of $2000 in 3 months. They said in the message to just respond back to that SM when I made the spend and they would honor the 80k offer.

Chase just called about fraudulent activity on DH's CSP for the second time in 6 months. :sad1:

Applied for CIC last night. Got pending message. Automated line says 2 weeks. This is good, right? Will it say approved or do I just wait for mail?

So we have almost made the spend on the CIP embarrassingly quickly. Less than a month and I only have a thousand to go. I am going to put it on hold for a bit since technically have until July to meet spend.

I have the IHG on its way with the $2000 minimum spend. I figure if nothing else on it I can venture into the Plastiq world and use the IHG (it is a Mastercard) to pay the mortgage. Is it right that since it is a Mastercard it should not be too hard to pay the mortgage with it? I just will need to pay the fee?

At any rate posting this as justification as I think I am going to apply for DH to get the CIC today. I don’t think it wil disappear super soon but I really want to get those 50k instead of the 30k.

And @peel I am sorry too! I know we have had that happen like 3 times on DH’s Ink. Such a pain!

You can enter one city and then instead of a destination you can choose “anywhere”.
So start with the destination and work backwards. After you find a decent price try to reverse.

Fairbanks is where he is going. My home airport is Pittsburgh, but would consider going to Cleveland or BWI if that is cheaper. Maybe the Fairbanks part is what is making it more costly.

Is this higher Delta Gold offer worth it? I've not delved into the Delta cards, or Amex, at all yet. I'm near a Delta hub, but usually fly Spirit simply because Delta is often several times more expensive.

I can find Chicago to Fairbanks around $600 but no direct flights to Fairbanks
Just briefly checking, it seems Cleveland or Pittsburgh flights connect in Chicago quite a bit. So maybe a cheap flight to Chicago on SW or something then AS to Fairbanks?

Alaska Air has Flights RT from Seattle for about $360 if you can position yourself there. I see SW flies from Pittsburgh to Seattle if that is an option for you

I don't know why I'm having such a hard time deciding what to do about the IHG card. I have a bunch of medical bills sitting here waiting for a new MSR. Before it looked like IHG was disappearing, I was planning to either dip my toes in Amex MR waters, or pick up the Alaska card. I think I'm hung up on the idea that we wouldn't be getting IHG for DH at the same time, so I'd be eating up a 5/24 slot for one annual night certificate and points that aren't worth all that much. And we don't know if we'd be grandfathered into the old terms or if we'll lose the ability to use the certificate at any level hotel. I'm really overthinking this.

That’s a good point you make. It’s possible that if they aren’t offering a sign up bonus they might not implement a */24 rule. Plus posting stories in the travel community is a really nice way to earn more points quickly! Yeah, it will be all about the transfer partners and */24 and as @gottalovepluto points out ... math.

Agree on travel stories and the Rewards Boost portal is pretty handy, too (if I can remember to use it, I often to default to United or SkyPesos!)

For a lot of people Arrival+ or maybe even the premier makes a lot of sense, because let's be honest: most folks don't have 20+ accounts like we do here. They want 1 or 2 cards to set it and forget it. Now will I sign up for the premier without a bonus? Doubtful but I'll need to read about all the perks, etc before making a decision. I'm hoping the rule about not upgrading doesn't last too long.

@gottalovepluto

Thanks for the math breakdown.

I'm basically out of the Chase business because of 5/24 so for me I'm always looking for ways to increase my options to gain/use points in other programs and I try to deal in transferrable points currencies. That's why I'm so heavily invested in MR - so if Barclays suddenly adds AA as a transfer partner, that opens up a lot of options for me, not mention Lufthansa. I hear you on the spend and sign-up bonuses, tho.
