I love credit cards so much!

If I get this CIC, DH is going to need so many labels for all his different cards to know what to use :rotfl2:

i got a CI+, it stays out of my wallet but it sits nicely with paypal.
You gotta teach him how to use gyft.com... idk whats worse... :P

This CIC offer is really upsetting my all-nicely-stacked applecart! I had finally decided to go for the 35k SPG biz offer, and thinking CIC after that at the $300 cash back offer. Now, I'm wondering if I do the $500 CIC instead (for dh...he is 3/24) and then do the spg biz at the lower offer after!?!?! Argh! It's going to take me 3 mos to meet that spend on the spg and the CIC may have dropped back down by then.
You know I'm all "Mr. Strategy"...but I always say you need to be ready to call an audible if a big-time offer pops up. For me last year that was the 75k Citi Prestige - don't regret hitting that one for a moment! Obviously nobody knows what Chase is doing here...but they don't change offers often...CF and CFU have been at 15,000 URs since the beginning of time. CSP has been at 50k since before 95% of the folks here were churning...CSR came out at 100k for awhile then moved to 50k and hasn't moved since then...CIP has been at 80k since it was born...

I have no insider knowledge, but historically they don't operate like AMEX (i.e. short lived offers) - Chase's typical pattern is to let offers ride for awhile. I personally hope that's the case with CIC this time. So I'm looking at how this new offer fits in my strategy now...but I'm not ready to call a crazy audible and jump on it either yet.

EDIT: IF I was somebody at 3/24 or 4/24 and already have a CIP this card would basically jump to the top of my list...

Both of you should be in the safe zone at this point (for sake of this I'm going to add the AU cards and business cards because I'd think Chase can look at all of that when determining bust-out risk). So for these purposes your husband has 4 new accounts in the last 24 months, 4 in the last 12, 2 in the last 6 and 1 in the last 3 (4/24, 4/12, 2/6, 1/3). You have 3 in the last 24, 3 in the last 12, 2 in the last 6 and 1 in the last 3 (3/24, 3/12, 2/6, 1/3).

If I were developing your strategy, I'd have your husband refer you to CIP next. Let's say you do that in April...then come back with your husband in June/July for the CSR (and I'd strongly consider the CSR/CSP double dip but that's for you to decide ;)). If your combined credit limits with Chase start to get really high I'd consider reducing them a little as well.

Thank you! In my notes I had written down CSR for DH in April/May and then CIP for me in July, but I may do it your way. Going to look at our options a little bit more. I just SO do not want to jeopardize our chances of getting CSR! Though if I wait to May and do CIP for me, then I would be 0/3, which maybe would look better... so many decisions!

So the thing is that want to look at you both completely separate...when you apply, what he did won't matter; AND when he applies, what you did won't matter :)

You getting a card now (or in May) won't jeopardize his ability to get a CSR. As a matter of fact, the longer he waits to apply for CSR, the better his chances :) PLUS the reason I say to wait on the CSR is that when you get it you have 12 (almost 13) months before you have to pay that annual fee a second time. If you get it near the end of earning your URs then you can use all those URs with your CSR and consider cancelling/downgrading that CSR to avoid the yr2 AF.

Thanks for your thoughts!

I was thinking the same. It seems Chase offers do stick around for awhile. I'd be ready about the end of June to apply for the CIC if I go ahead with the spg biz.

Why do you say this would jump to the top if 3/24 with the CIP already...cause that is where my dh is right now...?

I'm basing it on these assumptions:
  • you're interested in URs
  • you probably have a CSR or CSR (or are intending to get one before you hit 5/24
  • you've gotten the top Chase Biz card out there
  • if you get any more personal cards you start to enter 5/24 banishment territory.
  • Once you're at 3/24, 4/24 and other cards start to look tempting (i.e. an SPG personal, a Hyatt, etc) you could lock yourself out of this card and this is a phenomenal offer.

I think all of these things are true for us, so that sounds like this offer would jump ahead of the SPG biz. However, this offer will probably hang around for awhile. I can only think of a few Chase offers that were short-lived and they were all on co-branded cards...decisions, decisions...I think I am still leaning towards the spg biz but this offer is so tempting cause it is so good and I really want the card. Definitely a keeper card.

Well, I've already taken the SPG Biz plunge, so I'm out of the running until I get through that MSR. Maybe this one will be next, if it sticks around a while. I was going to go on new card hiatus for a while, but this really is addictive! I was planning to PC my new CIP to a CIC anyway once I made it through the first year, so this would just be picking up the bonus instead of PCing.

@SouthFayetteFan @Lain @gottalovepluto - Thanks for your helpful responses! I did SM Chase and got the sign up bonus details in writing. I don't know why but I was freaking out last night when I couldn't find any mention in paperwork, or online, of the sign up bonus. Also, regarding the website quirks, I kept thinking I was the one who couldn't figure it out. I would have never expected that it just works that way. It's hard to believe Chase is okay with that. It's bizarre, LOL!

Anyway, one more question. I know I already have the hard pull on my CR but my understanding is that this credit card account itself (CIP) will not show up on my credit report. Is that right?

So not to further complicate this further...but with the SPG being a limited time offer...if you want that 35k offer it super jumps up to the top of the list, HAHA

Arggggg I'm playing around with the BA site (yes again) since I now see the very flights I first wanted to book last week, that the rep said weren't available as awards, are now available! so my choice is pay the $55 pp change fee,or try the cancel/rebook way. I 'tested' on one of our flights a cancel....still no avios back in acct however after a couple of hours. (I should learn to stop overthinking things) any advice? How long to wait before I call and ask about the points?

That's what we're here for, we're like a support group for credit cards and the freak outs they cause :) You should have seen my couple day freak-out when my CSR app was denied as I was just dipping my toes into all this and I had to HUCA 3 times before I got approved- eek! It wasn't pretty but the people on this thread were here for moral support and sage guidance. (No, CIP won't show as an account on your personal credit report, just as a hard pull from Chase)

Yeah - CIP should NOT show on your personal credit report.

No worries - you're not the first to "freak" over that. It's weird at first but when you think about it - this standard mailer goes out to all kinds of people, with different bonuses potentially. Glad you're all set!! :)

Thank you so much! We still have about $1500 to finish up on DH's CIP, so what I'm thinking is I'll finish that here over the next couple weeks and in the meantime I'll get started April 1 on my CF category. I think I'll apply for my CIP with DH's referral on May 1. I know that might seem overly cautious, but I'm pretty risk averse and don't like to break the rules. I just want to treat my family a nice vacation on these UR points :)

nothing wrong with hitting that freedom category to space things out.

5% on the freedom is actually 7.5% when redeemed through a CSR. Not a bad play at all!

This is my CIP! I don’t think I’ve ever swiped it; it sits nicely in my desk drawer. But it’s in my PayPal and Plastiq wallets and earns me mucho points.

I know, I have so much left to explore... I will keep my internet service on CIP. Need to explore Gyft, haven't even look at it before! I've already gotten him to put my CF in for his Paypal transactions through eBay for next quarter though.

ETA: Also, thank you for your advice too! I really, REALLY considered the SPG Biz. I opened the application page several times. However, I just really want to focus on UR earning cards as my top priority right now. I'm sure the day will come when I regret not getting those extra SPG points over the regular offer, but I just don't think it's the right time for me to get the card right now! You can shame me when I'm posting here next year trying to figure out how to get more SPG/Marriott points :)

@DisneyMandC, I agree with this. Chase views you and your husband as completely separate profiles, so what cards you get and when you got them have no bearing on your husband’s chances of approval or shutdown, and vice versa. The only consideration where you’d look at both you and your husband together is your household’s ability to meet the MSR on yours or your husband’s card(s).

Love it :) And this is why in 2 player mode you try to alternate apps. It spaces out "your" and "their" apps more which increases odds of auto-approval and avoids shutdown risk.
