I love credit cards so much!

I don't understand why you would use apple pay and not just pay with your amex. AFIK there's no deal goinf on with amex and apple pay.
I like the security of not having to enter my card number on the website, and them receiving a temporary number - in case of fraud. I had fraudulent charges a couple years ago and the only recent charge was an Etsy purchase. I know the number could've been held for a long time and then tried for the fraudulent charges, but it still leaves me a little weary.

The *only* reason I can think of to keep the CSP is for people using your 'supportive links'. I had two people (not DIS'ers) ask me for mine after I PC'ed my CSP. It was well before my AF would have been due too so I really should have just held it until 1 year. Also now that the CSP has a higher bonus than the CSR, and a much lower AF, people are more drawn to that card...at least those who don't know CC's and the benefits of the CSR. Having said all that, no one may ever use your link and imo, the CSR is a much more desirable card in every way.

Good point. I have not had the chance to post my referral links so it would not be a problem.

Thanks!

I always seem to have random questions for this board, but everyone's been so helpful!

I have an Etsy offer on my AmEx that I plan to use today before it expires. I noticed that Etsy has an Apple Pay option. If I use Apple Pay with my AmEx, will the offer count? Or do I need to enter my card number directly?

I'd enter the card number directly. There's language on most offers that using a wallet or 3rd party service may not activate the offer. I think there were some people last year that accidentally paid through paypal with their amex out of habit on Etsy and it didn't trigger.

Also, not sure using the Apple Pay would buy you anything additional in case, is there an Apply Pay promo out too?

yeah, i can confirm that it works... i send a $1 to a friend at the beginning of the quarter, got 5x on it.

may i suggest, getting the Mercedes Benz Amex Plat over the Ameriprise Amex? you get 60k MR points + everything the Amex plat comes with. its $550 fee but your MR should cover that, leaving you with 5k($50) MR left. If you use that to transfer to partners, u might get more value back from it. Since its going away, you dont need to worry about the once a lifetime bonus.

Yep I considered the MB plat too.

I guess I just don't know what I want to do right now other than sit here and plan points and avoid my job, which is currently killing my will to live. Sigh.

i give u a reason where a CSP wins over CSR. AU. If you have a big family, Adding 5 AU for free vs CSR where 1 AU is $75. big family would have that benefit with all the insurance coverage.

Another good point. I only have 1 AU on the CSP and none on the CSR. I don’t expect to be adding more AU to the cards though.

Thanks!

I requested the replacement card online. I didn't have to give a reason. I do wonder if you just removed your dh as an AU, would his card continue working? I'd go through SM and ask for him to be removed as an AU'er. I don't call unless I have to!

Yeah. I've pretty much ruled out calling Chase over this issue. The biggest question for me is if I SM and ask for DH to be removed as an AU, will his existing card still work? If I felt confident it would, then I'd do that and once he's off, I think I'd be able to order the replacement card online.

Not that I know of, I was just considering it for the little bit of extra security. I'll enter the card number, I just figured it didn't hurt to ask! Thanks!

I agree with @miztressuz. Amex Offers contain language that the transaction may not qualify if you use their card through a third-party wallet or payment processor (stuff like PayPal or Apple Pay. Just do some extra typing and enter the Amex card number directly. Besides, Amex doesn’t offer any bonus or extra incentive that I know of to use Apple Pay (that would be Chase with their Freedom 5x category this quarter).

REMINDER: The SPG 35k Business offer expires next week on 3/28/18. If you're on the fence about the card...you probably need to start to finalize that decision, lol!

There's a bunch of people on DISchurners who have links for this offer (FYI I do not) so please support one of them if you go for the offer :)

Thanks for the reminder! I'd been waiting to get my CIP taken care of to apply for the SPG via a referral from DH who just received his. I temporarily lifted my credit freeze as a precaution (I already have a platinum business card with Amex bud didn't want to have to talk to anyone if I didn't have to in case they pulled the credit) and was instantly approved!!! After the 12 days of angst with Chase for the CIP it was awesome to see that instant approval. A couple minutes after approval and card is already linked to my account. Now that is an awesome experience! Now we have $14,000 of Amex spend and $5000 of Chase to get through in 3 months. Sadly I already have much of it covered :(

WOW!! That's crazy...that's worth over $100 in flights :) Congrats!!!
I know, right? My immediate thought was: that's a one way to SNA (Disneyland). With my companion pass, it will cover two of us. Whoo hoo!!!

No worries! I do wonder how just buying the tickets outright from Chase TA would code. We paid for rooms last Sept through a TA and they coded 3x.

Do you have a Sam's club membership?

If anyone does this, I’d love to know too! I know with Chase TAs, you have the option to use UR points and/or their UR-earning credit card.

I will definitely report back when I do purchase. Considering waiting until we apply for CSR and get that to purchase both MVMCP and one day tickets for HS, but I will definitely report on how it codes when I do!

And no, no Sam's Club membership. I don't know if it was a fluke today or what. I have other Targets I will try, but I've also heard Wal-mart gift cards will work at Wal-mart, or Best Buy will work. We'll see. I managed to get $500 in Disney gift cards in Target through Target gift cards over the last couple months, so I haven't done too bad!

Thanks so much for the feedback. Now my issue is that I can't order a replacement card online because DH is on there as an AU. I'm kind of chicken to have to speak to someone at Chase and ask for the replacement card and then have to call in again after it is received to get DH off as an AU. Has anyone had to do this to get a replacement card? What reason do you give for needing the replacement? The CSR is a metal card, so it's not like I can say it got bent or cracked or something. I'm wondering if this is even worth the hassle over $75 a year, but I hate spending money that I don't have to.

Haven't done it in your exact situation, but you shouldn't have any issues requesting a replacement card. My dog chewed on my CF and ruined the chip literally days after I got it and they didn't bat an eye when I called and asked for a replacement.

So I know a lot of you don't pay the $75 AF for the CSR AU and just use a replacement card ordered off the primary account. My DH is an AU on my CSR. He uses the card a lot when I am not with him, at cafes, for parking, etc. I'm very tempted to get a replacement card for my CSR and cancel his AU. I just want to make sure he isn't going to have an issue using a card with a clearly female name on it for his purchases. Looking for a little reassurance, I guess, but I'd love to save that $75 a year.

A lot of other people have chimed in with personal experiences that say it’s no big deal. I’ll add that starting next month, Visa is getting rid of their signature requirement for chip and contactless transactions. Merchants can still require it, and places where you have to swipe may still need a signature, but it’s one less thing to worry about in a lot of places. The only times I’m asked to see my card is at Costco to make sure it matches my membership card, and when I’m buying VGCs and in sketchier parts of the city to match it to my ID and make sure I’m not using a stolen card.

I *love* the "my pet chewed on the chip" excuse. I have a very resourceful and incorrigible orange tabby that I could easily blame this on. I'm going to discuss with my DH tonight to see if he has strong feelings about using a card with my name on it. If he's game, then I think I'll brave up and call in and be armed with the pet excuse.

On a different topic, I do have a DP on a positive customer service experience with PayPal. I mentioned in a recent post that I was having trouble transferring the residual amount in my PayPal account to my bank account after exceeding some transfer limit. I kept clicking on the link that said I could remove the transfer limit, and no matter how many times I got a screen saying the limit had been removed, I would still get the error message about exceeding the limit when I tried to make the transfer. This had been going on since last Thurs. evening, so I called PayPal this morning. It was a pretty quick convo with a rep who worked some magic while I was on hold for a minute or two, and then I was able to get the transfer to work while he was still on the line with me just to make sure.

Also, does DH have a newer iPhone that supports Apple Pay? If so, have you considered adding your cards to his Apple Pay wallet? Apple Pay adoption is still spotty, but enough merchants are using it that it might be worth considering.

I added DW’s SPG Biz to my Apple Wallet to help with her MSR and avoid having to request an “employee card.”

ETA: The CIP doesn't work with Apple Pay. I don't know if Chase and Apple ever fixed it, but you can't add the CIP to Apple Pay.

Haha I wish mine had only been an excuse and not the real deal! My golden retriever swiped my credit card off the coffee table on Thanksgiving morning and chewed it- just in time for Black Friday! Didn't he know I was ordering him tennis balls for Christmas?

And I've never once been questioned on using DH's card. I traveled by myself out of state two weeks ago and used it to check into a hotel there with my ID and they never questioned it. I don't think very many places check that type of thing anymore. I'm not sure why.

Great suggestion, but DH is aggravatingly devoted to his iPhone 4 that does not have Apple Pay and on which the MPX app is wonky. I did go ahead and get an employee card for him on my SPG biz since I'll need his help meeting the MSR organically while attempting to sacrifice as little otherwise-bonused spend as possible.

Discover IT question: Warehouse Clubs still this quarter - Sams Club thru the Discover site is ongoing 5% bonus...so purchasing an item at Sams Club online should be ? ? ? I did notice an online purchase at Sams was categorized MERCHANDISE, not warehouse club too...anyone have any input or experience? TIA
I have trouble telling if purchases get the 5% or not. I thought there was a bonus tracker on Discover but I can’t find it. Maybe someone else can find it?

I've made that phone call! Tossed my card at my bed and didn't realize it hit the floor instead when I found it with a bunch of teeth marks the little stinker. Most of the stuff he's chewed on over the years has been my fault for leaving it where he could get them.
