There is a point of land that separates what I call lower Kaanapali Beach (where the Sheraton and Westin are, and also Whaler's Village) from what I call upper Kaanapali beach (where the Westin Ocean Resort Villas and some other timeshares and hotels are). That point is called Black Rock because of its dark volcanic rock, and the whole reef area around Black Rock is excellent for snorkeling. You are correct that there is not a great distance between the two hotels, and there is a nice, paved path that parallels the beach that makes it easy to walk from the Sheraton down to Whaler's Village and the other hotels. It's been a while since I've stayed at either since my parents bought a Westin time share on the upper part of Kaanapali Beach, and we've been going there for our more recent trips in the last few years. From my last experience at the Westin, there is no fridge (other than a mini bar) and no microwave. I can't comment on the Sheraton, but I would suspect the same since they are both true hotels with traditional hotel-style rooms, and not condos/villas.
Thank you!!! seems like a tossup, since points wise they both cost the same...the pools at Westin look so cool- but I'm starting to read reviews which say the Sheraton had a more laid back island feel..(which I prefer)

I'd agree with that. The pools at the Westin probably trump those at the Sheraton, but the Westin is a smaller property in a more crowded section of Kaanapali, so the Sheraton seems a bit more relaxed.

I wanted that offer SOOOOO bad and didn't get one!!! I would have planned a cruise right away!

This specific offer is the primary reason my mom applied for her BCE and got my dad his own card last year. They cruise Carnival A LOT!! She's saved tons using this deal, as it seems to pop up pretty frequently. I used it on a cruise we took last July. Saved $200 using my card and DH's.

I think it’s somewhere around 8:35 (don’t have it in front of me right now). We are flying in on a Saturday though. We didn’t think about that last year when we flew in on a Thursday and we’re staying downtown, but we still got there in about 45 minutes. We also didn’t realize we were going to NYC over Easter and spring breaks... lol oops.

The weekend should be fine. Although, when I was in NY I would drive to a nicer grocery store about 8 miles away. One weekend it took over an hour. Should have just walked to the one two blocks from my apt. Also, if you see on Google maps that there is bad traffic the Q70 stops right outside the terminal and goes to the subway.

:cool1: doing a happy dance b/c this trip next December seems to be falling into place! So far I've booked flights from LAX-OGG on points(avios) a rental car when we get there thru UR portal, A night at Crowne Plaza LAX on points between flying out there and going to HI (IHG) a solid plan for either Sheraton or Westin on points (spg,as soon as I get the final amount) and as soon as my anniversary nights for IHG(x2) come due I have 2 more free nights at Crowne plaza on our way back to east coast(to relax and adjust) also got either JB or SWA points for flights to/from east-west coast(waiting for booking to open).... this seems too ridiculously cheap! (and WAAAAY easier than planning a trip to WDW!)

Sounds fantastic!

well thank you for that.... I'm still confused... I called in today to ask- here's my example- maybe you can tell me if everythings right- so I have a flight from OGG-LAX, on AA using Avios. I see a time on the AA site I like better on the same day, but it doesn't show on the BA site. The flight I have says Milesaaver/20k (AA site) the flight I like better says milesaaver/22.5k.(Alaska Air,but on the AA site) It seems odd, since they're both milesaver economy category- The BA rep on the phone said if it doesn't show on the BA site, It isn't available for awards. I'm just THRILLED to get the flights at all, but I'd prefer the better timed one on AKair.... what do you think, was the info correct from the rep?

Flights that are run by Alaska Air won't show their award availability online on BA but I believe if it's still green you can book it with Avios.

I got my SPG card today!!! Yay! Applied on March 7, so 8 days for me. I also added Dh as an employee 2 days later when I set up my account online and his card came today too. Funny thing is, I had signed up for USPS Informed Delivery and I saw Amex stuff on it today but figured it was the benefits packet everyone said they got first so I wasn't in any hurry to open it. I did not get anything separate. This came with a 12 page Additional Benefits summary, so maybe it just came all at once? I will have to get a magnifying glass to read it! My goodness it is tiny type.

Also, my offers on my card stink. Like I have never heard of any of the places listed. I was excited to get an Amex to get all these offers everyone talks about and there is nothing to use. I could actually use the Lowes one as we have some work needed on the house.

@hsmamato2 - Try searching for the award on the AS (Alaska Air) site and make sure the flight numbers and times are all the same. Then call back. If it shows up as a saver award on AS it is bookable on BA. Make sure the agent you speak to also understands you are giving them an AS flight number and not an AA flight number. It's possible they are getting confused if you tell them you are looking at award availability on AA. Alaska award space will never show up on BA but if it is on AA as a saver award it is bookable with BA. I'd call again. I helped some friends get to Hawaii on AA using Avios and it took 4 phone calls before I got an agent to see the saver space and book it.

Yeah I looked at JFK from DCA, IAD, and RIC (home airport) but they were all more expensive and everything I’ve read made it seem like it’s a longer cab ride into the city from JFK. Also, I don’t know if this is still the case but last year our Delta flight flew in and out of that weird marine terminal at LGA?? It’s kind of an odd location but the TSA wait was basically zero so we got there way earlier than needed. I’ll know better for this year!

I wish southwest was better out of RIC. They used to have a great direct flight to MCO that we used for our honeymoon, but have ended that.

Sounds like we're doing something similar . . . we're flying RIC to LGA in June direct on Delta (round trip). We have cheapo economy tickets, but I don't care since its such a short flight. I paid 10,800 UR points for each one, and I thought that was great!

I stayed at that Sheraton. It was a long time ago so I have no idea about current room conditions but the location was great for a laid-back vacation. Divers would dive off the black rock, there is some decent snorkeling right off the beach there and the resort had a fun atmosphere.

Ok, I need a little input. Trying to slow down my churning but already jonesing for a new card and I got my last one 2 weeks ago.
Here’s what I have
SW Plus 7/16
Marriott 3/17
Disney 7/17
Hyatt 9/17
SPG personal 4/16
Hilton 5/17
SPG Biz 2/18
Discover 12/17
Aviator 9/17
AU on mom’s Amex
Plus another Discover (30yrs old), Chase Freedom, Target Red Card, Sears Citi wTY Points, all >2 yrs

DH has
CFU 10/16
CSP 5/17
SW Plus 7/17
AA Citi Biz 2/17
BOA Premium Rewards 1/18

Obviously I am way over 5/24 and will be for a while. Trying to stick to biz cards for now for me.
DH is 4/24, correct? The Citi Biz doesn’t count? Plan is keeping him there to try for CP with SW cards in November. But can he apply for CIP?
I was thinking Delta Biz for me next month or is that too soon? Amex pulled credit from my personal cards when they approved my SPG Biz last month. Will I get approved for a second Amex Biz? I figured I might be able to use Delta for Vancouver flights in 2019 or worse case turn the SkyPesos into Target GC ala @SouthFayetteFan
We have AA miles, SW miles, URpoints, SPG points and a few TY points. Still accumulating cash back and Disney GCs for cruise.

I thought about this, but it’s just not convenient timing for us. My current plan is to fly out of DCA at 7 am that Saturday which will put us in NYC (or at least LGA) by 9. My mom and I will spend the day shopping and sightseeing and stay that night and then fly out at 7 pm that Sunday, so we’re really able to get a good two full days in. The train would involve us either taking part of the day off Friday and then spend 6 and a half hours on the train to arrive at a decent time, or leave later and arrive at 1:30 am Saturday morning, both of which would require me to pay for another night in NYC. Plus, the train fare is between $80-$100.

I wish it was more convenient as I’m sure my mom would love to take the train! She has even mentioned taking the bus up before since we have cheap bus fares, but if I’m going to take her to NYC at Christmas time I’m going to do it right and make sure we’re comfortable and well rested.

We looked at doing the train too, but surprisingly, it wasn't that much cheaper + it really eats into touring time if you're making just a quick trip. Would it be worth paying a bit more to fly out of RIC? Driving up to DC can be so harrowing.
