Update about UR issues:

I SM’d about 2 issues and after a bit of back and forth and me attaching screen shots they credited me my points.

One was a Nordstrom rack purchase on my CF that didn’t give me the 5x points b/c it posted as a hautelook purchase.

The other was a shop thru chase at loft that I never got points for.

So if you notice something is wrong with your points, message them and stand firm.

Sigh, I should have looked at the day of the week I wanted to fly instead of assuming they had the redeye flight everyday. Alaska only has it on Fridays and Saturdays and I want to fly on Thursday, which means a different airline and not using miles. I'm also bummed that it appears they don't have any saver awards on Saturday unless I leave at the crack of dawn. I was anticipating having to potentially supplement my 30k bonus with some times to get the round trip not have to use it all for a one way return and pay for the out. It doesn't look like booking the out through UR will help either but once I have points I'll look more closely. I wish Delta and Alaska were still partners. This just got way more complicated than I thought it would be. Worst case I'll waste my Friday in the air.

Question...We're looking to do about 5 nights in L.A. I plan to use my IHG points which would cover 3 nights and I would just pay for the other 2. Or can I transfer from Chase to IHG to take care of those 2 nights, right? If so do i do that from the Chase portal? Or how is it done? This would be my first transfer..Lol...

you do it in ultimate rewards portal. go to Use Points --> Transfer to Partners --> IHG.
would check to see if the last 2 nights might be worth booking via chase portal though. your going from $.022 to like $.007

If you go to the UR portal, under Use Points, there is an option to transfer to partners and you’ll find IHG there. I have only used it for Southwest and had to enter some basic information so it would transfer to my RR account.

Thanks. I will compare and go from there. It sounds very easy.

It has been with SW. I was changing our flight home from Punta Cana to a direct flight and was short on points in my account. I quickly went to Chase and transferred them and they were almost there immediately for rep to use. She said your short on points and the next thing she said was oh,no you are not.

Has anyone bought flight delay insurance? I just booked a Christmas Day flight for one of my (adult) kids, using my AmEx Platinum 50% points back benefit for probably the last time. The flight is in the evening of Dec. 25 on American -- I was trying to avoid American because of their pilot issues for Christmas, but it was the only direct evening flight, which is when the kid wants to fly.

AmEx has horrible travel insurance (another reason why it's likely getting cancelled soon) -- just wondering if it would be worth purchasing some kind of insurance in case his flight gets seriously delayed. I've only ever purchased travel insurance when an entire trip (cruise) was at stake, so not sure if this situation would be worth it, but I'm curious if maybe it might be.

Any idea how long the offer will be around? I checked and I have the offer but I have an open Chase slot which I feel like I should take advantage of first.

I’ve seen them disappear in 48 hours and have read data points of 24 hours.

Discover just nerf its card... :\ i dont use it but im sure a lot of ppl do.

I actually just took a survey about credit card benefits and it had you rank your preferences for these things and which would prompt you to apply for a card, etc etc. I got the impression that Discover put it out based on how some of the questions were worded. This was just in the last week or so, so interesting to see survey data possibly acted on so quickly. The stuff they listed was actually low on my list so it's not surprising to see for me, I never ever remember about purchase protection but for those that do remember it I can see that being a bummer. I'm thinking they want to use the money saved from those benefits into making the rewards/sign up stuff more attractive as it seems like more people are focused on that now.

I just signed up for the AmEx platinum and got the 100k offer. I am active duty military so the annual fee is waived, so it seemed like a great card to get. I mostly use a chase united card that I have had for years to earn United miles. I see that the MR points do not transfer to United, but does to some of the star alliance partners. Is there a way to use the MR points combined with United miles on a star alliance partner?

i dont think ur able to combine your UA miles with MR airline partners. might be easier if you transfer to an airline partner that does one way flights, book UA in the other direction...
you could combine them via hotels but the transfer rate is really really bad... ie MR --> SPG(1/3 loss) --> UA(1/2 loss). aka 100,000 MR --> 33,333 SPG --> 16,667 UA miles.

Thanks. That’s what I thought, just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing something.

So glad I hopped on here before heading to Target today! Dh has Discover so I’ll buy the gift cards with that and then use the gift cards this week to make my Christmas gift purchases with my 20% Black Friday coupon.
