I love credit cards so much!

Oh man, the township did not agree with me that my proposed pool/guest house was the greatest idea ever :(. Now I'm sitting here wondering 1) where am I going to live and 2) how I'm going to make the spend for my two SW cards. Plus I really want to take advantage of the United 70k offer sometime before 4/30. I am planning on buying a new car, can you pay the down payment with a cc, not likely right? Oh, my DVC dues are not paid in full!!! That would get me pretty close to the SW spend and I could buy extra Disney GC's for spending in WDW and Aulani. Are BJ's and Sam's club the best deals for using my SW cards? I feel a little better. Hopefully there is not a limit on purchasing or applying the cards.

ooo, i forgot, u can also fund bank accounts with a credit card. i think PNC bank does up to $2000. Consumer Credit Union does $1000. Great way to hit minimums without having to pay a fee.

This is something I haven't been able to wrap my head around. Say I want to "spend" $2000 on my new card. I open a new PNC bank account (hopefully getting a cash bonus in the process), then what? How do you transfer money from your credit card to your bank account? And what happens next? Do I have to keep the $2000 in the bank account for a certain amount of time or can I just pay it back to the credit card when the statement hits?

I don't know how it works if you're financing a card, but my daughter's father and I bought her a car (in cash) and each one of us was allowed to charge $5000.00 toward the purchase. I think it varies by the dealer but it doesn't hurt to ask. He gave us a song and dance but 5,000 is 5,000 (plus they still received two large checks so everyone won!).

set up a billpay to your credit card. All you need is the routing # and account #. Or you can ACH the money back into your account. Would suggest keeping the money in your account for awhile though, or at least keep the minimum for awhile and then close the account after awhile. I know if you do it too quickly, they will stop the payment and reverse your money back onto the credit card. Its a great way to make minimums if u got the money to float around. Also keep in mind some of them do charge as a cash advanced so make sure u set your card's cash advance down to zero.

the consumer credit union, with 1 ACH + 12 debit transactions, u earn a 3% interest rate up to 10k. $25 a month, $300 a year. not bad considered everyone else is less than 1%.

edit: sorry, i was typing this in a hurry. The banks will charge the money transfer as a purchase. When u open a PNC account, at some point, it will ask you how u would like to fund your account, in that case, u say fund with a credit card. Keeping the money in the account, you might have to check the T&C how long u need to keep the account and money for. it will usually tell u.

Last week (on March 28th), I applied for the Ink Preferred Business Card. Got the 30 day message and eventually got a denial letter. It said it was denied for too many credit cards opened in the last two years associated with you.

It said they used Experian, so I pulled up my report and the following inquires are showing:
Chase - 3/31/17 (I applied for CSP and was instantly approved after getting 30 day message from Ink Preferred)
Chase - 3/28/17 - the Ink Preferred I was denied for
Chase - 1/3/17 - When I applied for CSR
Chase - 10/21/16 - When I applied for Ink+ Business
BOA - 1/16/16 - when I applied for Alaska Air
Capital One Auto - 10/21/15 - our car loan
American Eagle - 3/28/15 - I guess for an American Eagle card, but I've had that way longer than since 2015

Anyway, do you think there's any point in calling?

The BOA card has been closed - only got it to get the companion pass for Hawaii. The other Chase cards have very high limits which I would be happy to move around if that would help. But, I don't want to embarrass myself if there's not point in it!

Thanks for any advice.

Very helpful, thank you! I keep reading that people funded their new bank account with their card, but I haven't seen a clear example of how they did it.

I've been following this issue on reddit since it was posted. Pretty much everyone is saying their old links are still showing the 50K offer, but of course, no one knows how long it will last. Folks have also said the new 40K referral links are giving 10K to the referrer instead of the usual 5K. No one knows yet whether or not the old links will still have the 5K, or the updated 10K bonus. Waiting to see more data points posted on all of this.

Thank you! I went ahead and applied to one of the referral links and was accepted! Now to make spend on the SW business, SW plus and Freedom! Yay!
Regarding the Chase Disney Rewards Visa and the $200 gc sign-up bonus, is this something that automatically shows up under your rewards, with the other reward dollars? I met minimum spend before my statement cut and had 2 referrals for the card. The 100 reward dollars for the referrals along with reward dollars for spend are showing as available for redemption, but there is nothing noting the bonus. I wasn't sure if this is something you have to request separately. I'd appreciate any insight you guys might have.
Would you mind sharing details?

I just stumbled upon it reading The Points Guy here: https://thepointsguy.com/2017/04/daily-getaways-preview-2017/

It seems like such a good deal, but I worry about the Terms & Conditions. What if I purchase and they block the dates I was planning? Stresses me out :)

WARNING: LONG!

I need a little advice. We are going to WDW/Universal in March 2018. We just got back from a blowout trip (to us, at least) to WDW/Universal. We assumed we would just do the one trip, get our Disney/Universal fill and then not go again for 4-5 years. Yeah, well...we had an amazing time and can't wait to go back! But my husband is super conservative with money, and would object if we did a huge blowout trip again. So...I would love to use cc miles to pay for as much as possible. We have a family of four and will go for 7 nights - two nights at Universal and 5 nights at Disney.

  • I just completed spend on CSP, so should have 59k+ UR when the points post. My Freedom is coming in the mail, and I plan to use this to max out the categories + purchase Disney Giftcards at grocery stores/drugstores and post to the DVA. I'm all in for travel/cc hacking, so I have no doubt I will accumulate some serious points.
  • My husband should be getting his business SW card (60k RR) in the mail soon and will also apply for the SW Plus (50k RR) after we complete spend on the first.
  • After that, we will get him the Ink Cash. He refuses to put all of his business expenses on a different card other than the American Express Business he has had forever that just gives him cash back FOR THE BUSINESS. I'm not sure how to get him into the mind frame that putting his business expenses on a credit card that benefits his family is better than helping his business' bottom line ;). It's a family business and this is the way he has always done it, so it's hard to get him to think differently. I think if I could give him a card (like the Cash) that he could use for certain things like shipping + phone + internet + office supplies, and keep using his AmEx for fuel and hotel (since his guys are all AU and are used to using the AmEx). He is not one for change though. I will need to get us to WDW/Universal for cheap and then I think he will be a believer.
SO...Here's what i'm working on:

  1. FLIGHTS: We should have the SW Companion pass in the next few months, so flights are paid for (YAY!).
  2. UNIVERSAL HOTEL: We will stay onsite at the Royal Pacific Hotel for the free express pass + early hours to HP World. This hotel is on the Chase Portal at approximately 29k per night. Would love to do two nights, so around 60k in UR. Yikes.
  3. UNIVERSAL TICKETS: These are so expensive! For our family of four (2 adults, 1 child and 1 child who is counted as an adult), tickets are almost $1,500.
  4. DISNEY HOTEL: We love Pop Century. It's so affordable and not too huge. I'm estimating around $800 for five nights. This is for room only. We had the DDP last time, and did a ton of character dining, but my kiddos are such light eaters that I think we could pay out of pocket and come out ahead.
  5. DISNEY TICKETS: Around $1,000 for base tickets.
With flights and Universal hotel paid for with points (although using that many UR points feels really wrong), the tickets are the biggest cost. How can I bring the cost of the tickets down? Am I crazy to use that many UR points for the hotel? I know SW offers Universal tickets to use RR on, but they are like 18k for one day.

I don't want to blow our points, but I also want to use them for something I know we will enjoy. Having these options has opened up my eyes to a world of traveling!

I also read about a deal for a two nights stay at the Royal Pacific Hotel for only $325 for both nights. Typically one night is minimum $369, so this is a great deal that would need to be paid out of pocket.

So, I could use your advise on additional cards to apply for - but it will have to be later in the year as we work on spend for the others. I am hoping the CSR will come back with another 100,000 bonus, so there will be another amazing cc bonus that will benefit our trip.

I'm so scattered. I need focus. And more coffee. Please help.
You and your hubby need to apply for fixed value cards like the Barclay Card Arrival Plus ($500 bonus after spending 3k) and the Capital One Venture card ($400 bonus after spending 3k). If you both get the cards, that's $1800 that can be used to purchase Disney and Universal tickets on undercover tourist (codes as "travel) and then you can "erase" the charges. The Wells Fargo World Propel, another fixed value card (only available to Wells Fargo customers, in branch) could also be useful. The bonus is $400 in travel benefits.

Okay, I STLL don't totally get this. It seems like a super easy way to make spend in a short period of time. Can you please walk me through this step by step? Like you're speaking to a child?

Thanks for the link! I see a few intriguing things there... I had never heard of that.

Me neither! So that makes me ever more nervous. I wish I knew 100% that it would work that way. I'm going to do some digging and have until the 21st to figure it out!

Discover It card...worth it? I just noticed that if I apply through Amazon I'd get $75 after making any Amazon purchase. I'm at 5/24, so I'm not burning a Chase slot.

Funny you ask that, I was just coming here to vent about my new Discover It.

This is probably due to me just being a peculiar fuddy-duddy, but I got so freaked out by Discover, I basically decided I wasn't using the card anymore and was sticking to Chase where everything always works seamlessly.

I got my Discover It card, and activated this quarter's 5% bonus, hoping that Tractor Supply Company would code as "home improvement" (it does). As a sort of test to see whether or not it would code that way, the first purchase I put on my Discover It card was to buy a $25 TSC gift card online. That was March 30th. The purchase showed up immediately as a pending transaction, and because it was pending, the category was listed as "processing" so I still wasn't sure. I took a leap of faith and went shopping with the card at my local TSC, and spent over $200 (two separate trips on the same day because I forgot something and had to go back). This was April 1st. Those transactions went to pending and then went through, and the gift card was still pending.

Yesterday, I check my Discover account in the morning before work, and see that apparently my statement is ready. They have a due date listed (May 1st) and a minimum for me to pay ($35). But what's weird is that my balance includes the in-store transactions from TSC, but the gift card that I purchased online not only isn't showing in my list of transactions, it's gone from my pending transactions too. I try to find my actual statement (pdf) and when I click, all I get is a screen telling me I have no statements in 2017. Then I notice on my account there are "running balances" (described in their little help button as a tally of all current and PAST balances) listed next to my transactions that total over $400! I have used the thing for THREE transactions total since I got it, totaling about $235. And on top of that, I keep getting a pop-up message saying "It looks like you're behind on your payments. Let us help you get back on track." (something like that). I'm like WHAT?

So, I decide to fire off a quick secure message to ask about my concerns, and don't you know I get another message saying they aren't able to accept messages at that time, so to call or use live chat. I tried several times to send the message, just to see if it was a glitch, and it never worked.

By this time, I'm starting to get irritated, but I had to go to work, so I just left it and waited until the end of the day to see what was up. By the time I got home from work, I had notification of my statement being ready, and I was able to download the pdf version of that. And I noticed the weirdness with the "running balance" was all fixed and said $0.00, which was correct. So that was good. But I notice on my statement that there is no trace of my gift card purchase, and there is still no trace of it on my account page either. I know the transaction went through because TSC has already emailed me that it's on its way!

Then I also happen to notice that despite my $209 spend on the card, my cash back earnings are $0.00 (on both the pdf statement and my account page). The heck?

I try to send another secure message and get the same pop-up telling me to "Hold that Thought" because they cannot accept messages at the moment. *sigh*

It's now the 6th of April, and the only trace of my gift card purchase is that my available balance on the card IS $25 shy of my total credit limit, so I know it's going to pop up on my balance and in my list of transactions eventually.

And I read on one of their FAQs, that cash back earnings don't post until the next statement. So the cashback I earned on this billing cycle won't post until my May statement and so forth. Which I guess is fine, but I'm used to Chase where not only can I see what I've already earned in UR, I can also see what's coming on my next statement. And it's always based on the current billing cycle. No waiting.

I don't know. It has left kind of a weird taste in my mouth about Discover. It seems messy.

My parents are currently on a 3 week cruise in Asia/Middle East. Right before the CSR online offer expired, my brother decided to apply for the card on my recommendation. And he in turn convinced my mom to also apply for the card. Right before they left for their cruise, I mentioned the free lounge access. My mom had never activated it, so it was too late for them to use it on their trip. And while she was visiting the weekend before her trip, I helped her book another cruise for 2018. She was about to put it on her Royal Caribbean card until I told her that it had terrible redemption value and that she should be using her CSR. She has no idea how to maximize spending categories and card benefits.

I told her that she needs to sit down and make me a list of all of her credit cards so that I can make up a cheat sheet for her to carry in her wallet that helps her make the best choices while shopping. And I am going to make sure that she is taking advantage of her other benefits too. For example, my parents don't have Global Entry, even though they travel abroad 2-3 times per year and have credit cards that would give them the credit for free. And then my parents put my mom as an AU on the CSR instead of her applying for her own card. I tried to explain to her that the AU fee is more expensive than the CSR AF after the $300 travel credit, but she just didn't seem to grasp why it was so silly. Maybe when I talk to my dad, I can knock some sense into him. But at this point, she would only get 50,000 UR points if she applied for herself, but honestly that is better than nothing.
The Points Guy app will tell you which card to use at each location. You have to enter your (her) cards but it might work if she has a smart phone.

Discover was my first card aalmost 20 yrs ago. Charges normally show up as pending so your gc thing is weird. The cash back has always been that way.

I just got my Hyatt chase card, my first chase, and waited and waited for stuff to not be pending so I could pay the entire balance and I gave up after 3 days and paid it all. I know what I paid so it's ok but a similar annoyance.

It may also be ts and I say this cause my barclay card got ran at ford for car repairs and I signed the receipt. It took over a week before it finally showed up on my account to pay. It will also depend on the store not just the card.

CSR isn't all that simple to grasp. He might be better off with a CSP + Freedom or Freedom Unlimited. Downside with Freedom is that it requires him to activate on a quarterly basis. Of course the downside with CSP + Freedom or Freedom Unlimited is that he may not remember spend categories. It really depends on the person and how much effort they will put into it. Not everyone can maximize points. Heck I try to do it and I still don't maximize my points. The key is to find something that works for that person. E.g. if someone can't do the rotating categories or can't remember to activate, the Freedom Unlimited is probably better for the person than the Freedom, even though based on the person's spending habits, a person may get more points with the Freedom than the Freedom Unlimited.
That's why I thought the Hilton AMEX might work for them 6x points on restaurants, grocery & gas. I'm gonna guess with 6 people they use a lot of groceries &/or restaurants. Me, not so much. I doubt he'd keep up with categories on Freedom. Never met his wife but maybe she is more detail oriented for this kind of thing (not that he's not into details, he's an ICU Doc but different details...)

Whoa, I can see why you don't even want to use it! I don't know if I want to use a hard pull for it, but the free $75 tempted me. I'm so focused on UR that I might forget about trying to max out the Discover categories along with the Freedom ones.

I see so many of you who do this churning thing so well, post that you are at 5/24 with Chase so you are going to open some other XYZ bank card...Doesn't that just delay when you can get more Chase cards? All cards count for Chase, right? So, if you keep opening other cards (Amex, Citi, BoA, etc), when will you be below 5/24 for Chase again?

What am I missing here?
