I love credit cards so much!

Thanks for all the great information in this thread. After reading about it and debating for a couple of weeks, I took the plunge today and applied for the CSR and got immediate approval. Looking forward to getting it and setting out to hit our minimum spend. We've got a trip coming up in January to WDW for the marathon weekend and with a few things still to finish paying we can use the $300 travel credit for this year easily. I think I succeeded in talking my husband into going to DL now in May for the Tinkerbell half marathon weekend using our 100K points and the second $300 travel credit to fund much of it. Probably don't have the time, nerve or stamina to get into travel hacking hard core, but the CSR offer with two trips coming up soon just seemed like a no-brainer. Thanks again for all the insights here!

Really new to this, so will try to keep questions down to a couple per post.

After years of having only a Chase Rapid Rewards card, both DH and I applied for the CSP a few months ago. Was thinking of canceling the RR card since I'm not using it, but I guess I could do a "product change", right?

If I do that, am I eligible for the sign up bonus? For example, if I changed to a CSR could I get the 100k bonus? Or, a Chase Freedom to spend at Costco (is there a UR bonus?)

Most of my spending is Amazon! But I shop at Whole Foods, we do travel several times a year, and we like to eat out especially when we travel. I might pay my DVC dues in January with a card, especially if I get 3X points, or I guess I could buy Disney gift cards to pay them if have the Freedom card?

That might be more than a couple of questions.

you wont be able to product change any co-brand card --> chase card. To confirm this, just send an SM to Chase and see what they say. I recall you cant go from co-product to a chase card. but who knows.
If you product change, you will lose out on any sign up bonus. The only thing u retain is a hard pull. If you change to a CSR, you WILL NOT get the 100k bonus. You can change your CSP(After a year or other solution) to a Chase Freedom or Chase Freedom Unlimited. You can use it at costco for the remainder of the year. Yes, you do earn UR points.
Amazon is a tough one... This year, its usually 4th quarter amazon but it isnt happening atm. the rumor is that it will come back in Nov with 10%. It might not happen, it may happen. Freedom card is probably the best chance on amazon. Currently, the 5x categories are drug stores and department stores. Your best bet is to buy amazon gift cards at these places. YMMV, some drugs stores will not let u buy gc with a credit card. you have to test them out locally. The next card that Earns UR points with Amazon/Whole Foods is the Ink+(5x at office supply stores = lots of gc access). This is a business card though, u may/may not qualify for it.

Last of all, yes, u can buy disney gc and pay with freedom card. Sams club for example has $500 gc @ 5% off, then 5% off with Freedom card.

Just ask away!

That is a link from MMS on how to apply for a business credit card. We shop mostly at Whole Paycheck Foods and we use our Ink+ business card from Chase to buy gift cards to WF from Staples. Office Supply purchases earn 5x/$. So, all of our grocery purchases are paid with the gift cards and we get 5x on groceries.

Thank you, the Ink card is a possibility for me. Do the Ink and Freedom have sign up bonuses? Then we wouldn't want to do the product change anyway.

Just have to decide what to get next. CSR for more travel points? Ink for the Amazon & WF GC points? Freedom for the Disney GC points (In store or online)? I'll probably just ruminate for a while. I think DVC membership dues are Travel on the Sapphire card.

I did blunder into the UR Shopping area a few days ago, and was amazed to see the multiple point deals. Staples was 2X/1$ so I bought a couple of gift cards, waiting to see if that works. Bought a gift card on Sephora for 5X/$1, that should go through right? And some packing cubes I wanted on Ebags for 8X/$1. That area could definitely be trouble.

I wish wineries were considered Travel on a card. We'd clean up!

Yes. The Ink sign up bonus pretty high too.

I'd say the Ink+ is the most valuable for generating points. CSR is a keeper is you spend $3200 or more in dining and travel per year. If not, get it for the sign up bonus and then product change after a year to the CSP. Chase will decline an application if you have opened 5 or more credit cards in the last 24 months. Also, you can only get approved for 2 Chase cards within a 30 day period.

Ebags is one of my favorites!!! I ahve earned tons of miles for luggage and packing cubes.

Applied for Ink card, got the "we need to review further" spiel.

So Gyft.com counts as an Office Supply place? This is hilarious, wine.com is on there and they actually carry some wines we like. Slightly higher prices, but 5X points on Gyft and then 5x points going through UR Shopping. Wow! Does that really work?

I am pretty sure Staples online gift card purchases do not earn 5x nor do they get shopping portal bonuses. You want to buy the gift card at Staples in person and then go through the shopping portal to pay with the gift card. There are other online gift card merchants that will trigger the 5x.

Flyertalk reports it works online as well. (Direct Entry)

Edit: DO NOT call recon. Leave it as be. Call recon if you do get the rejection letter.
Gyft.com counds as an Office Supply place if you go through paypal. I have been using Gyft for many many month with Target gift cards.

Shoppint portal with Chase is very YMMV. I think most of them say gift cards will not qualify. I had once bought 2 iPads going through the portal for both. I got points for one, but did not get points for the other. They claim that they saw it was a "Sale" item so therefore it does not qualify for extra points. i was seriously facepalming...

this wont work either, u have to use a chase credit card to gain the extra shopping portal bonus. I tried this by going through the portal on groupon, used a different credit card. They originally gave me the points but then clawed it back... lol

best is just do the 1.5x on Chase Freedom Unlimited... unfortunately...

I can confirm this too. Happened to me.

We've had it work for us multiple times both with gift cards and with other credit cards. Must have been lucky I guess. We only use the UR shopping portal from time to time. The main shopping portal we use is the AA one. There are multiple avenues towards earning UR points. AA miles have more limited opportunities so that is my main shopping portal. If the UR portal has tightened the reigns then that is good to know. Thanks for sharing!

Really? Does this not include the Disney Visa and Southwest Premier Visa? I think I got approved for both of those within 30 HOURS of each other, LOL. Seriously, I applied for the SW card one day and the Disney card the very next day, I think. Maybe two days apart max.
But I'm guessing they don't count like Freedom, FU, CSR, CSP, and the Ink cards.

Yes, it does. We are saying the same thing. You were approved for 2 Chase cards within a 30 day period. Most of my Chase cards early on were apps done the same day for two cards. Some, have been able to get approved for the Ink+ and 2 other Chase cards within 30 days since the Ink+ is a business card but even that is a YMMV situation.

Oh, I gotcha.
I'm having a lot of brain farts lately. I blame teenagers (I teach high school, LOL).
Makes sense.

 I have the same problem when I don't have sufficient caffeine in my system :surfweb:

Doing some back of the envelope math has led to a question... with the CSR $300 travel credit, does your travel charge have to be $300+? Or say, you charge the deposit on a Disney hotel room, ~$150, does that trigger it?

When are you eligible for the signup bonus again for the same card...I know it is 24 mos but is that from the date you apply and are approved for the card, OR from the date the bonus is awarded?

Also, is there any easy way (if you haven't kept good records :rolleyes1) to see where you are with the 5/24 rule?

Thanks to all!

Bonus awarded.

Credit Karma.

You're welcome.

People have reported that toll tags and Uber have triggered the travel credit so it would seem it does not have to be $300+.
