I love credit cards so much!

The SW CC is a Chase card though and I thought you couldn't do a balance transfer from one Chase to another? Or am I understanding that incorrectly?

You can't normally BT from one Chase account to another. I think you might be able to get around it if you open a business card and transfer from your personal card to that, but I'm not positive.

Im looking at my chase account and there is a section where you can balance transfer between your credit cards... This is a good question to ask Chase directly. Sorry, for the misinformation!

edit: i sent an SM to chase to clarify, ill have an answer for you in a few hours.

I thought that was the case as well, so I was looking at the Discover It or Citi Double Cash cards but I'm undecided between those two. Or there are a couple cards that offer no balance transfer fee and 0% APR for 18-21 months but offer no rewards either. I suppose I could transfer the balance to one of those and then when I pay if off cancel the card and open a different one with better rewards....

It would be great if they allow it, I'm looking forward to hearing what they say! I know I was denied a BT on a couple of occasions two or three of years ago, but maybe there are extenuating circumstances or the rules have changed.

Calypso, are you in the business? You are a font of information.

I still canceled the card. Mostly because I don't know where it is.

Nope, nothing like that. I just did a lot of homework before diving headfirst into this hobby. I wanted to know how it would affect my credit score. The idea of applying for 3 or 4 credit cards every 3 or 4 months and having a much larger open line of credit across the board seemed counter intuitive. I was very surprised to find out that much of what I thought I knew about credit scores was completely incorrect.

Keep in mind BTs never count towards spend for a bonus. I wouldn't risk another hard pull to open up a card for a BT if I could avoid it. I'd check any existing credit cards you may have from a different bank for the BT. I was pretty sure that you couldn't BT a Chase card balance to another Chase card. Curious to see what Albort finds out.

Replied back and the answer is no, must be from another institution. I wonder what the transfer balance page is for lol.

I learn something new today! haha.

The transfer balance page is so you can transfer balances from other bank's credit cards to your Chase credit card card. :-)

Can someone explain something for me?

I am considering the Chase Sapphire Reserve...If I get it in time I have a Vegas trip in a month...A cruise (just me) in January...A WDW trip next year and a family Alaskan cruise in 2018...So I am thinking that it might be worth the annual fee.

I am new to all this 'points' stuff so if someone could help me out with this: Getting 50% more value for travel. I understand the concept of getting 50% more...But HOW? If I have the 100,000 bonus points...In order to get $1500 for that, do I use my credit card, for example, to charge $1500 toward my cruise and then go to the website and ask for a reimbursement to my card for the points? Or do I have to go through the redemption site and purchase a hotel or airfare ticket through there?

I'm a bit confused.

TIA!

You would be going through the Chase travel portal and paying with your 100,000 points. They would be worth 1.5 cents per point towards your travel purchase.

I met my spend on CSR on last thursday. still no 100,000 bonus. i'm so anxious.

Weird. The pending charges for my UR Shopping Portal purchases have disappeared, the ones for Sephora and Staples. They aren't anywhere. E bags went through, but not the extra points yet.

DH ordered a new dishwasher through the portal, from Leows. Wasn't in stock at the store. Hope it gets here soon, of course he is going to drive me crazy wondering where the extra points are.

me again...
applied for the csp in feb 2016 and denied due to 8/24..I am now at 7/24 but will be at 2/24 in January 2017. I have been targeted for the AMEX PRG 50k MR points with 2k spend..also targeted for the Hilton AMEx 75,000 points with 1k spend. Would you jump on these targeted offers or wait until jan 2017 to apply for the CSR? The PRG offer is good until december and the Hilton until NOV.
Keep in mind I have no huge travel plans ahead, no flights in mind either. Thoughts?

Is the CSR a keeper card for you or is it just the bonus you are after? If it is the bonus, there is no guarantee it will be there in January. Right now, I'd sooner go for the Amex Plat biz card which is offering up to 100k MR. It's $15K spend but if you're MSing the spend then it won't matter. From what I understand Amex biz cards won't show up on your personal credit report. I've seen the Amex Hilton offer a higher bonus than that. If you are planning on keeping the CSR long term then I'd suggest waiting. I would have waited the full 11 months without applying for anything, no matter how awesome to get the card, knowing full well the bonus would likely not be 100K when it came time to apply. I was willing to do it because the card was better for me than the CSP as a keeper card. Waiting also would have given me the advantage of adding this card and then being able to product change my CSP for the Freedom Unlimited. Thus, giving me the Chase Quadfecta. Fortunately, I was able to circumvent 5/24 and didn't have to wait. If I were you and you have a Chase bank near you, I'd walk in and see if I was pre-approved for any credit cards. That is one of the 2 known ways to get around 5/24.

For the bolded part:

100,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards Points = $1500 worth of travel if done through Chases Ultimate Rewards website portal.

However, 100,000 UR points can also = 100,000 air miles if you transfer to a qualifying partner. So in some cases those 100,000 miles could be worth $2000+ depending on price of tickets vs points used.

Now for the 50% more "value"..."value" is EXTREMELY subjective. I would get less value using my UR points through Chases portal than I would using them for air miles or even hotel points.

Hope that helps!

Exactly! Id go with whats available to the end user now and maximize any potential points now. Like we both believe, who the heck knows what will be available in points on the CSR in Jan 2017+. Get the points now and start hoarding points for awesome vacations later!!

I don't know if it's a keeper for me..lol. The two cards I mentioned have no annual fees at least for the first year(prg). I do have a branch down the street. Maybe I will go tomorrow. The csr has a hefty annual fee and a higher minimum spend...I wouldn't have to ms with either Amex card since the minimum spends are so low...the bonus on the no fee Hilton is the highest it's ever been..you must be thinking of the surpass which has an annual fee and 100k points.

I'm torn....

So I assume that if I am not preapproved that I should go with the two Amex cards?

you must book through Chase Travel Portal to achieve the 50% more. So a flight from blah to blah cost $500 cash. You can use your points to pay for it, which will cost you 25,000 UR points. if you redeem 25,000 UR points to cash, its $250. hence the 50% more value.

if you wait patiently, theres a targetted 150k MR for Amex Plat Biz.

CSR, apply now... $450 fee - $300(2016) - $300(2017) - $100 (tsa precheck) - $1000(UR pts redemption) = $1250 net earning.
