I love credit cards so much!

Did anyone else receive this offer on their CSR-

As an added benefit this year, Chase invites you to enjoy complimentary Gold Status at Shell through the Fuel Rewards® loyalty program through December 31, 2018.* With Gold Status you'll save at least 5¢ per gallon (up to 20 gallons) on every fill-up at Shell stations this year.

I got the offer for my CFU, signed up. The fine print did not seem to indicate that I need to use that card, getting 5% this quarter from my CF.
Have not tried yet but at the pump the other day (before I got the offer) it looked like I could get the Fuel Rewards discount plus my Stop and Shop grocery points. If I can use both discounts plus the 5% CF that is a pretty sweet deal until the end of March when the CF 5% is over.

Why would you even be thinking about Q2 at this point...Don't you realize that Chase doesn't what you thinking about that yet, LOL!! :rotfl2:

It looks like we can start "activating" on 3/15 so they have to release it soon, right?? :confused3

Well they lost a lot of my spending for q1 cause I've had to put everything on amex. Gonna happen again for q2 if they don't rope me in soon. Hopefully we know very soon! I wish they would do like Discover.

Discover already emailed me to activate. I feel bad for all the CF people waiting.
seems life CF has always been ~ the 15th of the month before it starts. It is nice that you can activate CF until the 15th of the last month of the quarter and still get the bonus back to day 1. My sister forgot to activate one time but remembered before the deadline and got a ton of points for the whole quarter.

I looked this weekend, nothing yet. Hoping it's NOT grocery stores as that is what Discover has next quarter. Would love to have CF and Discover have grocery stores different quarters; twice as many rewards :-)

I'm hoping for restaurants for q2 on freedom. We typically don't eat out much but we have two trips in that quarter plus my dd's graduation with lots family in and out so I know well be eating out a lot.

i bet u 2 UR points, its gonna be grocery stores... :]

That would actually work OK for me too. I'm pretty sure I'll be spending at least $500 on food just for grad party. Then also hosting several family meals. We'll have 25'ish for many of those meals so ca-ching at the grocery store.

I order meeting lunches for my office and am always happy to use my credit card and expense it when I can get 5% cash back :-)

Okay, I have been reading the thread (and trying to figure out Reddit) and reading DoC and I feel like I'm ready to "present" to you guys! Currently have Chase Disney Premier (1/2015), Chase Southwest RR (3/2017), and very old Discover, BoA, Capital One. I use my Disney for grocery and gas and pay it off as I go. I know...but I like the Disney reward money and the discounts that I get while in WDW. I also have Target and various store CC.

Goals and Things to Consider:
*love free flights using SW points
*want rewards to use on US/WDW resorts or on discount park tickets through UT
*wouldn't mind trying the swan/dolphin, so am now wondering if SPG is an option. I'm worried that it's an AMEX card and wonder if that will impact my purchases to get the bonus. I mostly spend on food and gas.
*DS is beginning college in the fall and there's a Starwood owned hotel super close to his school. I plan on traveling (there and to other colleges where he'll be playing lacrosse) throughout late winter/spring of 2019.
* I want a card that I can list DS above as an AU. Again, would AMEX be less useful for him to have at college?
*Not really interested in a business card as of now.

Plans as of now are WDW in May 2019 with just DS. I have SW points for this and Disney rewards and gift cards (from Swagbucks, Shopkicks, Bing, etc), so I'm pretty good for this trip. 2020 will bring an expensive US/WDW trip for 5. I'll have some SW points for that and that's it. Don't have a definite plan for this trip, maybe a split stay between the two, both on property.

I'm not looking to be a fast churner. I wouldn't mind opening up a couple of cards that are useful in the long run (if that's even a thing) in earning me rewards. I'm also not adverse to opening an additional card here and there that are offering great bonuses. BTW, single player mode here. DH thinks this is all crazy!

I definitely want to earn more SW points. I MAY be able to talk DH into getting ONE SW card.

So I was thinking first the CSR for UR? Maybe the Southwest Premier (which is no rush since I don't need SW points until 2020)? But what about the SPG? So many options! I can't wait to hear some recommendations! TIA!

You’ve come to the right place! Reddit and DoC are fantastic resources, but you can read them and lurk in this thread only so much. You need to ask questions and decide which cards work best for your situation. We all want to help!

First, send @SouthFayetteFan or @Albort a PM about getting set up on reddit and join us over in the /r/DISchurners subreddit.

Then, you need to take a look at your credit report to figure out how many credit cards have been reported as opened in the past 24 months. Credit Karma or Chase’s Credit Journey can give you a free, good enough count based on your credit activity. If you’ve read along, you know that store cards may or may not count, and authorized user cards likely count. This will affect your 5/24 status with regards to what and how many cards you can apply for with Chase, and therefore impact your whole strategy. Once we know what cards you have in your wallet, when you opened them, and what your 5/24 count is, we can help you formulate a more definite plan of attack. And because earning these credit card bonuses means meeting minimum spending requirements, usually within three months’ time, it would help if we get an idea of your expenses and whether you have any big bills coming up (e.g., can you plan to pay DS’s college tuition by credit card in the fall?)

@speedyfishy already gave you some solid advice. We generally always recommend you try to start with Chase cards that earn Ultimate Rewards points first because of Chase’s 5/24 rule that bars you from getting many of their cards after you’ve gotten 5 credit cards from any issuer in the past 24 months, so get Chase’s first; and UR points are relatively easy to earn, very easy to understand, and are flexible to use for redemption through Chase’s travel portal or transfer to partner airlines and hotel rewards programs.

It also sounds like you need to save some room for two Southwest cards at some point to get a Companion Pass. It would really help if your DH was onboard with this, but I understand having a reluctant spouse. I think if your husband saw the tangible benefit of credit card rewards, he might be more open to joining in as a second player. The SW CP could be an amazing perk that shows DH, look, free travel!

I know you said you’re not interested in business cards right now, but you should really consider applying for the Amex SPG Business credit card this month. Like I said above, we generally like to recommend applying for Chase cards first because of the 5/24 rule, but the SPG Biz is offering an all time high bonus right now — 35k Starpoints for $7k of spend in 3 months — but this offer ends 3/28/18. And getting approved for the SPG Biz will not count against your 5/24 with Chase. If you’ve followed along with this thread, you know a lot of us highly value Starpoints because of all the airlines you can transfer the points to, its ability to transfer back and forth with Marriott, and extra bonuses for transferring 20k miles or booking 5 reward nights. But because of the Marriott/Starwood merger, Marriott and SPG rewards programs will be combined sometime later this year or next year, and Chase and Amex will be issuing new Marriott card products soon, so no one knows if we’ll see another offer this good for the SPG Biz. You mentioned that there’s a Starwood hotel near DS’s college and you plan to stay at other Starwood properties for DS’s lacrosse games. The SPG Biz would earn you 4x Starpoints on paid stays, and you could use those points toward reward stays when visiting DS or at the Swan/Dolphin.

At some point, you may need to be more open to business cards. If you’ve ever sold anything on eBay, Craigslist, Facebook, Letgo, etc., you’re a business! If you do any side gigs, have an Etsy shop, you’re a business! Business cards from Amex and Chase come with very generous signup bonuses and don’t appear on your personal credit report and therefore don’t count against your 5/24. A side benefit of that is, if you find yourself shifting a lot of spend to your business credit cards, that credit utilization won’t count against you personally (even though you’re still responsible for paying it off) or show up on your personal credit report, so you should see an uptick in your credit score.

As for a card to add DS to as an AU, I’m kind of thinking maybe the Chase Sapphire Preferred (CSP) if you decide to get that card as part of a double dip with the Chase Sapphire Reserve (CSR). @speedyfishy touched on this strategy above, but I think you could probably wait on these two cards until after you’ve gotten and met the minimum spend on the SPG Biz. The reason being, because the SPG Biz won’t add to your 5/24 count, presumably you have enough open slots to get both the CSP and CSR. And if you’ve followed along with this thread, you know that the only way to get both the CSP and CSR together, and earn both of their signup bonuses, is to apply and get approved for both on the same day (double dip) as a way around the One Sapphire rule. The signup bonus recently went up on the CSP to 60k UR points, with a $4k minimum spend in 3 months. A lot of people think there’s hope that the CSR’s signup bonus of 50k UR will also go up in the coming months based on the strength of this product to Chase’s bottom line and how this more premium product has a smaller signup bonus compared to the CSP. Anyway, if you do get the CSP (preferably as part of a double dip with the CSR), you could add DS as an AU for free and earn 5k UR for adding an AU card.

Again, please join us on DISchurners! Take a look at your credit report and let us know how your wallet and accounts history for the past 24 months looks. Let us know what your budget looks like, and we’ll get you set! If you do find any of our advice helpful, we do hope you’ll show some thanks in return by applying through one of our members’ links.

Hope to see more of you in here now that you’ve presented yourself!

So just a warning - most of us here dishing out advice are what you might call "fast churners". We are going to advise multiple cards, convincing your husband to get involved, etc.

If you're really looking to hold to this statement above, I'd basically advise you get a Chase Freedom, Chase Freedom Unlimited and a Chase Sapphire Reserve over the next 6 months and then use them in combination to generate a maximum return in Ultimate Rewards (URs). And then for your "additional card here and there" maybe you hit a SW card every so often to keep the occasional free flights rolling. It's ok to be a "churner-light", just know that we don't often advocate that around here, LOL. :)

I started out as a slow churner with the FU. I was nervous I was going to ruin my credit score or I was doing something illegal. Now my credit score has gone up 20 points since starting and I’m saying I have a “business.” My SO was originally not on board too. After our subsidized trip to Disney he is on board with allowing me to do what I want.

Believe it or not...I too started as a slow churner haha (Many Moons Ago..) :) A couple Disney cards...then a couple years later a companion pass, a Marriott card 9 months later...and then things took off.

I love how welcoming we are to newbies here but I wonder if we overwhelm some too hahaha. "Just get these 12 cards and you'll be all set!!!" LOL!

I can’t seem to find r/DISchurners. Are you allowed to post a link here?

WHAT IS DISchurners??...For those that may be new around here:

You may have heard us mention DISchurners and wonder...what is this group you're all speaking about??

Well, that is our private Reddit group and it's open to ANYBODY who finds us here on the DIS and is interested in the credit card game. We have 108 members strong right now but there's room for one more (hahaha Haunted Mansion humor!!):hmghost:

IF you'd like to join send a PM here on the DIS including your Reddit User Name to @SouthFayetteFan and @Albort and we'll approve you.
Once approved, click this link to access the site: https://www.reddit.com/r/DISchurners/ Here's some other key points about our group:

1) You can see a list of all members (and their DISboards and Reddit names as some are different) here: https://www.reddit.com/r/DISchurners/comments/777y1j/roll_call_the_whos_who_of_dischurners/

2) If you are applying for a new card (especially Chase cards and some AMEX cards) consider using a link to support a fellow DISchurner. EVERYBODY is welcome to post their links as well so please share yours on the appropriate threads. This has been a great way for us to repay each other for all the helpful comments and information shared here! Just look for the OFFICIAL CHASE, OFFICIAL AMEX, and OFFICIAL MISC threads for links. We actually have links for non-credit card things like Plastiq and Ebates too! We recently did a survey of the group and people are definitely using the links and helping other DISchurners so that's so awesome to see!!!

3) @Albort has put together a nice wiki with great info and there a bunch of other posts that have good content as well so look around a bit if you haven't done so yet!

4) We also have a thread where we keep track of our most helpful Disney tips that we share here. The information there is priceless and you'd have to comb through hundreds of pages of comments here to find all of that info! We also have other threads there that have other tips about Plastiq, The Schwab Platinum MR cashout method, etc...

So if you've been on the fence about joining - maybe now is the time :)

how do u fly SW to NAS? i was looking this up for a friend and i couldnt generate a route... :\
SW is weird. They will fly from one place and to the desired destination, but it won’t let you book point A to point B. You just have to find out the best place to connect and book 2 segments. I’d go with your home airport to FLL and then FLL to Nas.
