I love credit cards so much!

Plastiq update....got email wanting to verify my loan for the mortgage payment i was trying to squeak through on my CIP. I assume I should ignore that. Should I try sending another to a differently worded address?

I'm confused. They know you are trying to pay a mortgage? Did you send the $5 payment first or am I confusing who did that? If you had the $5, did that post? And now you are trying a larger payment?

The $5 went pending on my cc right away. I got the email yesterday afternoon asking for copy of the invoice with payment type, amt due, and acct number. It says "your payment is under review." Says will be refunded the $5 payment if don't provide the info.

ETA: I wonder if it is because the mtg is in DHs name and plastique/the cc are in mine. Maybe I should change the account holder name to mine. It still has the account number, so I am sure the bank will figure it out.

OMG! I leave this thread for three hours and I’m four pages behind! This is what happens when a great big offer comes along! To be honest, I was very much looking forward to March because of the prospect of higher bonuses, especially since it seemed about time that the SPG Biz cycled back around to a 35k offer.

Firstly, a big THANK YOU  to @disneymagicgirl for the love and thanks! I really, truly appreciate it and you humble me to think that I shared something that helped you in any way.

And @gottalovepluto makes a good point that DISchurners who haven’t already updated their support posts and links, it might be a good idea to keep the link to the 25k/$5k offer alive in addition to posting a link for the new 35k/$7k offer. I know $7k is a lot to spend in 3 months, so the new 35k offer might not work for everyone and 25k is a better fit. Options are good!

But I think it’s a great deal! SPG points are so hard to earn outside of credit card bonuses and spend, and actually paying to stay at a Starwood or Marriott hotel. But if you have enough of them, you can really stretch their value because for every 20,000 Starpoints transferred to a partner airline in a single transaction, you’ll receive 5,000 extra miles; and when you redeem Starpoints for Free Night awards at SPG hotels, you'll receive your fifth night free. So it really pays off to go for the higher bonus to take advantage of these benefits! Like @SouthFayetteFan said, how else are you going to get an extra 10,000 Starpoints? Hopefully for just a little effort to figure out how to squeeze another $2,000 you would’ve spent anyway into the next 3 months.

When I had DW apply this morning, it was a no brainer even for my normally “no more credit cards” wife. The annual fee is waived for the first year and we’ll cancel one of our SPG Bizes when the AF hits. So that’s $0 cost to us for 35k Starpoints. We’ll probably have to throw some Plastiq onto the card to meet the spend, so there will probably be some fees, but it’s still a great deal!

Think I'm about to pull the trigger on using some of these UR points I've earned. A while back there was some chatter about booking a Disney package (although I just need a room only) using your UR. I searched a little, but y'all correct if I'm wrong before I proceed.
  1. Book the AP Discount through Disney/pay the "down payment"
  2. Contact UR Tours Dept and get the reservation transferred to them (do I need to wait a few days or can you do this immediately).
  3. They take my UR points and we go to Disney :)
Anything I'm missing?
I booked my trip on Tuesday and called UR to move it over on Wednesday. I forwarded my reservation to the CSR and she said she would get the process started and would give me a call.

This 35k for SPG biz kinda throws a curve ball imo. Personal card didnt go up, makes me wonder if Amex is not pushing personal card knowing its gonna go away...

I’m so sorry to read your payment’s been picked for review. I don’t think anything good can come from providing the documents. Any documentation you provide will show that you’re trying to pay a mortgage and the payment will be rejected anyway. And technically, I think Plastiq’s terms of service state you can’t be paying another person’s expenses, even though practically it’s rarely an issue. It’s also in the terms of service that payments to test or probe credit card behavior aren’t allowed, so maybe your small test payment raised some eyebrows, even though again it rarely ever seems to be an issue for all the test payment DPs I’ve seen.

If I were in your position, I think I would let Plastiq cancel the $5 payment. Delete that recipient. Make some other legitimate payments with Plastiq (to see if they go through without review to see if your entire account has been flagged; not just the $5 payment), then try again for Heritage with different wording for the recipient and/or address, and maybe just go for the full payment. I’m sure this board can bounce around some ideas with you. You may also want to see about adding your name to the mortgage account (not changing it). But I wonder if it’ll just complicate things with your mortgage. Can you just list the account number in the memo line? It shouldn’t matter who is paying the mortgage or who the account holder on the mortgage is, as long it’s applying to the right account. I don’t even think the Plastiq checks have the actual sender’s name on them.

Were you able to reach Melissa? She's been great to work with so far, I need to reach out to her in a month and a half and make the final payment, almost there in points to pay off the whole 11day+dining package. :cool1:

I'm not sure about the name thing. Our mortgage has me listed first on our account, but I've used dh's CIP to pay the bill through plastiq. I don't think that's it.

Do you have a MC or Discover card? I think mortgages are allowed on those. I wonder if you paid a small amount with one of those first, it would get the address into their system to where it would just allow it next time. That may not be valid thinking at all but just thinking out loud. I'll keep thinking. I've never been asked for anything from them.

ETA: I do agree with @Lain that the very small $5 could have triggered something also. My test payments were always $100'ish.

Well that stinks. I'm thinking like @Lain and @wendow that it might have been flagged because of the $5 payment. I wouldn't send any documents.

I thought you could only pay with points when you first transferred the package to Chase?
ETA: this appears to be for transferred reservations, idk about reservations initiated with Chase

I kind of like this idea, but some thoughts...

Plastiq payments are all about first establishing a relationship with the recipient. If your bank is in the system but blacklisted for mortgage payments with Visa and Amex, it’s no good to you. Since you then have to be creative with addressing your recipient, the way you word your recipient name will probably not be in the system and could open them up for review. But once a recipient is in the system, I don’t think Plastiq will bother you again.

If you have a MasterCard or Discover card to put a payment through to establish the relationship, it might get your recipient into the system for future payments with Visa. If you do this I’m just thinking that you may still want to creatively word your recipient name and/or address so that when you switch over to Visa payments, it doesn’t run up against any blacklists. I’d also be wary that if you get asked for documentation on a MasterCard or Discover payment, and you submit the mortgage bill which you can pay with MCs or Discover, then Plastiq will see it’s for a mortgage and add your “recipient” to the blacklist, then it won’t work when you switch over to Visa.

I think that may be true for any reservation, I have not made any payment after it was in the hands of Chase. I made the $200 package deposit with Disney directly then once I moved it she said I have until the final payment date to make a payment so I could wait until I had all the points since I was just shy $100 or so and make the payment then.

Ok, Thanks to you both. I was sending it so late that I wanted to do the small payment to make sure it worked and a full payment next month. I think I will let this one get cancelled and delete heritage as is. I will send something else through plastiq this month to see what happens there. Then I will try and send a full mortgage payment for April with a little more time to spare in a few weeks. I'm not giving up yet!

All good points. Thank you! Let me look through my wallet and see if I have a master card. I know we don't have a discover.

I can't remember all your data points on this... did you book far in advance and later have a discount applied through Disney? I'm planning to book my 2019 vacation at least 9-10 months in advance but want to get a room discount applied later if possible. I'm wondering how I can get this to work paying with UR points...

Anything I'm missing?

I was about to book when I realized since I was doing a room only, I'd have to pay first nights cost (instead of just the $200 when booking a package). We were going to splurge and do a CL room for a few nights, so it didn't make sense for me to put down $600...but my ap rates were about $50 cheaper/nt than what was on the UR Portal. Figured I'd call chase directly and give it a shot. The rep I got was able to get it sorted out with her supervisor and a Disney rep on the phone. So they will let me book at the PH rate and pay thru UR points. I'm hold now in the final stages of wrapping it up. It has taken a while, but it looks like it will all work out. Yay!
