That was me! I'm so glad it worked out for you. I had DM sign up around the same time and she hasn't mentioned getting an email. Now I'm worried that she forgot all about signing up for the programs, got an email, and swore at it while marking it as spam and deleting it. :)

This happened to me as i think i accidentally deleted it. Only hearing my husband mention it on Sunday made
me go look for it. Couldn't find it. Put me in a bad mood thinking i just lost out of 10k points.

I bought Virgin airline tickets a year ago that we can't use. I bought the plans change pass (thank goodness) which
gives unlimited changes. Well I called Sunday night to say we can't use our tickets and to book something for
December 2018. The rep said you don't have to do that we are converting over to Alaska and i can refund your tickets
minus the 25 change fee each. She then mentioned i needed to convert my Virgin points to Alaska and transferred me.
The rep converted my existing points AND gave me the 10k alaska miles when i said I couldn't find the email. I was
dumbfounded! That was $1200 and 10k points i was not expecting.

So call call call call! It won't hurt and you or family members may still get it.

considering the JB 60k offer.... thought maybe use it when I run short on SWA points (I have the CP thru the next year still) what do you think?I'm low on those points, so is it worth an app at the moment? Or should I hold a 'space' for another Barclay general travel card, since I have the SWA thing down pat right now? I'm leaning towards general travel credits right now since a cruise is a possibility- I want those 60k points, just not sure if I need them! edited to add..... I see that I waited too long and it was supposed to go thru 12/31- but when I googled the offer it pulled right up for the 60k....what do you think? old link and it won't work?

I just got this and im positive i did it Monday morning right after new years. Maybe 1 or 2 am (we just got back home).
I took a screen shot in case they balked on the offer but i got an email stating it was for 60k offer so try it.

its usually advisable that you dont cancel any cards. When you do cancel your card, your total utilization goes down and this will hurt your credit score temporary. cancel your SW Plus after you apply may be the best idea. As for your checking account, if you can afford the amount in it, i would just keep it around while applying for chase cards... i believe your relations with chase can help you get cards. this is unproven though. If you hit a 30 days, call and find out why, if its a too much credit, you can ask chase to move your SW Plus credit limit over to the new card, then cancel SW plus card. if i recall correctly, you just need to be 0/30 for business card, u can apply for 2 personal cards at once. depending on what your position is (5/24? 4/24? etc), you could maximize your chase apps and apply for 2 cards. As for 50k, yes it looks like its referrals only, but i did see a Plus public link. But many people here have referrals link for SW card. If you have access to our reddit page, you can find the referrals there. it would help someone out here with gaining more SW points!

Chase closing accounts seems to be triggered by 2 events. you are waaaay over the 5/24 limit and you apply for a non 5/24 card... or... you hit chase really hard within 1-2 years.(ie hitting 5/24 status quickly)
as for business expense, i dont think chase checks. you should be fine.

What is this about chase shutdowns?? This makes me really nervous as i have opened 6 cards in about
8 months. Prior to 2015 I was just using AMEX. Started reading this wonderful thread with all you
knowledgeable people and jumped on board. I hope i don't get shut down.

Good luck! A good first step would be to read the wiki on r/DISchurners as well as some of the information on r/churning.

If you have a clean credit report right now (meaning you only have been approved for 1 or 2 cards in the last 24 months) you have sooooo many options at your disposal. This a great place to be at, but you want to be careful not to make any mis-steps that cost you the opportunity to get a larger bonus later. Start to formulate a plan and then run things past the great folks here and we'll give you some feedback. Also - sometimes the feedback may be contradictory - we all can see things differently here, it's obviously up to you to make the best decision for you, your family, and your travel goals!

I only have 2 in the last 24+ months. In prep for our first Disney trip this past November, we signed up for the Chase Disney Visa to get the $250 Rewards card, and then we signed up for The AmEx Delta SkyMiles card to get $100 off tickets and one free bag check. I believe this carries a $95 AF that is upcoming in February. Obviously, these moves was before taking all of the above into consideration, but that first Disney trip was enough to make us all want to go back...again and again! :)

This thread on Reddit is supposed to detail these stories: https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/7jb8mp/shutdown_reports_megathread/
However there are only maybe 8-10 top level comments and some aren't even Chase related. The general gist of things is people are being shutdown for either going too fast with Chase OR they open a non-5/24 card with Chase after having a ton of new accounts at OTHER banks.

You may be in risky territory on going too fast with Chase. What are your 6 approved cards and the approx. application dates?

EDIT: also do you plan to apply for any more Chase cards??

From what I have read, it seems that a Chase shutdown happens when an application causes a Chase person to notice how many cards have recently been applied for. The shutdown seems to happen very soon after the application, so my guess is that if it's been a while since your last Chase application and you haven't been shutdown, you should be okay. But the shutdowns do raise the possibility that applying for another card could cause Chase to do whatever review it does and decide that a shutdown is appropriate.

So you're at a great starting spot - 2/24 as we'd call it. If you find some Chase cards that work well for you I'd focus on those first due to the big bad 5/24 rule.

Also you refer to "we" in your comment. Keep in mind that there is no "we" in this game - but there is a me and a you. MEANING - if you have a Spouse you can both get cards and double the earnings. General advice is DO NOT do Authorized User (AU) cards for the other spouse as those make it on to the credit report and can cause issues getting more new cards. If you need a second card continue ordering an AU card under your MiddleName LastName or using a nickname to avoid the credit report issue.

Keep reading and asking questions, I am absolutely not kidding when I say with a year before your trip and starting where you're at...you should be able to get hotel and flights absolutely free for your trip for your whole family (I'm assuming a family of 4ish - now if you have like 10 kids that's a diff story, LOL!)

any Barclay Card are true chip and pin.
would also suggest a debit card on those so you dont need to get a hard pull.

Really? I have the aviator but I thought the arrival was the only one that worked with a pin rather than a signature like most chipped cards we have.

Thank you for responding. I opened a chase hyatt in May ..the same day applied and got Hawaiian air and Alaska.
Nov got discover it and Amex blue. Couple days ago got the Jet blue Plus.

As far as chase cards before the hyatt in sept 2016 got the reserve and 2015 got the sapphire. Have had the freedom
for a few years. Im just confused if Chase is randomly looking at people and shutting down or APPLYing to chase
triggers to it. I don't plan on getting anything else in 2018. Do you think i will be ok?

Ok so yeah you're probably fine. Basically the shutdown scenarios look like one of these:

1) Somebody opened say 5 chase cards a year ago...CSP, SW Plus, Freedom, Marriott, SW Premier... then they move on to AMEX and Citi and get 8 more cards. Now they come back to Chase and try to get the Hyatt (which is not under 5/24) and Chase sees all this crazy stuff on the credit report and shuts them down

2) Somebody opens 4-5+ Chase cards in a very short time...6 months (some may say a year...) and it looks suspicious vs. their prior activity.

Your minimal risk would be if you say went back to Chase and got the IHG card now (which isn't under 5/24) and perhaps they thought you looked too risky. If you have other chase cards with high credit limits (other than the Hyatt) maybe that puts some additional risk in there for you.

Couple odd questions:

1. If you have the CIP, can you get the CIC? tWife has the CIP but would be better with the CIC, but isn't at one year yet to PC it.

I’m seeing more and more DPs of people successfully getting more than one Chase business card. However, I would suggest giving your wife some space between the two business card applications, perhaps 6 months time, because I’ve also seen DPs about Chase denying for too many recent inquiries (refusing to reallocate credit, wanting to see how you do with the existing cards for now), and these shutdown stories would suggest caution by slowing your roll with Chase.

5. What are the requirements for tWife to transfer any of her UR points to me? Does she need to have a Sapphire card or just any Chase card?

You just need to be in the same household. I transfer DH's Freedom and CIP to my CSR every month when they are earned. It's simple, you combine the points and indicate the credit card number that you would like them moved to. For some reason, my CIP will not transfer directly to my CSR (I receive an error.) I either move them to one of DH's cards and then combine from there or SM Chase and ask them to move them for me.

What @Alexle2007 posted. But I’d add the reason why she’s getting an error when trying to transfer her CIP UR points to her CSR (which is apparently quite common), is because her CSR is already set up to receive UR points from cards on her husband’s account.

I’ve read that a your Chase UR account can only accept UR points transfers from one account in your household. If @Alexle2007 set up her CIP as a separate Chase account (as many people do with Chase’s business cards), then she cannot transfer her CIP UR points to her CSR if her husband is already set up to transfer points to that CSR. As @Alexle2007 is already doing, the way around this is to transfer the CIP UR points to her husband’s account, then transfer the points from her husband’s account to her CSR. Or contact Chase to ask they make the transfer directly for you.

Is that what a "churner" is? I see the reddit thread and no a disboard churner thread. I didn't join as i thought
a churner was someone who opened cards...used them...closed...then after a time opened them again?

I just like to open and get bonuses and use a couple years and maybe then close. I have never reopened
them again. Am i a churner?

Does she mind if you call "as her'? My mother n law is like that ...she gets confused and can't remember the things to ask so she tells
me to do it for her.

So the term "churner" and "churning" have morphed a little lately. Back many moons ago when there were no rules, people would apply for cards, earn the signup, cancel them and apply again. It was like the wild west...there was a time when there were virtually no rules, then slowly these rules have crept up. AMEX once in a lifetime, Chase 24 months, Citi 24 months, Chase 5/24, etc. etc. etc. sooooo now "Churning" is basically defined as opening multiple cards for signup bonuses.

That said - the word "churn" itself still implies turning over the same card. i.e. I've churned the Chase Disney 3 times since I've cancelled and reapplied. You'll likely be shamed (lol) if you say something like I'm gonna churn a CSP and then churn a SW card and then just churn my way to a free vacation when you're basically just "signing up" for each of those cards.

Hope that clarifies a bit...

To add one thought - if you are opening more cards than the average person then you're likely a "churner" for purposes of the DISchurners group. We're basically just a bunch of folks who enjoy signing up for new CCs. I'd say anybody who opens more than 3 cards a year consistently should embrace their identity as a churner, lol. From your comment I think you opened 6 cards in 8 months...you're definitely a churner ;) deny it all you want haha!

Really? I have the aviator but I thought the arrival was the only one that worked with a pin rather than a signature like most chipped cards we have.

it should be, i only have a salle mae Barclay card which is now a commerce card, even that card is a true chip and pin. theres a 3% fee on foreign transaction but i carry this card simply for a backup.

it sounds like your fine... like what @SouthFayetteFan said, its either u hit chase really hard or you hit everyone really hard and come back to chase. your 6 card application are mixed so you should be good.

Churning is the practice of signing up for credit cards that offer large signup bonuses in the form of miles, points, or straight cash back for the purpose of obtaining the bonus before cancelling the card. Churning has broadly come to mean simply maximizing credit card and travel rewards.

this is the reddit definition. the term is pretty broad. we are all churners in a certain way. I do however classify it based on the number of cards you hit and if you MS... i consider myself a light churner, i dont hit cards a lot, i do however maximize my credit rewards by using the correct cards.

Ugh! That moment you realize your SIL has applied for 4 Chase SW cards without having any idea what she's doing.

SIL texted me yesterday letting me know she went ahead and submitted applications for her for the SW Plus and BIL for the SW Premier so they can get the points to book their flights for our March Disney trip. We had discussed this briefly before, but the convo was tabled as she didn't really express much interest in knowing how it all works. I knew I should have explained in more detail even if she didn't show that much interest. Maybe it would have kept her from applying so quickly without knowing enough info. 1st mistake

I was busy when she sent me this text, so I replied with a quick message telling her she should have done them both for her or both for BIL and that I'd explain more as soon as I was free. We were getting together at MIL house yesterday for lunch, so I hoped she'd put on the brakes and wait for me to talk to her over there. 2nd mistake.

She went ahead and applied for the second card for both of them without waiting for me to explain and offer any referral links. Her response later, "Sorry, guess I jumped the gun on that." When I asked her about setting up their RR accounts, she said "Oh won't they take care of all that when the cards come in." I really want to bang my head against the wall right now thinking of all the missed opportunities here......missed referrals.....but even more so, missed points for them to get closer to CP. Two CP would really benefit them as they are a family of 4. She applied for all 4 cards under the 40K offers. Wondering if she might be able to SM Chase to get more.

Just had to get that out where someone would understand. LOL.

My blood pressure is rising just reading that...WOW.......

So many fails...They will end up with 164k points and nobody gets a referral.

VS

Somebody could have got 20k referring them to the first 2 cards...then they could've earned 104k, then referred the other spouse themselves, get 20k more (hello CP!) and then earn another 104k. Essentially they lost $1,000 in flights and their path to CP is much harder now.

Hopefully they can at least get the match to 50k on all 4 of those cards, that will take away some of the sting...I am in pain typing this haha.
