Apparently the new referrals related issue that r/churning has to attack is the "referrals in profile" flair. My goodness there's a bunch of snowflakes running around there. They have this vote going on and there's a bunch of people campaigning for the vote to ban them (including a new mod which I find a little odd...shouldn't they allow an impartial vote to occur). I think the real issue is that people that don't get referrals think it's unfair that others do...so they are attempting to eliminate referrals altogether so nobody gets them. I'm very VERY close to ceasing all activity on r/churning. I've only made 12 comments there in the past month (and I made 272 comments in the 2 months prior to that). That place just continues to grow more toxic and it's just too big for it's own good now.

NO worries though, I'll still comment here AND I'll still read there for the 2 comments a week that mean something (but @Lain will probably beat me to those comments anyways :P).

Also @Lain - dust off that "ReferralsInProfile" reddit name...might become pretty useful!

Someone else has ReferralsInProfile. :sad1: I have Click_For_Referrals, and a few others, but it’s purely for parody at this point because I don’t have any referrals up using that handle.

I've reached a milestone in r/churning - first negative karma post!!

For a group of people that can be so funny at times, there's a bunch that can't suss out sarcasm. I made what I thought was an obvious tongue and cheek response to a poster about a churning poll result, in agreement with him or her, but thought it was so obvious I didn't even think identify it as sarcasm. Like it really never occurred to me you could take it seriously. Not only did someone respond to me as if I was serious, people have since still downvoted me into a -1. Either I'm not funny or whether or not a broken search tool remains in the sidebar (or is reinstated as it's seemingly non-existent right now) is NOT a laughing matter. :confused3

I guess I found at least 2 of the 17% of respondents that think it should remain linked in the sidebar (and instead of explaining their rational to enlighten us, decided a downvote was enough!). Just when you think you have the crowd figured out, it turns on you

Dollars to donuts the next community vote will include banning any mention of referrals in your username- sheesh!! I couldn't figure out what the deal was with the banning of referral mentions in flairs until you pointed out the jealousy aspect. Guess I'm just not cynical enough!

What I find the most hysterical is that mod had the "referrals in profile" flair just this morning. I thought it ironic as he was discussing it earlier. Then it changed to something completed different, something with 'churn' in it, then this afternoon he changed it to the campaign. I've done a few double takes today on him cuz just like the avatar changes here, I was thinking it was someone else. Don't know what to make of that, maybe it was a 'when in rome/if you can't beat 'em, join 'em' idea before. But it's all crazy. I may go back to lurking for a while unless I see something totally egregious in the Question or Bank threads and can't shut up :) I keep waiting for the dust to settle and then someone kicks up another dust storm.

I can guarantee you that > 60% of people have never gotten a referral there. All it takes is those 60% to decide, hey this isn't fair...and it seems like that 60% has been given a voice.

There will be no jokes or sarcasm...that's also coming on the next vote. Sarcasm will be an instant ban...no worse...you will have to actively read and comment on 100 TPG articles before you're allowed back in.

If they remove all chances for referrals though I could just use it as an outlet for pent up anger and sarcasm. That could be fun, right?

Hm...doubt it would be my area...unless it was all my purchasing that caused this. Time will tell and glad its only temp.

LOL yep, they're on to you, just made it regional so you don't catch on. I saw somewhere, probably in the comments, some talk of NY. So in that more northwardly area but who know how far it'll reach. I'm not even sure I have S&S down here, it's all Giants by me and Martin's in other parts of the state. Until they started updating products with that logo I never knew S&S was part of the same family. So not sure if it'll move company wide or just a bad region. Hopefully you'll stay unaffected. :)

Quoting myself and asking again since it has to be done today, but I'm worried if there is a downside/risk to this.
I don’t think so honestly. Seems perfectly safe as what could they do with just your number...

:lmao:OMGosh that made me LOL... hubby had to ask if I was ok :) It's funny and sad at the same time cuz it's nearly true.

I really liked Andy before he became a mod...but he's been a train wreck IMO since they tabbed him to the mod duties.

Oh totally fun. Just don't get as cynical as that PointsMiles/Pizzy guy. (sometimes he's funny but most times he seems like a, well, a donkey, to keep it Disney :p)
Andy is almost like 2 people, some times he seems totally normal and basically what you saw before and then other times I wonder who let the crazy out. And it's not just when he's being a mod, just some really odd answers or actions sometimes. Maybe because he is a mod now he's one of the names I notice more and he was always like that and I just didn't know it... it's not like I paid terribly close attention before. But it's kinda all over the place and like a train wreck you just can't look away :)

Somebody actually suggested that the reason the sub isn’t what it used to be is because of “referrals in flair”...

Ummmm no - the issue is at ~150k subscribers we are no longer a small community. Oh my LOL

I am bored sitting in the sidelines. We just got back from our Disney trip that I paid for most with Chase cards. I am pretty maxed out with Chase.
I’d like to dip my toe in with Amex to hopefully get some good offers everyone gets. The only Amex I have is the spg business. Any recommendations for a beginner? I’d prefer no annual fee or low since I’m not saving for a particular reason.

I like the Blue Business Preferred that has a $0 AF and gets 2x MR everywhere.

I also have the Amex Everyday Preferred that gets 3X at grocery stores for the first $6K and 2x on gas. When you hit 30 transactions in a month, then you get 50% extra points (i.e. 4.5x on groceries and 3x on gas). It has a $95 fee. I have 3 AU on this card and we get lots of AmEx offers - more than pays for the card.

To anyone interested in redeeming Hilton Points on Amex at the .5cpp it was super easy. I clicked through on DoC and linked my hilton account by logging in to Hilton. Points were immediately available for use. I got the order confirmation email before I got the How To Redeem HH on Amazon email :D

I agree - hotels is the more important piece of this puzzle.

The loss of hotels was really so unfortunate. Tickets coming back (or perhaps they were never gone but we weren't sure how to find them) is nice and all, but not a game changer and in many instances barely worth it as currently setup requiring the flex option. Plus, there's many options and tricks to save on tickets.

Of course, everybody's travel preferences are different but I know many people were using URs to secure deluxe accommodations. For those chasing the high end Disney properties, the hotel component of the trip is much larger than the ticket portion with 60-75% of the package cost being the hotel (excluding dining costs that is). I hope Disney hotels make a return to the portal, it seems logical that they should at some point...but it didn't seem logical for them to go away in the first place, so who knows. I do keep searching for them regularly in hopes that something will change!

I am finding much of the Expedia powered engines to be severely lacking in hotel availability for our trip. The Chase portal only had 11 options. 11!!! Orbitz had about 30 but included Disney. No SPG/Marriott hotels are coming up on either or Expedia. Hotels .com had SOOOOOO much more, but that's an Expedia company that clearly has their act together. It's just annoying at this point.

I had no problem with options before the changeover and now it's such a mess!

We were going to use points for tickets for this trip since I could *ahem* tell DH that this would have been a "free" trip on points. It still is pretty much free in that we are not pulling any money from our travel fund or anywhere else to pay for it, but I had to dip into my Disney GC stash. Not something I was planning on or wanting to do.

Is the poster legit?

Any downside to this? Other than the 90 days?

I would love to be upgraded in May, but that's too far away.

looks legit, a ton of ppl saying it's legit now.
if i have any plans for the holiday season, having that status might help.
status match to other programs could help to if u need status elsewhere. i.e. Total Rewards( some cool benefits there)

Like seriously, it's maybe 10% of replies that I think are bad made by people just wanting to belong or fishing for karma. People answer questions in the DQ thread within minutes with guesses, those are either over eager or fishing. But I think people answer dopey questions because they're genuinely trying to point someone in the right direction. And regardless of banning any mention of referrals - take it out of the flair, user names, the sidebar, ban on the actual word - people are still going to do it. A new generation of mid level churners will take over guiding newbies while the elite hang back after paying their dues. It's kinda crazy to think otherwise.

But thank you for coming to my rescue. :D And I'm loving the new flair.

Gave you a fake internet point, and if everyone else can get their head out of their donkey I'm sure you'll get plenty more, cuz that's just funny right there :)

Thanks for the link. We are still debating here. Nothing planned for early 2019, so it's probably not worth the risk. But the discussion continues.
