Here was the update from yesterday :

S: Indian River County red tide update for October 25.
Indian River County is still experiencing red tide conditions. All beaches in Indian River County will remain closed until further notice. Additional information, including maps of projected 3-day clean-up zones, will be available shortly by clicking on this link: http://calendar.ircgov.com/alerts/

Regardless of the red tide, I hope you have an awesome trip!

We had red tide issues last week in destin. It varied a lot day to day and even morning to afternoon. Most days it was annoying but tolerable. Our last full day was so awful even the kids were complaining so we went to the pool where it was better but didn’t completely alleviate the respiratory irritation.
I hope it clears out for you!

I think we've decided on Spring Break 2020 for our Disneyland trip. I'm thinking of adding a ski/snow portion also, maybe in Park City - but not sure if that's a good idea (I have no clue about snow vacations and if there will even be snow in March!). By then, I could cover the whole trip (minus the park tickets/spending in DL) with URs/MRs, and if by then Chase is still on it's Disney ban, I would work on getting discounted GCs for that portion.

Our 15th wedding anniversary is 2 months after that, so hopefully we'll have some URs/MRs left over for a trip to the BVIs

We flew into ONT for spring break last year and did Big Bear skiing and then on to Palm Springs. We stayed at a homewood suites right at the base
Of the mountain (San Bernardino). You could stay up the mountain if you like but not sure there were chain hotels up there.
It was a nice combo of ski and warm for a spring trip.

I upset reddit with my post. Sorry not sorry :confused3

Obviously this post meant I was just illegally applying for cards in peoples names.

I just keep my Karma up with the occasional one-off post about DH, or something in the TR thread. Guess I misjudged this one.

Don’t sweat it. My dh doesn’t even know he has half his cards. At least you tell him.

. In July I upgraded my Chase Freedom to CSR (it was originally CSR then I downgraded to Freedom). I got my $300 Travel Credit right away but from what I understand the AF will be billed at the original date. That would be November. So, would I get another Travel Credit then after the fee is paid or not until after July now?
If you go to your UR page, there will be a circle with the travel credit info. It says when your next credit will be.

On the Alamo and skip the counter - I did my Alamo through the UR portal on points. I logged in yesterday and had the option to Check in online. I thought that meant skip the counter - nope. Directions said go to Counter. They said you can not skip the counter unless you book directly through the Alamo website. And @SouthFayetteFan you definitely have to have the driver and the credit card the same name. Though it sounded like if you paid with URs, it didn't matter what card you showed them, just any card in your name. I listened to the people check in next to us and they had this issue. The husband had no credit card (say what?? lol) and the wife did but didn't want to drive. They said they would have to pay $15/day extra driver fee. Then the agent said since this is prepaid if you have a debit card in husbands name that will be fine. Good thing for them, it sounded like they were having the car for several weeks.

I told my DH we needed to apply for SW on one of our 3 flights this week. As soon as we took off he was on the app looking at the options. lol We had choice of 50,000 points for the $69 card or the $149 card. We went for the $149 card and got instant approval.

We’re you doing online checkin using an Alamo confirmation number? I always book Alamo through Costco and always skip the counter. I use the Alamo confirmation that Costco gives me. You definitely can skip the counter when booking with 3rd parties.
We were in the Ft Lauderdale airport Weds and they were offering 50,000 SW points for opening a card at the airport. I didn’t check which one it was.

This might be a silly question, but I thought you all would be good ones to ask and just double check. I transferred a balance from my Chase Freedom to a Discover It card last year. I'm now looking to transfer my remaining balance to another card before my Discover intro offer is up and interest kicks in. Can I transfer the balance to a Chase Slate? So BT from Chase to Discover back to Chase? I know Chase doesn't allow one a BT from a Chase to Chase card, but would this work?

Two Questions:

1. I have 49 Elite Points (or whatever it is called) with Marriott. So, need 1 more night for Platinum. My SPG Card is set to renew in December. Do I get more nights when I renew or is that only a 1 time thing when approved for the card.
2. In July I upgraded my Chase Freedom to CSR (it was originally CSR then I downgraded to Freedom). I got my $300 Travel Credit right away but from what I understand the AF will be billed at the original date. That would be November. For #1, you're looking at Elite nights. With Marriott you get the 15 nights on your anniversary but I'm new to the SPG side - I don't know if they come on your anniversary or if they go by calendar year and everyone gets them loaded at the same time (the T&C I looked up was not specific). If you go to the Activity page of your account you can get a breakdown of where all the nights came from -
Screenshot (627).png

Your nights from the credit card(s) will be listed separate so you can count up how many you have so far. SPG gives you 5 nights per card, so if you have both a personal and biz version you would have 10 nights.

Edit: I'm leaning toward calendar year as I remember a lot of chatter when people's nights posted. Although, thinking again, the way the group picks up cards en mass it could have just been everyone's anniversary hitting at once!

from 2017--> 2018, my 5 night from SPG came around Jan 2018, not during my card anniversary. So @LynnTH i dont think u will get points this year. Next year, only 15 nights for having at least one card.

It should, I've not heard of them looking into the history of the balance. It's mostly that it doesn't make business sense for them to let you transfer a balance from one of their products to another product with a lower rate. In your case Chase was already paid in full for your balance so the liability was satisfied without any additional risk for them. So it should be new to them again.

That's from everything I know of the logic behind it, I've not actually done it myself. I've only ever done a one way transfer myself so never looked into trying to send it back to the same company. I think if you read the terms of the offer it should be straight forward on if it'll work the way you want.

Thinking back on it I was leaning that way, I think this confirms it, thanks!

Mine too...His new CSP arrived yesterday....he just handed back the CIC and put it in his wallet....I can’t get him to use more than one card at a time though

I'm kind of like that. When I had no spend, for about 5 minutes this year, changing cards was a small challenge for me to remember. There were in my wallet, but I'm so used to just pulling one particular card, I often pay without thinking. Using the freedom card, no prob, because I just go get a $500 gift card and done. Then back to Amex.

Back to thinking about the Pink Gold card. Amex has the 50K offer on my SPG account, spend 2K get 50K MRs.

I'm almost finished my 3K bonus on my SPG card.

Don't want to apply until after my Disney trip. But debating if I really want it or whether I'm just having FOMO over a pink card. Of course the first year is a no brainer.

And, on top of that, SPG is hoping I'll put some serious spend on my card by sending me a letter reducing the interest rate to 6.99. I have 3 SPG cards and they haven't figured out I don't pay interest? They also were giving me the opportunity to run a balance on the Pink charge card for anything over $100.

I'm also surprised you were allowed to upgrade your award using cash... thats an option? How did you search for/find it? We have basically no further time... I'm on sabbatical but my husband is using every last ounce of his time off to go. He needs to be back at work on Monday morning.

CPT is kind of making me angry as is the tiny hop from SEA to PDX... both make it show as an upgraded award flight even though the segments are short. 20K miles for a turbo prop for 40 min that costs $20 more than an economy ticket is NOT worth 20K more points guys!!...
Sorry for the confusion, I had to pay the Change fee (cash) and the difference in the biz to first award (points). Originally booked the whole thing in Biz, I mentioned it because
1) AS just started charging that change fee in like June
2) to point out even if half your flight is a lower class the price is determined by the highest class you you’ll fly

The only way to search Cathay awards was using the BA site. I didn’t bother with Emirates because the points costs were crazy nor with BA because of the fees. But with time not on your side you may just have to eat the BA fees again :(

As far as CPT-JNB goes yeah- saw the same thing. Ended up buying cheap econ fares with cash. I couldn’t stomach the points they wanted for those! I went with Kulula, there are a couple dozen flights/day that do that route and various low cost options, my understanding is the later in the day you get the more delayed the flights get FYI. (Unfortunately my US placement tickets were both more expensive than that one!)

thats a huge detour i think. haha. would be pretty fun at a stopover in HKG.
Sometimes you just have to stop halfway around the other side of the world when you travel ;)

In all seriousness though @AquaDame I’d at least check if there is any availability showing on the BA site for Cathay to the US via HKG (only way to get Africa to US with them is via HKG) for the days you need. Remember to check on seg at a time. Availability is scarce though :( It would be a couple thousand more miles of travel but you don’t have to stopover for a long time in HKG if you don’t want to.

Unfortunately I have physical limitations that won’t allow me to do strenuous hikes

I can't do a long, strenuous hike either. We took their option to kayak across Mendenhall and then walk up the glacier. (and it was a shared kayak, so DH did a bit more than his 1/2 of the paddling). It's a fantastic adventure if it's not too strenuous for you.

That sounds awesome! Thanks for the info - I'll add it to my spreadsheet of ideas :thanks:
