I love credit cards so much!

I sent a SM to Chase regarding the 100k IHG points after $2k spend offer that is floating about to see if they would match it. When I tried the offer link, it kicked me out saying that I hadn't been targeted for it, but I would still like to get it if I can. They sent me an message back saying that I should reply to that message once I had reached $2k and they would add the additional 20k points. Very happy!

Unexpected expense just popped up for next month so decided to use it towards a new minimum spend. Applied for the Barclaycard Arrival+ and went "pending". Dangit!! Why does this keep happening to me? I'm just gonna wait this one out.

It isn't true that all co-branded cards don't count towards 5/24. The Marriott personal card does count, but the Marriott business does not. The Southwest cards also count towards 5/24. @calypso726 gave a list above of the co-branded cards that don't count towards 5/24.
I edited my post to clarify. I forgot about the Marriott personal and southwest cards.

This is probably a long shot, but does anyone happen to know if booking a Disneyland Paris package (through the UK website, probably) would code as a travel purchase? We are considering pre-paying this for our trip next summer with the Barclaycard Arrival Plus, since it will finish our spend on that. It would be nice if we could redeem our travel credit/points against that too.

And a data point in case anyone happens to need it: We booked our flights with Flexperks (US Bank) and had enough points for two free and paying for one through their portal. We used the Barclaycard for the one we paid for through the portal and it did NOT code as travel (hence why I asked about the above). It coded as "direct marketing", despite the merchant name being "Travel Reward HQ".

Actually, I should also ask, anyone know if a Disney Cruise payment codes as travel? I'd hope so? Thanks!

Okay, I'm full of questions tonight. I'm trying to figure out when I'm past the 5/24 rule. I've done some reading, but thought I'd throw my specific situation out there to get a clearer answer. Here's what I'm working with:

5 cards that definitely count towards 5/24 - the oldest of these was opened 12/1/15

Cards that I'm not clear if they would count:
Authorized User on DH's Hyatt card - just last month (I keep seeing these can be taken out of consideration, but how?)
Discount Tire credit card (Nov. 2015) - not considered a Visa/MC/etc, so I THINK it won't count?
Line of credit/overdraft protection on my bank account - never used, but set it up for the heck of it before knowing about 5/24 - can't find any info if this counts

I'm thinking that means I can get a CSP in January? But if any of those others count, it's going to change things...to the point that maybe I just get other cards now to have some bonus to work on and put off the CSP. If anyone has any insight, it would be appreciated. Thanks!

Could use some help confirming the best next step . I have the following cc's (bonus spend completed), and have spend coming up that I need to funnel toward a bonus.
CSR 9/16
SW personal 4/17
SW business 4/17
United personal 5/17

(I bought 3 Park Hoppers when UT had their flash sale for my DD and it really hurt to not have the spend count toward a bonus!) I want to make sure I have the order down right to maximize Chase. I plan on applying for CIP tomorrow, I hope to use it for the down payment on my new car to cover the $5k spend. Is there a concern with that plan? There were some warnings a couple of pages back about how to go about meeting the spend. Between 1/2 and 3/4 of the required spend for my last 3 cards was through BJ's for Disney GS's. I'm probably going to have nightmares about Chase clawing back my precious points . I'm kind of thinking about applying for CSP (PC to CF next year) at the same time as CIP but I was targeted for the IHG 100K offer and really want that also. If I understand the situation correctly I shouldn't apply for IHG until after I have satisfied 5/24, is that correct? What other card would you suggest to maximize Chase's 5/24 rule? If I apply and get both the CIP and CSP I believe according to recent DP's I would still only be 4/24, but unable to apply for another Chase card for at least 30 days. That would have me applying for one yet to be determined Chase card and the IHG card the end of August. Followed immediately by applications for Discover IT (which I really want) and Delta AMEX 70k point offer (if it lasts that long). Hopefully I didn't make this so convoluted that no one can follow along. TIA

You need to have yourself removed as an authorized user on your DH's Hyatt card to have the chance that they might not consider it. Remove yourself now so that you have time between now and January for it to fall off your credit report. Also, store cards that aren't linked to a payment network like Visa/MC should not count towards 5/24, so you should be alright there as well. My gut is that the overdraft protection shouldn't count towards 5/24. I googled it and couldn't find anything at all on the subject, so I think you should be alright, but I am not 100% certain.

I would personally try for the CSP in January, since this is probably going to be your last chance at a Chase card if you are planning go after several non-Chase cards afterwards. I would want those 50k in points. The worst that happens is that they deny you for the CSP in January and you just go after those other cards then.

If you applied for both CIP and CSP at the same time, you would be at 5/24 because the CIP would most likely not show up on your personal credit report because it is a business card, but the CSP would show up and it would put you at 5/24. Basically, when people say that the 5/24 rule doesn't apply to a certain card, they mean that there are certain cards that you can apply to and still get approved for even if you are above 5/24. But once you are approved, those cards show up on your credit report and count towards your total number of cards. But since the IHG card doesn't count towards 5/24, you could apply for it even after you get the CIP and CSP. So if you got CIP, CSP and then IHG, this would put you at 6/24. The problem is that you might run into the 2/30 rule when trying for all of these cards and the IHG offer might expire before you could apply for both.

So you might have to decide which you value more, the 100k IHG points or the 50k UR points. I would think the UR points are move valuable in this case, especially since you can then PC that card to the CF next year and have those bonus categories available to maximize.

Store cards are YMMV as there are DPs that show "store only" cards counting.

One of my existing SW cards is a business card (and does not show up on my CR), that's why I thought I am 3/24 right now. Applying for CIP and CSP (if approved) would put me at 4/24 (4 personal and 2 business). You are right I need to determine the $ value for what I would use/get for the 100k IHG pnts (plus 1 additional night annually) and the 50k UR points. In my head they are running pretty close. BUT when I remind myself of what the goal is (r/t air to HI for my family of 9) CPS is the way to go. Thanks for your help.

Update on removing DH as an authorized user from my Marriott card. I removed him a few weeks ago, but the card was still showing up on his Transunion and Experian credit reports. Earlier this week, I submitted a dispute through the Transunion website and sent an email to dispute through Experian (it wouldn't let me submit through the website for some reason). Well, Transunion has already resolved the dispute and removed any record of the Marriott card from DH's credit report. It just took a few days. Hoping that Experian also resolves this quickly and removes the record.

That means that DH will be at 3/24 until January 2018 and then he drops down to 2/24. He mildly tolerates the credit card bonus game, but I have convinced him to apply for the CSP after we meet the $2k spend on the IHG card. Mostly he agreed because it will probably help his overall credit score, which is an important goal for us. He moved to the US from Canada a little more than 2 years ago and in that time we have been able to raise his credit score from nonexistent (literally, he had no score when he first moved here) to 745. We are aiming to get his score over 800 as soon as possible, so that it is in line with mine and we are then eligible for the best rates on loans and such.

I missed that one of the SW cards was a business card. In that case, you are at 3/24 and that means that you could probably get all 3 cards. You will just have to space them out correctly. I would get the IHG card now and maybe the CIP too, since then you will be at 4/24. And then once you have hit the MS for those cards and passed the 2/30 rule, you could apply for the CSP, which would put you at 5/24.

Anyone know if the Capital One Venture One will allow to cancel and reapply so as to get the signup bonus again. And if so what about the points I already have under the account. Will they just transfer to the new account. TIA

Maybe I should give this a try to get rid of our mess up closed AMEX AU accounts, to make our lives easier...

So,after 3 calls to Chase recon, 30 minutes on hold, another 40 minutes talking to a rep, DH was finally approved for SW card! :cool1: But with only a 2k limit :( but hey I'll take it.
What I don't understand is, 2 weeks ago DH had a total of 40k limits on his chase cards (CSR & CSP) I reduced them to 12k each to have room for other cards. Today they only approved him for 2k & that was pulled from his CSP, reducing it to 10k.
