I love credit cards so much!

I would be more interested in the 100k offer, but isn't the MSR for that usually 10k? I could never, ever meet that. I have a hard enough time hitting 5k with Amex in 90 days!

The best offer on the personal Platinum is 100k MR after $5k in 3 months. The best offer on the Business Platinum is 100k MR after $10k in 3 months.

(There have been a mix of other higher point offers before, so "best offer" viewed historically is debatable.)

OK I admit I haven't been paying attention to the southwest chatter going on for a while but... since my plan is to get the CP for Dh by Jan, at this point, are better offers showing up within an airport,or actually in flight than regular offers? I need to pay attention as we will be traveling in early Dec.(one of us probably on a SW flight) and need to get my plans in order. I was thinking a Biz and a personal to get there...Biz has to be first, right? also thinking since it's my ds1 on SWA, if a good offer shows up there should I have him apply with my Dh's info to get a good offer inflight? (he's trustworthy but hates cc's lol) either way, I was going to maybe refer DH since I still have both pers. cards, but I'll go with whatever gets us to CP faster....
I flew on SW 9/6 and 9/10. Only increased in flight offer I had was 50k for the priority. Offer for plus and premier were both 40k. Biz was 60k.

Just wanted to report back about my Marriott upgrade issue. I got a reply back from a different rep. He apologized for the misinformation I previously received and said that the rest of my points WOULD be on my next statement! He assured me that the offers I received and signed up for were for 50k points after making a purchase before 12/31/18. Still keeping my fingers crossed in case of any other mishaps!

Chase $300 checking bonus posted yesterday after a $501 push from my credit union, roughly 2 weeks after opening the account. That was stupid easy. Time to sign up P2.

I went with just plat for the reasons you and @SFF stated about pulling PRG later. Feeling good about it.

That is great about all the credits. We don't really uber except at disney, but I can use them at disney in Dec. Can I buy uber gift cards or reload DD19's uber app or something to get the credits?

I didn't notice anyone else mention this, but if you have UberEats in your area, the credits work for that too.

Yeah, I remember earlier this year the Biz Plat was 100K/$10k + 50k/$10k in 3 months, which is a lot of spend but I believe the highest offer ever. Wish I had jumped on it, but at the time I didn't think we could do it (we hadn't paid taxes yet, we hadn't bought DVC yet... we would have probably hit it).

How much is the project?

Do you want to put that spend on a new credit card for the signup bonus?

Have you been eyeing any particular credit card?

Will your contractor accept check, PayPal, or Venmo?

The project is just under $15k. I do not have a new card to meet sign up bonus. DH just got the CSR but via PC so no bonus. I was still thinking of putting the spend on that card. We have CSP, CSR, Amex Spg Personal, CIC, CIP and Marriott. The contractor will take a check. Not sure about PayPal. Venmo is just like Plastiq right? I thought about Plastiq but I wasn’t sure the fee would offset the points earned.

ETA: I just remembered I lowered my CL to $5k on CIP and CIC and my CL is only $5k on Marriott.

So TL;DR -- using MR points can be complicated, call Amex Travel first.

HAHA, this is why everyone loves UR's even if they're not always the right choice. They are easy to figure out value both earning and redeeming; Chase made it simple.

So back to my original transfer or AmEx travel portal options then :) Got excited for a minute there. But thanks for the legwork calling AmEx travel to confirm!!!

so if I'm going to try this, I would need to get the biz at least 30 days prior to flying and going for the pers. offer in flight?

Looking for advice from the experts on what card/s I should go for next.

I currently have from Chase the Freedom and Sapphire Preferred (6 years old) and the Ink Preferred 7/18
From Amex I have the Green card and The Hilton. The Hilton card was changed over from a Citi card.
I also have a PenFed Visa and some Department store cards.

The Ink is the only card I've applied for in the past few years.

I'm trying to accumulate rewards/points for a trip to Europe in 2020.

Also, this is a great and very helpful thread. Thanks to everyone that contributes their time and knowledge.

Curious. How does the Amex plat biz make the points worth 1.54?

I’m sorry I should have clarified that the points are 1.54 when redeemed for air travel on your selected airline or business and first on any airline. I tend to be pretty miles-centric in my thinking. I will go back and edit my post.

So, if you use those points to pay for airfare on your selected airline in any class of service or another airline in business or first you will receive 35% of your points back a few weeks later. So if my airfare is $1,000 I need 100,000 MR to pay for it. Then, a few weeks later I will get 35,000 MR put back in my account. My flight costs 65,000 MR which is .01538 or 1.54 cents. Hope that helps.

Hm, that's either a recent BS change or it's not enforced. We did it in March, and it clearly says "Withdrawal to JPMORGAN CHASE savings account XXXXXX" If it were a pull from Chase it would show up different, so we had to have added it like I recall. (and I don't recall that restriction before) That's just a total BS explanation for savings accounts unless something radically changed in the last 6 months.

I've maxed out my 3 linked accounts so I can't try to add a new one to see if it works even though it says not. If they didn't work to trigger other bank DD requirements we'd probably drop them entirely once I get the Schwab checking thing figured out as I think it offers all the same ATM/no FTF's benefits and hubby's only really using CO360 for his Sharebuilder trades (which apparently isn't Sharebuilder anymore, I think they went to eTrades or something).
Let me see if it will take my savings account. I'm only at 2 external accounts at the moment.

Quick recommendation:

1) Generate a referral link from your CSP
2) Downgrade the card to an a Chase Freedom or Freedom unlimited
3) Wait a few days or a week (so that the system recognizes you don’t have a CSP anymore)
4) double dip a CSR and CSP (use a DISchurners link for CSR ;) and your own link for CSP)
5) meet $8,000 in combined MSR (minimum spend requirement)
6) end up with about $1,800 in URs for travel

:)

Hi @ericf70 and welcome!

Do you know which airline you will be flying to Europe? Is your airport a hub for any particular airlines? Also what class of service do you think you will be booking? If not, start by making some mock bookings close to the time of year you will be traveling to get an idea which airlines fly from your airport and on which routes. You can google flights or Momondo. Once you know what airline you may need to fly, make a frequent flatter account for that airline. Then search for award flights to get an idea of how many miles you will need in each direction. Also, let us know here so we can point you in the right direction.

I have to walk back my too early in the morning, before I've had any coffee statement.

I've read that it works for Southwest, but I'm not sure about other airlines.

If you try to use Amex's Use Points for Charges feature by yourself, you'll see a redemption rate of only 0.6 cpp even on charges booked directly with an airline. In the MMS example, they had to call in to Amex Travel to get the reimbursement at 1 cpp.

Not wanting to rely solely on MMS, I chatted with Amex this morning. The frontline Amex rep told me MR are 1 cpp for flights booked on Amex Travel, but 0.6 cpp for flights booked directly with an airline and reimbursed as a statement credit. I asked him using Southwest as an example, and Amex's own faq answer that tells you to book directly and then redeem points for the charge (and not mentioned, MMS's dp that it redeems at 1 cpp). The Amex rep basically told me I should always check first with Amex Travel how points will be redeemed for charges before booking directly, because Amex Travel can help book the flight over the phone at 1 cpp.

So TL;DR -- using MR points can be complicated, call Amex Travel first.

You know, it never occurred to me to use MR NOT through Amex Travel. Like, I wouldn't have used them MR points to get a statement credit. It's really very easy to use their travel portal but it's so much better to transfer.

I agree...often check Amex Travel for fun (but then again I'm weird!). I would also never use MR points for statement credit BUT I have an Amex Plat Biz (oh and regular personal and MB personal...I love my Amex!) AND currently if you redeem with points and have the Biz 35% of your MR is returned which is awesome. The portal occasionally also has "special fare pricing" if you have enough MRs to cover the ticket-slightly less than their other prices so another potential savings.

So for me, to use the Amex Travel portal and redeems with my MRs are twofold: 1) 35% back (if this continues) thanks to Amex Plat Biz and 2) it's booked as a cash fare so when I fly Delta I earn MQMs/MQDs to maintain my status. Having status this year has saved me hundreds of dollars if not over a thousand.

MRs seem more intimidating than URs but they are awesome!

I applied for Citi AA Business Card (70,000 points) yesterday and was instantly approved. Recently received the Barclay AAdvantage card so that will be another 50,000 and DH called in to see status on his application (had to send in documentation) and his card is on the way. After I do the spend on the Citi AA card will have DH get that card (will be using Mortgage/Plastiq to pay MSR). So, that will be 240,000 AA Miles with not really having to do anything.

Since my SW points are almost depleted I need to get more airline miles. (Can't reapply for SW until late next summer). We haven't paid for airfare in so long - can't start now. Have never flown AA but will still get free checked luggage with card. Maybe we an even venture into International Travel (although that process is so unknown to me also - mainly do Disney and Cruises).

Now will have to venture out and try and get some of the 9 digit mailers to keep the points coming. As long as I can pay Mortgage to earn the points - that makes it so easy. And can still get other cards too.
