I love credit cards so much!

Hello,
I've read through a bunch of this thread and other sites, then decided to take the plunge with a few Chase cards to beat what I receive from the Disney 1% Visa.
I was aware of the Chase 5/24 rule, but I only had the Disney Visa. I applied online for the Freedom unlimited and was accepted immediately. I then went for the Ink Business Cash CC and I received a message that it would take 30 days. I then went for the Freedom and was told it would take 7 days.
I just received a rejection letter for the Freedom saying I had too many credit requests or open accounts with us.
What did I do wrong?
I make a solid income at a regular job and have never been rejected for a CC.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thank you
Hi did you apply for all these cards on the same day

Thanks for the reply. I applied for all 3 in the same day, in the span of an hour, about a week ago.
I have the Disney card, which I've had for at least 2 years. I have a credit union CC that I've had for 1.5 years, and a Kohl's charge I've had for more than 10 years. Those 3 before being accepted for the CFU.

Yep that’s the problem..you have to space out applications...the recommended time with Chase is 3-4 months between applications

Hey Folks, I just went on the Chase UR site to try to price out our upcoming March 16-23 vacation to WDW but all of the on property Disney resorts are sold out. Will they add any more inventory or am I stuck having to pay cash? It does fall under the spring break period so I know it will be busy but wasn't expecting to see all the rooms sold out so early. Just hit the MSR on P2's CIP so I was hoping to book once the 80k points were posted.

When did you apply for all these cards? Chase has a 1/30 and 2/30 kinda rule for applications. For business cards you can't have any applications in the 30 days before. For personal cards can only do 2 applications in the 30 days.

So if you did them all in a short period of time that would explain the too many credit requests message on the Freedom cuz that was #3. The CIC may get denied too depending on how close it was after the CFU approval.

If so, there isn't usually any penalty for being rejected for that reason, aside from some hard pulls maybe. After the allotted time passes you can reapply.

While you think about it and maybe wait it out, have you considered some of their cards with a higher sign up bonus? It'd get you more points towards Disney but they do have a higher minimum spend requirement to get it. Something to consider if you can make the spend.

Again, with the Chase biz cards you can't have had an app with them within the last 30 days. Since you just got the CFU you'll actually want to wait until at least Oct/Nov to do your next Chase biz app to avoid potential shut down.

That credit union CC you got less than 2 years ago does count. You'll want to go onto Credit Karma to pull your credit reports or do them elsewhere to ensure it's been at least 2 years since you got the Dis card and to find out when exactly you got the credit union card. If it has been over 2 years then you are 2/24 with the CFU and credit union card.

It's great that you've read up on stuff, but had you posted here what you were thinking about doing we would have been able to tell you how to do it. But also for this, what are your goals for getting the cards? Do you have trips you are planning that you need points/miles for etc?

There are several different ways to go about churning, us knowing what you are looking to do with them is a big part of that along with if you have a willing player 2 that can also get cards. If you do have a P2 then we'd also need to know what cards they have and when they got them. It's all to help you best accomplish the trips etc that you are trying to do and to stay within the rules and avoid a potential Chase shutdown. Things also change fast, yesterday Chase came out with a new rule for the Saphire cards that you can't get the bonus again if you've gotten it within the last 48 months, until yesterday it was 24 months. You don't have to keep up with this thread, because it can move fast, but do ask questions.

And I forgot earlier :welcome:. We are a nice helpful bunch but we will ask a lot of questions at first to be able to help :)

Which card did you access the portal from? They've been changing them over and I don't know if the saphires have been switched yet. There's two things I would try, check on Disney to see if you get the same results so you know what they have. Second I would check expedia because that's who Chase is starting to use for their portal and it should have the same inventory. Not sure if them using expedia changes the inventory when using the portal.

However if Disney has rooms you should be able to do two things, either call Chase and see if they can book it through the phone directly through Disney, I think it's Cruise & Tours dept or something like that. Or you can book it through Disney and do a TA transfer to Chase and then they'll become the TA. Either takes a bit more work, but it might be the change in portal that's doing it.

A window into how I process a potential CC opportunity...

Tonight I received an email from AMEX for my wife to upgrade her BCE (Blue Cash Everyday) to a BCP (Blue Cash Preferred). The offer was for $250 for spending $2,000 in the first 3 months and I have until 10/12/18 to decide.
  • I'm very familiar with both of these cards. Both of us have gotten a BCE (mine is closed, wife's still open) and I got a BCP once (also closed)
  • The main difference between the cards is 6% on groceries (BCP) vs. 3% on groceries (BCE) (there's also a difference at gas stations and other stuff but those mean nothing to me).
  • The other major difference is that BCP has a $95 AF which is not waived in year 1 (on either the signup bonus offer OR the upgrade offer).
  • The incognito offer AND support link offer for BCP are both $250 back for spending $1,000 so this requires an additional $1k in spend. (But as I stated, it doesn't include a waived AF so you're net earnings on the signup is $155 + base earnings. If I assume all $1k will be spent on groceries ($60 rewards) it's $215 net @ 21.5%
  • On the upgrade offer it would again be $155 + base earnings. If I assume all $2k will be spent on groceries ($120 rewards) it's $275 net @ 13.75%.
  • IF my wife does this upgrade she will not be eligible to earn the signup bonus on this AMEX card in the future.
  • Do I have a CC slot open with AMEX...hmmm yes, I recently cancelled the SPG biz and only have 4 open CCs for my wife right now
  • This upgrade provides a decent return though with NO hard pull and NO new account that would count against 5/24.
  • We're currently in the midst of our double dip MSR and need to meet that spend by early November.
  • IF I did this upgrade in early October it would carry us through the holidays into early January. Since groceries is the category bonus I could buy gift cards to various stores and VGCs to run ALL my spend through the category.
  • The next step on our strategy was an AMEX biz card in November...hmmm this almost functions like an AMEX biz card.
  • So if I do this I can't later earn the signup bonus for her on this card...BUT was I ever really going to dedicate a 5/24 slot to a $215 signup bonus value?? I know that I signed up for it in my name...but that was when I was getting every AMEX card under the sun while getting my wife back UNDER 5/24.
  • This also would put a 6% earner in my wallet for the next year until the AF posts again. Hmmm I could put some regular AMEX spend on this card and maybe avoid the dreaded "Ineligible Popup". Normally I'd downgrade this card after a year...but MAYBE I need to consider dedicating $6,000 in grocery spend a year to keep on AMEX's good list. AND I pay the $95 AF to earn the 6% back vs. the 3% back and net an additional $85 in rewards a year. (It ends up being $6,000 x 6% = $360 - 95 = $265 @ 4.4% vs. $6,000 x 3% = $180 @ 3%).
Lots to consider here, and I have some time to think about it. BUT with this new 48 month provision and continued crackdowns on churners, I may need to start to consider employing some excellent daily drivers. My 4 Freedom Cards and a Discover card are good. An AMEX BCP might be another good one to have. Right now I'm leaning towards taking the offer.

If this comment seems really scattered it's because this is literally how my brain worked through it, LOL! I take my CC offer evaluations SERIOUSLY folks :teacher::surfweb::coffee::scratchin:magnify:

But isn’t applying for grants, researching and buying the instruments etc etc, a business?

So what kind of business would that be? I don't know what AmEx applications ask for. How often does AmEx require a phone call to get an application approved?

Oh, yikes. So if I was accepted for the Chase Freedom U on Aug.21, I need to wait until Nov. 21 to do another Chase? Bummer
Yes that’s the recommended time frame....you already listed the cards you have earlier....everyone here is super helpful.....are you looking to find ways to save money going to Disney or other places too....do you fly and use a certain airline...all these things will factor in what people will advise on..

I’ve never had Disney hotels show up for me on the UR site...I’ve had to call

So you already got some good advice - just figured I'd mention again that while it sounds like we sign up for a TON of cards here (we do!) we just do it over the course of time. With a better understanding of the rules you can get 2 Chase cards on the same day...but it's really not necessary to do that. Putting AT LEAST 1 month between applications is good, and if you can do it 3+ months is even better.

Ah, d'oh :headache: Yeah that sounds like the problem. You can check on your app status for the CIC through the automated line, but most likely it'll say that you'll hear in 7-10 days which means you'll be getting a similar denial letter in the mail. 1800-432-3117 and follow the prompts to check application status.

So you have some time to think about if you want to formulate another plan. You're in a good spot at 2/24 to work on a good amount of points to pay for the next trip.

My goal has been to stay under 5/24, but with the new 24 month restriction I think I will get all the chase cards I want and then abandon that plan. With that in mind I am trying to come up with a new plan - what do you think?

Right now I am 3/24
*1 CSR - 3/17 (PCd to CFU 3/18)
CIP - 8/17
*2 Marriott personal 2/18
*3 Venture - 2/18
SPG Biz - 3/18
Delta Biz - 4/18
CIC - 7/18

My plan:
CIU - 10/18
*4 CF - 1/18
*5 Hyatt 4/19

DH is also 3/24
*1 CSR 7/17
CIP 10/17
SPG Biz - 3/18
*2 Venture - 2/18
*3 SPG personal 4/18

He was also denied in June for the CIC for not using his CIP so I'm hoping if I close that card after the anniversary date they will approve him for another business card? I applied for the CIP with his EIN so I could apply as a sole proprietor if that would help.

Plan for DH:
*4 CF - now
CIU - 12/18
CIC - 3/19
*4 Hyatt 6/19

I keep going back and forth on squeezing Southwest Personal and Biz in on the December and January and getting two CPs (we are a family of 5) and pushing everything else back, but we really don't fly Southwest so I think I will just abandon that idea. Any advice appreciated!
Some scattered thoughts:
  • You can get Hyatt while over 5/24 (although it seems like a shutdown risk).
  • Remember you CAN double dip at 4/24 so maybe you do Hyatt and CFU (just PC your current CFU to a CF before doing this)?
  • Your husband could also double dip at 4/24
  • Have you considered getting SW cards and cashing out via Gift Cards? If Southwest isn't your ideal airline you could just use a 50k signup bonus to get $500 in Target Gift Cards. It's less lucrative than using them to fly...but if you CAN'T use the flights then $500 is a good signup bonus (less the $69 or $99 annual fee of course so it's a little less). There are options other than Target too but I mention them because you can make good use of them on almost anything you'd need.
  • You could also plan to keep one of you hovering around 5/24 to get a CSR/CSP again in 2021 (wow that sounds far away). There is risk to this though if things change further.

I went through my CF card. Checked out Expedia and they were all sold out too. Disney has plenty of inventory. I will call Chase once my points post and get it booked. Thanks!

Little late, but SPG finally sent me an email with my new SPG/Marriott number in it. Subject line "NOW LIVE: New Benefits, One Combined Program"

I didn't have any problems because I only have a SPG account, so I got logged in without problems. But I know others have been waiting on Marriott numbers.

My SPG Biz and my (now useless since I found the card) replacement Hilton Biz both showed up today! I'm about $1100 into my $2500 Citi MSR, so I'm thinking maybe I'll put that card in DH's wallet so he can finish it up.

My CIC URs also are not pending even though I met the spend 10 days ago. Wish they'd hurry up!

I like seeing your thoughts on this! I think I have offer upgrade for my BCE to BCP also so I need to evaluate like you have. Is there a resource to see average bonus versus all time high bonus to compare?

My 25th Marriott night has appeared when I checked my status for my Courtyard VA Beach stay this afternoon. I am not sure what it is from since my activity doesn’t look any different and I can’t see my stay from last Sat on it. We decided to cancel our stops in OCMD and Bethany Beach and I added another night at check-in using points. The good part is DH and I both have $60 Marriott Amex offer so we’ll be saving $120 on our stays. And DH needed some items from Walgreens and I totally forgot I had linked the RMN offer but I got the pop-up on using it as we were walking out the door.

@DisneyMandC- All of the places to eat, we ended up at PF Chang’s for dinner. (DS11’s favorite place ever!) I think tomorrow is just going to be pizza/pasta and Thurs to Captain George’s. We just did the one in Williamsburg last night for dinner.
