I love credit cards so much!

Personally I know that in the course of one year I will use the $300 on charges I can't cover with points so I would use URs for a car rental.
Haha - when you literally spend $0 on travel (like me) - it's a weird situation. I have used $13 of the credit so far...paid to park downtown...yay. I do that once every 6-8 weeks. Not sure I'd even have anything else to put on there, haha.

Wait... there are TWO pop ups?! Like this wasn't confusing enough before :crazy2:

I think we have now determined there is one pop-up...there was just some confusion in the different ways they commented on it.

There are two pop-ups.

1. Not eligible because you have or have had this card before.

2. Not eligible based on your history.

@magickingdomprincess Personally I wouldn't stay at Springhill Suites Maingate. It is nowhere near the Maingate for what it's worth. I think people try to walk to Mickey and Friends and take the tram? I would definitely get that part thoroughly researched prior to committing to a stay there with a family. If someone here doesn't have experience ask on the DL board. Do y'all fit at the courtyard I see on that handy marriott map? ( https://www.hotelsbypoints.com/updated-marriott-starwood-map ) Looks to by Hyatt Place which I know is near the Toy Story Parking Lot so you could take that bus to the park...
I stayed at Hyatt Place. I think there was a Springhill right next door. You literally cross the street and there is a bus stop in the Parking lot. Mickey and friends and I believe we were Toy Story. Busses we never too full like WDW and it took 10 minutes or so. We did walk one morning. We are a pretty fit group probably took less than a half hour.

Correct - I guess to clarify there are not THREE popups. We were thinking there was a Not Eligible based on history and a MAY not be eligible based on history. @LynnTH clarified that she probably just mis-typed her message and that it didn't say "MAY not be". Hopefully that clarifies what's being discussed here.

I personally completely ignore #1 because why would somebody be applying for a card they had before knowing the once per lifetime rule (unless it has been 7 years and they fully knew what they were trying to do).

So despite Having A Plan...I folded and applied for the Lux:o. It gave me no pop ups but...went to the 14 day message. Since I have the R-C I couldn't wait 14 days and called recon (thanks @Lain for the number).

I played dumb with the CSR...oh I think I need to cancel a card, which would you recommend and the DL Gold went away (which is great, I never use it).

So in 1-3 days I should have a pretty new purple plastic card :)

As far as DPs, Amex and I have a 17 year love affair, I got the SPG Biz in Feb; 2 charge cards in July and I try to put something on each card (okay except for the DL Gold) every month or couple of months. Amex knows I'm a sucker and more loyal to them than Chase, I guess. I'd say I put around $50,000 or more annually on cards total so don't know if that is a factor. Anyway, excited for my new card!

I haven't had a chance to catch up on the thread since early this morning, and I have to run off to lunch, but I wanted to share my experience when trying to apply for an Amex biz card this morning:

I tried to apply for the Amex Blue Biz (10k MR after $3k MSR), and received the popup message saying I didn’t qualify for the bonus due to prior bonuses received. Sorry- can’t remember the exact message, I did a screenshot but it’s at home and I’m at work. Next I tried to apply for the Delta biz gold because I thought I remembered co-branded cards are not as scrutinized as MR cards, but received the same message. Stats – I currently have the SPG biz (rec’d bonus in Apr I believe) and the Hilton biz (received the bonus in July) .

I went and looked up the stmt balances on each card:

SPG:

Mar $2500

Apr: $2500

May: $45

Jun: $327

Jul: $838

Aug: had 0 end balance but did have activity.

Hilton:

Jun $3050

Jul: $193

Aug $38

I was kind of surprised because it’s only my 3rd amex biz card, and it’s not like I haven’t had any spending at all on my cards. I’m wondering if this is just a fluke or if it’s a sign of Amex cracking down on churners? Not sure where to go from here, I guess I’ll try to put some spend on the cards to try to get back in Amex’s good graces, while putting most big spend on my DH’s CSP while I’m waiting to try for the CIP in Nov when I go under 5/24. Any thoughts or suggestions?
Geez... I’m wondering if it has to do with using the same browser? Anyone willing to try again from a different browser? Just a thought, it could be that Amex is getting stingy.

All these AMEX DPs are scary. I hope it’s just a glitch and gets sorted out!
I’ve opened x3 business cards with AMEX in the past month! I was under the impression this was ok since x2 were charge (BGR and BG) and one credit (SPG biz). The only other card I have is SPG personal. I have an amex history since 2001. I think I will lay off Amex and spend a little for a while!!

I also got the 100k SPG LUX upgrade offer. $300 credit not available until anniversary date which is March for me. Not really worth it since I have a trip in Feb and won’t be able to even use the credit right away. So for the price I’d literally be paying for points, right?

I wonder if length of history with Amex is a factor. I’ve been an Amex cardmember for about 7 years.

Oh, and CONGRATULATIONS on approval for the Pretty Purple Plastic card! (I confess I do love the Purple.)

@disneymagicgirl have you used the RMN offer for Sam's? How are you paying? I'm trying to decide if I pay with gift cards it will trigger, my credit card charge will be under $45. I dont see why not...
No, because my actual sams order (not gift cards) hasn't posted and isn't pending. I am going to get that fixed first. It hasn't been delivered yet but I ordered almost a week ago and supposed to arrive today. If they credit me for that one without issue I may try it.

Personally I would do the spend and hope for the bonus. If the bonus is not awarded contact Amex and you can use a copy of your chat to back you up. Unfortunately, at the end of the day the agreement you signed when getting the card allows Amex to not give you the bonus so do not count on getting those MRs until they actually show up in your account. As you can tell from your above chat, their chat reps are idiots. What they say is worth nothing more than a hail mary if you need to fight for the bonus.

I'm sorry your the unwilling DP on this but we're definitely all pulling for you!

Will certainly put the spend on the card and see what happens. Have nothing to lose at this point...

Now am considering trying for the Marriott Business Card for DH. He has had both SPG Cards but not any Marriott. The AMEX Gold won't show up yet. It will still make him 4/24. But he opened CIP on 5/29/18 and SW Business 1/18. Is that too much Business cards for them? (Will eventually go for CIP#2 or CIC but will be cancelling SW after January). Think I should try.... My luck isn't the greatest lately.

Yes, they deduct the URs immediately when you book the rental car.
Yes, you can monitor and re-book as long there is nothing in the rental car information about being nonrefundable.
Yes, as long as it is a refundable booking.
I had no problems at a pick-up counter or when I returned the car and always ended up with a $0 balance.

All in all it was super easy just like I would have booked it directly through the car rental site.

Great info! Anyone have experience booking with National and using the Emerald Aisle?

Hilton Biz app instantly approved!! My first business card, I'm excited LOL. This will/should hold me over until I go for CIP, which will be October or November depending on when I finish spend on this new card.

For the DPs related to AMEX denying the welcome bonus, I am not a good DP because I only have one AMEX personal card, that I opened in 2014 and use quite a bit.

I was asked if I wanted access to card number right away, and saw discussion earlier today about always requesting access in case it times out. Well, mine timed out and says "Currently, our systems are not responding". How do I go about requesting a consolation of sorts? I think someone mentioned points or credit?

@striker1064 seemed to have some knowledge on that one... :)

Pretty strange. That sounds to me like an actual system error on Amex's end. You should have received credit/points automatically (with a message indicating it) if you were going to get them. If you didn't see that, I think you're out of luck unfortunately. That's new.

Messing around, really should be working because today has been crazy... but pulled up amex in incognito, put in DHs name missing two letters to see if any interesting targeted offers come up.
  • Green card with no points, waived AF; usual offer is 25k/$1k with waived fee
  • Normal Cash Magnet card offer
  • PRG 25k/$2k, waived fee; usual offer is 50k/$2k with waived fee

Does anyone have thoughts/opinions on Barclay Arrival+ vs. Capital One Venture?

I am looking for ways to save $ on an Airbnb stay in London for next summer so am considering a card that will allow me to erase travel purchases. I've never used Airbnb before but based on my reading of their payment terms, you can't split the payment between multiple credit cards even if you book a reservation that allows you to pay a deposit at booking and the balance later. You can't change your payment method between booking and final payment. The only thing I could possibly do to split it between two cards would be to split the payment with my wife and use a different card to pay her portion. (I think this will work but not 100% sure.)

Based on properties I've looked at for approximate dates we'd stay, it will be between $1,500-$2,000. Barclays welcome offer is 60,000 miles ($600) for $5,000 spend (at 2X miles = 10,000 miles) so I'd get a minimum of $700 value there. CapOne Venture is 50,000 miles ($500) for $3,000 spend (at 2X miles = 6,000 miles) so that's $560 in value. Barclays has an $89 AF (not waived); CapOne's $95 AF is waived the first year.

Is one of these cards easier to get than the other? If I were to go for both, which should I get first? And, probably most importantly, can anyone confirm if Airbnb codes as travel on both of these?

I am also on the fence about the SPG Lux but need to make a decision soon since I'll be locked out as of 8/26. I'll definitely use the benefits on two Starriott stays next year but don't really need that $5K MSR (or $450 fee) right now. I'm planning to refer my wife to the CIP before I cancel mine at the end of next month, so that'd give us $10K in MSR to do in the next ~4 months which is a lot for us.

That just means the standard offers came up. Sometimes in incognito you just see the standard offers (which includes nothing on green and 25k on PRG).
