I love credit cards so much!

It will count/add another card to */24. But you can get approved at or over 5/24.

I will be at 4/24 after Sept 25, 2018. So at that point if my main goal is the United Card, I should get that first and then IHG if that is still on my list. Right? Any point in double dipping United and IHG? Or would it be better to space them out?

After Sept 25 I won't be under 5/24 until Jan. 27, 2019.

Swalphin help- anyone familiar with the Java Bar? We’re staying Beach Club and I’m having images of my espresso addicted family awake at 7am unable to get to the French bakery in Epcot until 9am... They don’t end well! I need a backup plan! (I once tried a mocha at the AKL QS and it was the most disgusting mocha I’d ever had so want to avoid BC QS pseuedo-espresso bar.) Can you get a semi-decent latte at the Java Bar at Swan? (My bar isn’t high, I swear! Give me a Starbucks and I’m a very happy camper :) ) OH- and can you bring drinks with you on a Friendship Boat to the parks?

@gottalovepluto - I was at the Swan last week - the Java Bar is acceptable for a cappuccino/latte. You can always ask for an extra espresso shot if needed.

Also, I was not even aware of the no drinks rule on the boats. We only used the friendship boats a few times, but I definitely had a coffee in hand on 2 of those occasions and nobody said anything.

Previously, the popular thought was to eat the $95 AF for the big bonus, then cancel or product change the CIP (to a CIC) after a year. But, the CIP’s 3x earning ability on Plastiq, Gyft, Swych, Venmo, eBay fees and shipping, etc., the 1.25x redemption bonus if you don’t have the CSP or CSR, and ability to generate referral bonuses (the CIC and CIU don’t have referrals) has made it a keeper card for a lot of people. In addition, with the CIC and CIU each having 50k UR signup bonuses, the shift in thinking is to hold on to the CIP if the numbers work out, cancel the CIP if not, and apply for the CIC and/or CIU separately so you can get the signup bonus. You don’t get a bonus for product changing your CIP to the CIC/CIU.

3 business card on your one SSN (without resorting to signing up for EINs), with applications sufficiently spaced out, and keeping overall credit lines low to increase your chances of auto-approval, seems to be about the upper limit of what Chase will approve.

I got my CIP in April with its sad little $5000 credit limit. DH has his which I am keeping but I pretty much wanted to get mine for the points. Would you say cancel it and then maybe down the road (after lowering some personal limits) try for a business card again like CIC? Should I just leave it open for closer to the year mark? Just product change it and call it good? I don’t want to run afoul of Chase but at the same time it is a card I really don’t need and it is a bit of a hassle because it has a separate log in from all the other accounts. DH has all the Chase business cards now and I have the physical employee card so I don’t really need my own account of any of them...I would just want one of the other ones for the bonus.

@gottalovepluto at first I thought my husband was crazy in announcing on one of our last trips he was bringing his own travel mug for coffee (contingo). I said fine bring mine too. LOVE having it in the parks. Just buy the coffee and then dump it in there. If it is in a mug like that Disney doesn’t care if you have it on boats/rides since it is a secure lid and you can just throw it in your backpack when done.

I am coming up on my year anniversary of having the CIP. I haven’t used it much and think I would be better off having the CIC. How do I pc it? Do I have to wait for the annual fee to post and then SM?

If you're not getting much use out of the CIP, keep your CIPs until it's been a year and the AF hits, then I'd personally cancel it and apply for the CIC separately if you're still under 5/24. [ETA: If you are over 5/24, definitely PC the CIP to a CIC to take advantage of the category bonuses.] The CIC is a solid card with very useful 5x categories, but you don't get any bonus for a product change and you'd be passing up a 50k UR signup bonus. If you're under 5/24, you're eligible for the CIC. And if you preemptively lower your credit limits about a month or two before an anticipated application, keeping your credit lines lower (safer), you shouldn't have a problem getting approved for the CIC.

That’s the problem, I can’t. It’s just one button, no matter where I click, if that makes sense? I guess I can generate them at home and print? So much more work!
Are you sure you're in your phone's browser and not the Swagbucks app? In Chrome, this is what it does for me

And then just scroll down a bit to find the Get Code button.

Thanks @Lain for all the feedback given. I really appreciate how you (& others) put so much thought and effort into helping out with those next steps. This is such a kind community.

That would definitely be a wild and crazy 3 weeks! My plan is to set myself up for a double dip if it's still possible in March 2019 and while waiting I could go for the CIU like you mentioned. Now on to DH, I would like to get a CSR in our household this month but it's unlikely we can pull off a double dip with DH due to the possibility of needing to call in if it goes pending. (his schedule) But it seems such a waste with trying for one if he's not at 4/24, right?

You mean would it be a waste going for a double dip if DH is not at 4/24?

It doesn't look like you have a CSR in the household, so getting a CSR would be a great idea if you plan on making any redemptions soon because otherwise you're paying more points than you need to. Even if you don't have any redemptions coming up, having a CSR where you can pool your household's points is still a good idea.

I know some people might advise that going for a double dip at 4/24 will get you the most bang out of that final slot -- you get around the 5/24 limit and the one Sapphire limit, but it also depends on when the next oldest card will drop off if you want to get back under 5/24 and what your long-term strategy is. If DH double dips the CSR and CSP at 2/24, that'll push him to 4/24. If DH double dips the Sapphires at 4/24, that'll take him to 6/24, with a card dropping off as early as February or March 2019. Either way, that CSP will take up a slot. 50k UR is a lot of points, but like I said yesterday, it's not the end of the world if you can't get it on a double dip. There are plenty of other Chase cards will solid bonuses.

You'll get no judgment from me whatever you decide.

Dh tried to move it from the 25 to the 4 and it wouldn’t let him. I’m not sure why he tried to move it to today lol. He’s going to try 9 days early and see what happens

ETA: It told Dh that he can’t change it because he changed it within the last 180 days which isn’t true because it didn’t even let him change it before. I’ll probably just have to call again...sigh

You can SM, I wonder if it actually did work and move up to yesterday tho. Maybe in a few days the points will post

Has anyone done the Retailmenot offer for Staples, and received a pending notice? I bought the mastercard GC but no pending notice. Wondering if it takes longer since it's online only??
I bought one on the 27th, and it showed as pending on the 1st.

Also, your DS is too cute!

Applied for Marriott Biz...30 days...whomp whomp...Is instant approval even a thing anymore with Chase??
I just wanted to verify before I plunge. Marriott biz is not subject to 5/25. Best offer is 75,000 pts. And chase will allow 3 business cards. And I will have to hit the 3k spend before the 26th? Did I get it all? Oh and there are no referrals on the churners?

I am hesitant on the CIP since I am not sure if I would maximize value from it besides the 80,000 UR points. Switching it to the CIC for 5x on office supply and 2x on gas sounds tempting. You really do maximize those rewards! I have been using my Target RedCard to purchase Disney gift cards with a 5% savings. I guess I have to calculate the difference between the immediate 5%, and the 3x CSR UR points and 1.5 max redemption rate to see if charging Disney expenses would get me more than Target. I know it will definitely help with airfare. Right now I am only getting 1%.

I've outlined our Disney expenses for this year somewhere on this thread before for a comparison of UR earning and cash back before and am happy to post it here for you. I'm well aware that our Disney expenses are not the norm but I do believe seeing an extreme example can help others formulate the options and possibilities for their own needs.

If I purchase Disney gift cards with the Ink at Staples and Office Max/Depot for 5x UR this would be what I'm looking at.

1300 DVC points will equal $8,000 in dues - 40,000 UR
Adventures by Disney Japan and post add on to parks trip is $25,516 - 127,580 UR
Platinum Annual passes w/DVC discount for 2 are $1318 - 6590 UR
Disney cruise $3388 - 16940 UR
Dining at WDW, tix for family members and the Dooney addiction etc. over the rest of this year for the next 13 currently planned trips for 2018 etc. will likely run $4,000 at the least. - 20,000 UR
It is also likely I will find a flimsy excuse to go to DLR again next year, quite possibly for Dapper Days again but nothing planned yet.

Our current Disney vacation plans if paid with Disney gift cards purchased with the Ink at Office Supply stores for 5x will bring in over 211,000 UR points.

If I decide to go for the Target 5% off the gift cards route over 5x UR, I would have saved a little over $2100. That is nothing to sneeze at. But $2100, for our travel hacking goals, which run along the lines of international first class flights, would not come close to the purchase power that the points will. I just priced out flights that we have booked on points with BA from JFK to Scotland and back in first class on BA. One ticket in first class is over $4,500. The 211,000 UR points I will have in my CSR account are worth $3165. I tend to transfer them to miles and get way more value than 1.5 value. The same flight cost me 168,000 British Airway miles. Granted the taxes and fees are a killer on BA but we were using a companion pass so Plane Princess get his seat for zero miles. We went to China with Adventures by Disney with a post trip to Japan a couple of months ago and used a mix of points from a few programs, SPG, MR, TYP to transfer to Singapore airlines. We booked the two of us in their Suites class and were able to experience a flight that was listed for over $18,000 per person one way. It was 250,000 miles per person. I would need 1.2 million UR to purchase just one seat. Uhm, no thanks.

We are going back to Japan next year but with ABD. If we decide to fly ANA the RT price for the flight would be over $25,000 for one person in first class. If I play my cards right I can transfer UR to United and book the first class flights for 220K UR round trip with a saver award. Keep in mind, we would never opt to purchase these flights, even if we had the spare cash to do so.

We are all about the points/miles in order to travel in a more luxurious style. We also like to have lots of points/miles to give us the flexibility to do something crazy just because we can. Our highlights of crazy include flying to London for a weekend just to see the Harry Potter play when it came out. Flying to San Francisco from Miami just to see Hamilton because we were able to get face value tickets thanks to Amex concierge service with the Platinum card. Future crazy includes flying to Puerto Rico to see Hamilton if I manage to get tickets to the show and currently playing Hamilton lottery every time I don't have to work on the weekend. I've decided if we win tickets for $10 there is no reason we can't fly out last minute to go see the show and come back the same or next day. I don't know why I didn't think of this before. Sigh ...

There is no wrong or right way to use your points and formulate strategies for your travel goals as far as everyone on this thread is concerned. So, please understand when you (or the newbies and lurkers on the thread that may not be aware) see posts with a counter point it isn't a "my way is better than your way" type of post. It's a "here is what I do and why just in case the idea might work for you." While my own goals are for the lie flat international first class seats, I have learned much from others in the group who are all about the "get where they'd like to go for free or as close to it as they can." I have employed their strategies and advice from time to time for a specific need in my own travel plans.

Hope this helps. :flower3:

@disneymagicgirl how was Disney after hours? Were the waits short for the mountains? I’m leaning towards buying tickets today for next Saturday. But I’m a little hesitant because that’s our arrival day and we will be up at 4am heading to the airport lol.

If I want to go for the SPG biz and the Marriott biz, does it matter which order I apply? Thinking no but want to make sure I'm not missing something.

I'm really, really tired. I've not been around much this past week. Here is why:
https://photos.app.goo.gl/w71BK1wfTV1oNbo39
This is my ds9 in his first play/musical. I spent all week running around looking for costume pieces and working with him on his song and lines :)

OMG!! Absolutely precious for a 9 year old! Mom, you did a great job!

Marriott Biz is not subject to 5/24 -- you can be approved for it even if you're at or over 5/24.

Best offer on it is 75k Marriott points after $3k/3 months. (I don’t believe the first year AF is waived anymore.)

Sadly, no referrals.

Several of us have 3 Chase business cards by applying with only our SSN (sole proprietorship). (I have the CIP, Marriott Biz, and CIC.) Keep in mind that other factors may affect whether Chase approves you for a third business card, including your creditworthiness, how much credit has already been extended to you across all Chase cards overall, whether you have too many cards, too many cards or inquiries in too short a time period, etc.

You'll find the following language on the Marriott Biz application page:

This bonus is available to you as long as you have not received a new cardmember bonus for this product in the last 24 months. Please note effective 08/26/2018: You may not be eligible for the bonus if you hold, or have previously held, a Marriott International co-branded card issued by a United States credit card issuer.

Eligibility for the new cardmember bonus: The bonus is not available to you if you:

(1) are a current cardmember of this business credit card;

(2) were a previous cardmember of this business credit card who received a new cardmember bonus for this business credit card within the last 24 months;

Effective 08/26/2018:

The bonus is also not available to you if you:

(3) are a current cardmember, or were a previous cardmember within the last 30 days, of the Starwood Preferred Guest® credit card;

(4) are a current or previous cardmember of either the Starwood Preferred Guest® Business or the Starwood Preferred Guest® Luxury credit card, and received a new cardmember bonus or upgrade bonus in the last 24 months; or

(5) applied and were approved for the Starwood Preferred Guest credit card, Starwood Preferred Guest Business credit card, or Starwood Preferred Guest Luxury credit card within the last 90 days.
There’s some debate whether this means you won’t get the bonus even if you apply for the Marriott Biz before 8/26/18, if you don’t meet the MSR and trigger the bonus until after 8/26/18 – in other words, whether these new restrictions would apply to whether you get the bonus after 8/26/18.

I don't think that's right.
This is not how offers traditionally attach to new card signups. If you apply for the card before 8/26/18, restrictions (1) and (2) should apply, then if you read on in the offer terms, "[t]o qualify and receive your bonus, you must make Purchases totaling $3,000 or more during the first 3 months from account opening." Chase can't just approve you for the card, give you 3 months to meet MSR, but then tell you, oh you don't get the bonus because the terms changed during those 3 months, you should have known because we posted it on the application page, you should have spent faster. I'd file a CFPB complaint so fast against Chase if that agency even has any teeth left.

Take for example the new Amex SPG Biz offer with 100k Marriott points. Under the new restrictions set to take effect on 8/26, you aren't eligible for it if you have or had the Marriott Biz in the last 30 days, or opened a Marriott personal card from Chase in the last 90 days, or received a welcome bonus from a Marriott personal card in the last 24 months. But a Redditor on r/churning "confirmed with an [Amex] CSR that as long as you apply and are approved (and of course never had the specific SPG card), you are eligible for the welcome bonus for the SPG Biz or personal." In other words, as long as you have never had the SPG Biz before, apply and are approved before August 26th, you would be eligible for any current offer regardless of what Chase cards or bonuses you have or had. If, as most people think, Marriott is the one pushing these restrictions on Chase and Amex, whether you qualify for a Chase bonus after 8/26 should be handled similarly to how Amex is handling it.

All that said, of course, the safest thing to do would probably be to apply for and meet the $3k MSR on the Marriott Biz before 8/26 if you can.
