I love credit cards so much!

I agree it's horrible.

I've had DH transfer his Marriott points to me so that I can redeem for travel packages and it was instant. Required a phone call by him though.
I'll try that first. I'm also going to try book the elusive 5 night package.

Yeah, I didn't really read it when I posted it, just skimmed. My it's complicated. Sounds like if you want miles some airlines go for the current packages and worry about what they do with the hotel cert later. But since they still kept categories I'm guessing they'll remap current certs to the new cats. And on other airlines maybe it's better to wait to get the increased miles? Lot's of math going on. Somehow they simplified it but made it more complex at the same time :)

And in more depressing news from DoC, a comment from one of the Hyatt CC announcements regarding 5/24 rule rolling out eventually to cards not current subject to 5/24 now:

Hyatt’s card doesn’t get too much love here, probably because like @SouthFayetteFan suggested there’s like 4 Hilton cards, 6 Starriott card’s, but only 1 Hyatt card, so how are we supposed to build a sizeable stash from a signup bonus on just one card?

Chase & Hyatt Launch New Co-Branded Credit Card – 60,000 Point Bonus!

I see the new Hyatt card announced today contains the one card, one bonus per 24 months per card family language that’s making its way into all of Chase’s product lines:
  • The product is not available to either (i) current Cardmembers of any Hyatt Credit Card, or (ii) previous Cardmembers of any Hyatt Credit Card who received a new Cardmember bonus within the last 24 months.

ETA: Don't worry about it....hotel not "large" family friendly it seems. o_O On to figure out somewhere else to redeem a package before the increase...

If you find a 'large' family friendly resort, do share. This is always our conundrum, and why I keep holding back on buying a nights & flights package. We need two rooms everywhere. We are long past smuggling in a baby lol!

I've read that unless you're a MVC timeshare owner, the 5 nt packages are not available to you, but some have been able to finagle their way somehow. Good luck!

Anyone doing this? I just opened the accounts and transferred $200 from my discover account to the cash account. Do I need to deposit into the investing account too? Idk how investing works I just do automatic transfers to a target date fund through Vanguard lol
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for pointing this out.

I completely skipped over this when I skimmed this morning! I signed up, took a break from work and assisted 3 family members. Texted my other one, texted my best friend (who I really hope does this, she loses her job next week and could really use the cash but tends to be scared of bank stuff). I've basically told my entire orbit (which is admittedly small) so anyone else on here who wants it better grab this baby asap ;)

I funded $200 to each but now I realize that was totally unnecessary. For everyone else I helped they just chose to fund $200 to the checking account.

That was the easiest opening ever. 10 mins start to login created and account funded. It was 5 mins for the fam members who were current Fidelity customers (have IRAs). I even failed an id verification q (fam member we do not communicate with, I know what state they're in but no idea what city) and Fidelity gave me a 2nd chance at a new q! So. Easy.

I would honestly consider giving Hyatt more love if Chase wasn't issuing. Chase shutdown potential too high for me, and that minor 5/24 detail...

Has anybody seen the new info on a new Hyatt card? https://thepointsguy.com/news/hyatt-revamps-co-branded-credit-card/ Looks like a great sign up bonus and earnings for those who might like Hyatt.

Reading through the Hyatt stuff changes things. For me it's a keeper card, I'll be using the free night over Labor Day weekend and it's going to be a great return on my AF. I got the card last year March/April and the bonus in June. With only offering 2k in points to upgrade I don't know if it's worth it vs waiting, cancelling and reapplying next July (once I see when I got the bonus). If I did this I would lose out on my anniversary night though right? Or do I wait for it to hit and then cancel like you all do with SW points? I'm guessing it's not the same though.

This wasn't a card I was going to churn but upgrading doesn't seem worthwhile. Now if they'd come out with a biz card...

Off to my interview in a few minutes. They called and moved it up an hour this morning.

Almost all of our money is with Fidelity. A rollover IRA (mine), traditional IRA (dh) and then two other accounts that show as Joint WROS, call me an idiot, but I am not sure how to tell what kind of accounts these are. I know they are taxable and one does actually have the word brokerage on the statement, so I assume this counts me out for this deal?

I've attempted twice now to transfer DH's SPG points to me via the website and it hasn't worked. I was trying to avoid having him call, but I've lost confidence in the online transfers.

That's disappointing. I think when I do it, I'll just transfer DH's SPG points to his Marriott account first, then have him call Marriott to transfer them to me for the travel package. You have to be clear with them that it's for the travel package because then there isn't the 50K annual cap that Marriott normally applies to transfers.

Wow, this does seem worse than I expected. With Swan and Dolphin moving to new category 6, does that exclude it from the fifth night free?

I expect the fifth night free to stay no matter the hotel category.

AFAIK, Marriott doesn't have any category restrictions on the 5th night free benefit. So I don't expect that to be a problem in the new program. You should be able to do that still.

I guess this may be because I've never really stayed at any of the higher end Marriotts/Starwoods, but I'm actually happy with some of the changes I'm seeing. Several of the Marriotts I've used for horse show hotels have dropped in valuation. The Marriott near Universal in Orlando has also gone down 5,000 (still overpriced for point valuation, but whatever). I have 7 Marriott stays booked this year and everything has stayed the same or dropped except for the NY Marriott Marquis and a Fairfield in near IAD, which I'll stay at before the point increase.

I haven't spent a ton of time looking at them, but of the ones I glanced at, the theme seems to be a decrease in the secondary properties (like where my DH would stay overnight in podunk TN for work) and an overall increase at resort and many full service type properties. I am sure there are exceptions, that is just what I noticed looking at specific places I had on my radar. I am guessing overall popularity of the properties also factored into it....supply/demand.

I thought I would get lucky for spring break with the baby smuggling, b/c dd19 is doing her own thing with her sorority, so we are down a kid for this trip. Will keep you posted. :) Do you like beach places? That hilton sandestin has nice family suites I posted about in our dishotels thread. I redeem points for them too!

Yes, thank you! Since we already had fidelity accounts (rollover IRAs) it took less than 5 mins each to open the new ones for the bonuses. About to drag DD19 in there to do one for her too.

I'm seeing Marriott and Starwood's timeshare properties showing up on the newly revamped hotel category list with points as redemptions. I wonder if these will actually be bookable awards? I'm not finding award availability on either the Marriott or Starwood websites just spot-checking random properties and dates. If not bookable as awards, why are they even on the hotel category list?

I'm just reading about this Fidelity account... is this as easy as it appears to be? I literally just open the two accounts, transfer in $200, and they give me $200? Can I do this for myself and for DH?

That's what I'm noticing too. I stay at a lot of those more off the beaten path type properties and they're all either holding steady or decreasing. Which works out well for me, because I can take the points saved at those and turn around and put it towards the increased resorts!

In the last 6 months I have checked a few of those for us and they never show as avail for me either...unless using URs instead.

Yeah, 5 nights packages are for Marriott timeshare owners only, but it’s not hard coded into their system, so the folks on churning are HUCA 20x in hopes of getting a rep who doesn’t know this and will sell them 5 nights.

How do you fund these accounts so fast? I'm still waiting on Ally and Chase to verify Memory Bank...going on 3 days now...

Ok, thanks. I need to stop reading random articles and just come here! Although I don't know why I even asked because I highly doubt I'm going to pay 50,000 points per night to stay at the Swan or Dolphin.

Love beach places! But sadly, no Hilton points. Sounds like those need to be the cards I focus on. I was planning to go for more Marriott/SPG but not liking all the news today.
