I love credit cards so much!

Well, I've never seen her credit report but I'm going to say bad credit. I know she had some medical bills that weren't paid as she told me. She has some credit history, had financed a car before but that had quite a bit of late payments.

She may need to start with a secured card to improve her credit and then work her way up.

AF was due on the Amex Personal Plat card. I called to see about a retention offer. This is my 2nd Amex Personal Plat card that I got last year when there was a 60K offer with no once per lifetime verbiage. I had used it over the year when MPX was coding 5x on it so there was a history of spend beyond the MSR for the bonus. I was also planning to keep it and add DH and my mom as AUs on the card. My first offer was an instant $75 statement credit, then spend $1,000 over 3 months for an additional $75 statement credit. $150 for spending $1,000 ... meh. The second offer was 5,000 MR right away and then spend $3,000 in 3 months for an additional 15,000 MR. 20,000 MR that can go towards the next bit of travel insanity whim I decide to try ... Yes please! It's not a great retention offer but nice for a card I was keeping anyhow and an MSR I can make happen and stack with some Amex offers I have sitting in the account. I'm calling that a win for the day!

Did you mention a side hustle? Sounds like DSIL needs a business card.

Daughter has all that covered. He just uses whatever card she gives him. She's the one who was going to the Amex office every week (before they stopped it) and buying travelers checks and depositing them back into her account. She also was doing the order dollar coins and then deposit them thing. That was back prior to 2007 when she bought her first house. She is the poster child for having to write explanation letters for credit card accounts and multiple transactions when she got that mortgage. The next mortgage was a little easier as she understood to clean up a year or so beforehand. She also likes the high end cards. Couldn't resist the MB Plat before they discontinued it. The first home is its own little business - rented out. Now me - I'm just sitting collecting a few hotel points here and there....she's on it as far as the spends go - now all organic.

Decisions....Decisions....

Currently working towards 12k of MSRs on CIP (DW), PRG, and Marriott - about $8.5k left to go on all of those.

Tempted by AX Delta 60k offer with $1k spend, and just received an email from Amex to upgrade my recently downgraded AX Hilton for 75k miles with $2k spend (would be the 3rd time I have done this).

Then of course, there is the usual 5/25 considerations. Does Chase count the CIP when calculating 5/25 for personal cards? I'm thinking I might want to jump on the 60k Delta for P2, but might have to reconsider if the CIP will count against 5/25 as this might jeopardize plans for a Sapphire Double Dip in the fall.

I just finished hanging a new led mirror in my bathroom. Stand back and admire my excellent handiwork as it looks perfect hanging on the wall, and will actually light up when the electrician makes time to get to me! (He is the side hustle electrician who works with my son in law on some of those weekend jobs.) Looked a little cloudy. Called daughter to come look in it. She says the same thing.

Soon the mystery is solved. There is a layer of fine film on it, so tight and almost impossible to see except one little edge had a slight bubble!

Now I'm tempted to take a sledge hammer to the tub tile......it's almost ten years old and I've gone from loved it to wish it were gone! It's not awful, I just now want a complete update before I finish off by painting the room. I did replace the vanity in the last two weeks. You could say I'm doing a piece meal remodeling job, spurred on by one of our board members posting some pictures of her renovated bathroom. I'm not sure I want to mess with a tile job as I've never done it before, but with a few you tube videos you never know. As a retiree I've got time on my hands!

The CIP doesn't technically count towards 5/24, BUT you have to be under to get it (which you did), AND they can see it when you app for a personal so the CL counts towards you total chase CL as well as you want to consider it when evaluating chase shutdown risk.

I DIY anything and everything...with youtube as my apprentice. Or rather, I am youtube's apprentice. I have alot of fun research how to do new things and then taking it on and then inevitably problem solving whatever issue I run into. This week I have spliced into our irrigation to add on drip lines for the porch plants and am in the middle of adding board and batten wainscoting to the stairway. You'd think I don't have enough to keep me busy with 4 kids, but I just love learning new skills.

Watching Anthony Bourdain (RIP) with DH and it's an episode where he's in Japan. At one point they had a shot of an ANA plane and I told DH that's probably what we were going to fly to Japan when we go. He was asking me about the flight and I told him it would likely be the best point valuation for us in terms of flying business or first class there since it's about a 16 hour flight. His response- "yeah, no way I'm sitting in economy that long."

Yeah, what do you think I've been accumulating all these credit cards for

Two more days until vacation! 7 nights in Punta Cana! Free flights but we paid for the hotel since we get a loyalty discount and free shuttle. $1500 for 2 adults and 1 child in their luxury oceanfront resort so I am not complaining. DH decided we should tack on a short trip to OCMD when we return on Wed to BWI so I booked an oceanfront room with Choice Privilege points. Now to pack! I have to make sure I bring all of our stuff for the ocean plus enough clothes for 11 nights. And DS asked me if I could cancel Punta Cana since he is missing the last 3 days of school which are the “fun” days. Um, no, momma needs to a vacation!

I am over 100 pages behind so will have to catch up when I get back in a few days but I posed this over on the Pop info thread but thought I would check here too...

Anyone at Pop right now and want a free case of water? It’s a 24 pack 16.9oz bottles still shrink wrapped from Prime Now. Send me a PM. Would need to be picked up tonight or tomorrow at building 5. We only drank three of the four cases.

Crosspost that I just put on churning - but here's a datapoint

DP: logged in to Amex a minute ago to check my spending. Hit the MSR on the Delta Gold 60k/1k about 4 days ago. Noticed the 60k miles posted sometime overnight.

I had this card previously. Used a targeted mailer to get the bonus again. I had the card (and got bonus) within the last 3 years.

I didn't like Swagbucks either, which kills me because that seems to be offering the best deal on Disney Gift Cards through Best Buy right now.
It really is a nice deal. I’d abandoned SB for anything short of the big deals DoC posts because it was way too much work but this BB deal- I’ve gotten a few thousand in Disney gift cards for approx 16% off so far over the last few months. I keep thinking I’ll get shutdown any day now by SB (or heck even Best Buy- I’m an “Elite Plus” BB customer now :rotfl2:) but until then I’ll just keep chugging away... (for those thinking about this do know SB can shut you down for no reason at any time, kinda like Chase except you can’t plead a case for reinstatement & any points in your account are forfeited).

If she can’t get a credit card she can try to start rebuilding her credit with a secured credit card.
