anyone who was looking at opening day on SW last week....check flights today. Remember those dec LAX flights I wouldn't pay 12k+ points one way for...well more like 8500 today. Pretty much all of fall is 8500. Thanks Kohls...errr, I mean SW.:sad2:
Ya.....Checked mine...more points than I used...but the flights are around the holidays flying my son from MCO to ISP

I am safe to app for my next amex whenever I am ready right? I may wait a couple weeks so we can knock out more of DH's Hilton biz MSR first, but that is my next card too.

Lots of information you are asking for here and I don't mind sharing, but will need to respond later this evening with more details. In short, I have been over 5/24 for sometime and haven't been involved with Chase credit cards since 2015. I opened a Chase checking and savings in 2017 for the bonus, but closed those earlier this year. They only closed my business card and not my personal cards. All of my spend was organic. I'm anxious to receive the letter and see if it gives any further information. I plan on pleading my case.

ahh, im glad to hear it is just your business card but sad your CIP got shut down. This is def not a bustout shutdown. The questions i asked is not gonna help in this case. On to why you got shut down on the business end, i have no idea.
ill ask my channels and see what i come up with.

Y'all, oh my goodness...I'm done. I finally finished the spend on the spg biz. My mortgage went through plastiq again. I actually went way over since I was only $1400 away now and my mortgage is $2200. I don't care though. Huge sigh of relief!! Now to finish the spg personal. I only need $1000! And then...then...gasp...I do not have a MSR anywhere. What to do?? I think I'll wait until we get back from our trip and then apply again for my dh the CIC. If he gets denied again, I'm entering a deep state of depression and y'all will have to pull me out lol.

I'm a few pages behind but wanted to say congrats for meeting the MSR, woohoo!! So glad Plastiq is still working for our mortgage company :)

So glad you found a better option for your DL trip! Way to go @Angrose!

I'm so sorry. Please keep us updated! We'll try to figure this out.

There's a Shutdown Reports Megathread on /r/churning that asks about the factors that may have led to a shutdown.

There's also hope that you can plead your case with Chase and they'll reinstate your accounts. See https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/8nh7l4/_/dzwibaz/?context=3 I've seen several DPs of accounts being reinstated after you explain, basically, you're opening new cards for their different benefits and bonuses; not because you're a "bust out" risk. You have 30 days to redeem or move any points from the affected card(s), so don't do anything rash and try to get your card(s) reopened first.

I decided to look through the Shutdown Megathread finally since you linked it and I feel so much better about myself. But how can some of those people be surprised? I know not all are, but I think I saw someone with 16 CC's in the last 12 months plus 2 loans... with AAoA of like less than 5 years or something like that. Yeah, that doesn't raise a red flag anywhere.

I got hit with a Chase shutdown today. They approved me for the CIP on May 13 and I am about $2K into my $5K MSR. I logged into my account this morning and they have closed my account. I called and they wouldn't give me any information other than I will receive a letter that will provide more explanation. When I applied, I was at 4/24 and hadn't opened a Chase card since 2015. They did look at my personal Disney and IHG cards and they are both still open. I don't understand why they would approve me for the card and then close it down a couple of weeks later. I'll post more info from the letter once I receive it.

So frustrated.....

This is not characteristic of the Chase Shutdowns we have been monitoring. Typically that would result in a complete shutdown of all accounts - so I’m honestly not sure what the circumstances are here. It almost sounds like that account alone missed the mark on some sort of verification post-approval. I wish you luck in reinstating your account!

I didn't have any luck either. My Christmas week flights are still higher than I prefer, but I did book last week just so I had something.

Mine haven't changed at all. One of the other flight options from BDL-SNA is actually a few dollars higher.

- Don’t cycle credit limits with Amex. That’s when you pay off your balance before the statement posts so you can open up credit availability to spend more on that card. (A lot of churners did this to buy VGCs, liquidate as MOs, pay off the balance, rinse, repeat. This can trigger a shutdown and financial review.)

ETA: Forgot to respond to this before, oops. So are you saying I should not do my method of paying on my card every two weeks on pay day? That's just how I've always paid on my cards. I can wait and pay it all when it's due if that's better on Amex.

Funny how quickly you can go from "oh no, how will I meet this spend" to "oh no, I don't have a MSR to work on"

Thats when you know you are in deep...

I suspect this will be me come September... but maybe not if a new SPG card comes out in August

We most likely will be flying with United/ANA. We will either be stopping in Denver or Chicago. I have seen both as options, but won't know for sure until we buy tickets. Looks like they are both Boeing planes. One is a 737 and the other is a 777, but not sure if this will stay the same for next May.

I will agree with @Albort and suggest you stick with international airlines if at all possible for a better seat and flight. Keep in mind that each plane even if the same type may have a different configuration. I’d suggest doing some mock bookings that get you as far as the seat map on the airlines’s website And comparing it to the different configurations for that plane type and route on seat guru. This may begin to give you a better idea.

That's where seatguru comes in. Even the same plane class can have different configurations, so not all 777's will have the same amount of seats. You'd want to take note of the flight number on the airline you're looking at and then look up that flight on seatguru and it'll tell you how the plane will look. It'll also give tips for good seat positions.
When I was looking at flights to Italy I picked the flight we took because they had the 2-4-2 layout and we could get in the "2" section. So we didn't have to worry about seat mates at least in our 8 hour non-stop economy flight :)
Yeah it would be nice not to have seat mates lol. I'll have to check, but Google flights doesn't actually have flights up yet for next May.

Always Always Always fly with international carrier. their services and planes are much better. Once you get the hang of this hobby, it will enable you to fly J class/F class more affordable. J class RT from west coast to Japan can cost as low as 95k Ultimate Rewards points! Keep racking up those points! One day, that goal will be in sight!

you may not have the choice here. 777 are great planes, i was more concern about the seating in economy. I know a lot of airlines have gone from 3-3-3 to 3-4-3 mainly in the 777s. most A380, B747, A350, B787 are mostly the same on all airlines, 777 are the only exception.

Example: EVA airways ~ 3-3-3 and 3-4-3
The flights I was looking at are United to Denver or Chicago and then they switch to ANA.

Is a 15+ hour flight to Tokyo going to be horrible in Economy?

Having flown to/from Asia three times in the recent past (all in economy!), I can say that it probably will not be horrible. I have found that it helps to bring back-up entertainment (those in-seat entertainment systems don't always work), back-up food (if the food provided is edible, that's a bonus), and hope but don't count on getting to sleep on the plane. They very worst traveling experience I had was a connecting flight from Beijing. Those extra hours, after a 13+ hour flight, really were horrible. Now, if I were doing it again, I would have spent a few days in Beijing before traveling anywhere else in China.

Forgot to say that we were together in a seating group of 3 on that long flight. DD was a nervous flyer up until that trip so she had the window ("Mom, that's the arctic! This is the most incredible thing ever!") and dh got the aisle because he's considerably taller and broader than I am. If I had been sitting between two strangers in the middle seat, in economy, on a long haul flight...:scared:
DH and I would take the window and middle seat so someone might have to sit on the aisle next to us.

ANA is an international airline right? I am 90% sure we will be flying with them from either Denver or Chicago to Japan.

Yes and I have read good reviews on their economy hard product but don’t recall which plane or route.

Now sure if this is a post for here or the SB board. So DH has received his CIP now we need to meet the spending min. I was going to pay our Disney vacation with it. Now i am wonder if it is better to buy disney gift cards with the card at best buy and get the sb bonus or if it is too much of a hassle. Do gift card purchases count towards minimum?

What about with the chase freedom, do gift card purchases at safeway get the 5% cash back?
