I love credit cards so much!

Well i just went to the disney gift card thread. Some are getting dis cards but others have posted about getting 30 dollar sams club card.
I just called Sams Club.com about negative reviews regarding their gift cards. She responded people don't follow directions o as you
have to go through the activation email or in your letter.

Yes, this is true. If you try to use your new Sam's card before clicking through the activation email, you will have problems. You have to be on the lookout for the email though. The first time I ordered, I didn't realize I had to activate from there (thought it was just another order confirmation). I believe you can also login to your Sam's Club account and activate from there too once you receive your cards.

I would really like to know what card I should start off with first? Is there a certain plan I should do?
So you want to go on a Disney cruise for free...you've come to the right place. Please consider joining our private Reddit group where we have documented some of the best tips and you can support other DISers. If you want to join that just send me @SouthFayetteFan a PM here on the DIS and I'll hook you up. We're going to advise you to focus on earning Chase Ultimate Rewards (URs) since they are easy to earn and easy to use! You can probably pay for an entire cruise with them if you get enough cards and have some time before you plan to go (i.e. like a year).

If you're open to business cards - I'd recommend a Chase Ink Preferred (CIP) as your first move as it's the best bonus out there right now! You can qualify for a business card pretty easily if you have a side job of any sort (sell on Ebay, sell cookies, teach piano, mow lawns, shovel driveway). I know some of that sounds ridiculous but it's true!

You would apply for this card as a sole proprietorship (Use your first name and last name as the business name and your SSN as the EIN). Here's how that bonus works:

Chase Ink Preferred (CIP)
  • Best Online Offer = 80,000 Ultimate Rewards (URs) for $5k spend in 90 days (there is an in branch offer for 100k - it requires some additional work to apply in branch to with a BRM). The 80k offer is available on DISchurners if you aren't planning to go in branch.
  • Annual fee = $95 (not waived)
  • Points are worth = 1.25 cents each through the travel portal OR transfer 1:1 to numerous partners
  • Assuming you'd use the 1.25 travel option here's what you get:
  • 80,000 bonus URs + 5,000 base URs (from min spend) = 85,000 URs worth $1,062.50 LESS $95 annual fee = $967.50
  • Also of note - you could hold these points, get a CSR after and then you can redeem these points at 1.50 via the CSR making it worth $1,180
This card as well as its friends the CSR (Chase Sapphire Reserve) and CSP (Chase Sapphire Preferred) earn Ultimate Rewards (URs) which are super awesome (flexible) points that can be used to pay for Disney Cruises, hotels, flights, transfer to Southwest, pay for On-Site Disney stays and packages, etc.

Thank you! I heard you all are great and helpful. I have applied to no credit cards. In fact paid off all of them years ago and now want to find ways to get my family on a vacation. heard this is a great way once you understand it. So her eis my plans:

Disney cruise, LAX or San Diego are the two closest. Any advice I'm all ears.

You can book a DISNEY cruise by calling the Chase Tours and Cruise department and using Chase Utlimate Rewards.

Do you have a “business”? It can be anything such as selling on eBay, tutoring, pet/babysitting? Really, anything you do on the side that brings in any money.

If you have a business I’d recommend the Chase Ink Preferred. That has a 80,000 UR signup bonus. That’s $1,000 in travel towards your cruise. If you aren’t comfortable with a business I’d recommend the CSP/CSR. If you want both you have to apply for them on the same day. They each come with 50,000 UR for 4k in spend. If 8k in spend is too much for you we can help you learn to manufacture spend that amount.

Also, if you have a partner you can refer them to these cards at well. If you each get these three cards you will have 400,000 UR points.

Thanks @WDWRook - I was just reading your post about when you'd called :) I saw that they tried to steer you away from booking yourself and then transferring, so I wonder what they'll say when I tell them we've had our reservations for two months...

Since I plan on calling, does anyone have any Disney Cruise questions they'd like me to try and ask?

My main goals tonight are
  • Finding out if I can still transfer our reservations over to Chase, or if I need to cancel and rebook
  • To make sure I could book something in MILs name
  • See what they say about paying with gift cards...
This weekend DH brought up a good alternative to my plan of applying all of those points to the ILs cruise, which would be to instead use them to cover their flights, hotels, etc (especially as we'd like to take them to Epcot and Kennedy Space Center before the cruise). Decisions, decisions... But I still want to ask all of my questions, because now I have an idea for the approximately $1400 in UR points we should earn from the CIP sign up... ;)

I'm curious to know what they say about paying partially with UR and partially with gift cards. We always book through Costco to get the cash card. Its roughly 8% of cruise fare, and I would have a hard time giving that up. But its an interesting idea if they let you pay part with gift cards.

On May 10 (last Thursday) I was approved for the CIP. Said it would be sent in 7-10 business days. I didn’t call to expedite it. Is it too late to do that? Is there a charge to expedite shipping? I want to start earning those points!

Hello again everyone!

I've been reading this thread as much as possible, but I always have a hard time keeping up! I have a question about Chase UR Refer-A-Friend bonuses. I shared my CF referral link near the end of March, and never noticed the 10,000 bonus points in my account. I sent a SM to Chase and they said that it is shown on my April 11 statement. Great! However, when I go into the UR website I can't find any notation of these 10,000 points. So now I'm confused. I sent another SM to Chase, and the response I got was:

"The referral bonus points will be added to the Ultimate Rewards website. However, it will not show up as Refer-A-Friend bonus on the website."

Can someone please explain this to me in a way that makes more sense? How long does it take for referral points to show up in your account? When I look at the Rewards Breakdown, there is an orange category for Bonus from Refer-A-Friend Offers that is currently $0.00. Shouldn't that be where the bonus appears?

I think when you leave a job you can roll over to an IRA. Does your current plan have a low expense ratio? I think if it’s low it would make sense to roll it over to your current plan. I’m not an expert but I lurk on the FIRE Reddit thread. If you post in the daily question thread there I’m sure someone could help you out.

Thanks for this. We definitely could have rolled over the old IRAs but just didn't then, and it's been many years since either of us has changed jobs. I have some IRAs that have been sitting where I left them for more than 20 years . . . there's not a lot of money in them but now that my youngest is finishing his next-to-last year of college, the next financial issue to get control over is the retirement accounts. Neither DH nor I have any desire to retire early -- we both actually really like our jobs (most days). Our current accounts (the ones we are currently paying into) do have low-fee options -- DH has TIAA-CREF and I have Transamerica. We want to increase our contributions (we pay slightly more than what we need to to get our employers' match, but we are far from maxing them out) and I'm thinking about whether we should add the extra funds to the employers' companies or Vanguard. All of my kids have Roth IRAs with Vanguard and I spent some time on the Bogleheads website several years ago, but most of it was beyond my very-beginner comprehension level. I need a Bogleheads for Dummies website :)

Did anyone get the $50 rebate for spending $250 at Costco online and paying with Visa checkout? I bought $250 in gift cards, but they were out of stock when I placed the order. It didn't post on my credit card until it shipped on April 8th. I had almost forgotten about it. Suppose I should follow up . . .

Call and try. They don't charge.

Not yet. They have another week or 2 before it needs to post I think. I check the last comments on the SD thread to see if it's posting for anyone every once in a while https://slickdeals.net/f/11413007-c...0-credit-w-visa-checkout?page=100#commentsBox

I don’t believe the credits have hit yet. I think we’re at 7 weeks.

Depends on whether you have a spouse who is interested in applying for cards to. If it's just you, you'll want to wait 2-3 months. If you're in "2 player" mode which is what we call it when you have 2 spouses both getting cards, then you can go for cards every 2 months for a little while initially with no issues.
