Anyone who's done AS award flights: what is the probability that @disneymagicgirl will be able to find 6 RT tickets to HI at saver rates? Is AS known for releasing a decent amount of award availability at the saver level? I don't have any experience with this but am concerned here that it might be very hard to find that many saver tickets on the same flight.

I think if she flies out of SFO or LAX, it can be difficult; but she can search for award flights out of less trafficked airports like SEA, SJC, or PDX?

I have a question about booking. I would like to fly our family of four to Sydney, Australia in June, 2019, and I would like to use United's Excursionist perk to add on New Zealand. The trip would be a minimum of 14 days. I know I should start looking for flights at 330 days out. My question is...in order to use the Excursionist perk, do I need to book round-trip. If so, do I need to wait until the day our return flights are released and hope that the outbound flights haven't booked before then. We have plenty of United and UR miles to get us there if we can find saver fares. Thanks!!

Alaska Card would probably the best to go for ur situation. i have also read a hack on how to use ur UR Points on Alaska too, so 1.5x redemptions + companion pass. the u just need 2 tickets if u do 2 alaska cards by using the miles earned.

But just throwing it out there, there are a ton of beaches closer, ie bahamas, aruba, exuma, etc. have u considered those at all? much closer and sw flies there.

Yes we have looked at those. DH has been wanting to go back to Hawaii for years and his 40th is this year so I was trying to make it happen for him. Tbh, I’m sure it is lovely but not sure it is worth the long travel time.

as someone who searched from lax, the most available were from SFO and SEA.

i think SEA showed up on KE website. was a 15 hour journey from lax though.

Yikes! 15hrs!?
I have found the most (today anyways) out of SFO and SEA as well.

Have you looked at Korean on Delta Metal? Could you drive to Atlanta?

What are your dates?

I don’t have any specifically. Was basically searching for good award flights and then looking for hotel availability around that.

Looking at summer (middle of July-middle of August), thanksgiving + week before or after, or after Christmas.

We could drive to Atlanta, but that would be additional travel on top of flying across the country and then across an ocean. I would like to have an overnight layover on the west coast to break it up for DD2. Alaska airlines has those built in on the flights I was looking at.

I was able to find Atl to OGG Dec 3 - Dec 9. on KE... it's not the overnight you want but it is 25K points.

If you look on the Delta website, when you are searching for award flight make sure you select Delta Only, that will help you find availability on KE.

A question for anyone who has had a Marriott credit card since Jan-April 2016:

In 2017 did you receive your 15 elite night credits on your anniversary?

In 2018 did you receive your 15 elite night credits on your anniversary? If so, did it add to your rollover nights from 2017 so that you have more than 15 nights currently? Or did the 2017 15 night credits expire once you received your 2018 15 nights credit?

This woke me up at 1AM and kept me up for an hour last night. o_O

Your rollover nights won't expire because that goes by calendar year. You'll see all your 2017 rollover nights in it's own line item in your points details. If you got the 2018 elite night credit, that would show in a separate line in the details section. Assuming you didn't use all of them to make Gold in 2017, only 5 of the 15 would rollover to 2018.

@disneymagicgirl This is kind of why I had to back burn Hawaii too. The complication (and huge use of points) of trying to get six people on the same flight and needing two rooms just overwhelmed me. I think if SW had their flights going, it'd be easier but that may just my thinking and that I know SW really well.

I think flying other airlines can be a stumbling block for us SW loyal fans, lol! I look at some of these other flights and I'm just lost. Why don't the points tie to the prices??? Why can't I just book any flight?? LOL! :rotfl2: Oh screw it...I'll just cash out for some Target gift cards and fly Southwest, haha :rotfl:

Ok thank you! I will check it out. We need 10-14 days and have to work around college scheduling for our oldest. Thx for the tip!

I keep thinking the same about SW. maybe I should wait til they start their flights.

YES! The flights are overwhelming me the most. SW just needs to hurry up. It's such an uncomplicated process with SW, from booking to boarding, I struggle with any other airline.

I'm just waiting. For us, there is no rush to get to Hawaii...it is a LONG flight for fidgety boys...so allowing my boys to get a bit older is alright with me :) And really, SW should be starting up by the end of this year so the wait should not be much longer.

Anyone else tempted by FD'ing today? We don't ever do FD'ing even though we travel at FD'ing times because we aren't big eaters and do much better paying OOP. But the temptation was so strong today. We are not planning to go to WDW this year so I think that is the only thing that held me back. I get all caught up in everyone else's excitement over FD'ing even though I know the numbers don't really work for us o_O I think, in reality, I just want to carry around a resort mug and feel like everyone else...

Just pulled the trigger on a Hilton Redemption for our Sea World trip in the fall. We are staying at a Homewood Suites for 30k points per night (3 nights). I had 120,000 Hilton Points that I was trying to use up. We used 90,000 points for out stay. We are coordinating this trip with my parents and they were just going to pay cash.

I also have some AMEX MRs that I'd earned since I cancelled my Schwab Plat so I likely would've redeemed them for gift cards. I did the math and realized I could transfer 30k MRs to 60k Hilton and I'd have enough to book the room for my parents too. My dad and I have done this before (I book with points then he pays me the cash). The value came out to about 1.23cpp so that is certainly better than 1cpp for a Home Depot GC, lol. FYI - the transfer happened in less than 20 minutes so that was great! Then I decided that most of these points came from r/churning clicks sooooo why not just cover their room. So I told him we'd do that!
