Ugh my life insurance payment only takes checks or money orders? Anyway to get a money order with my spg amex without pissing off the rat team? I’d be pretty annoyed if they didn’t give me my bonus, I’ve been an amex cardholder since 2001 (old lol).

Also I decided that with all of the devaluations going on this week, I’m just gonna burn a big chunk of my ur on our disney ticket for the summer. I’m sitting on 400k ur and I’m gonna use 87,000 on 7 day myw tickets for this summer. I’m now aiming for a less than 1k disney trip- flights courtesy of rapid rewards points, 7 nights at the poly funded by bank account bonuses, tickets from ur, food from gift cards from swag bucks, disney visa rewards and grow up young.

I just did the same thing but only 3 days, staying at POR, tickets bought using Citi thank you points and flights using SW gift cards and chase UR.. too many devaluations so might as well burn some points on what makes me happy-Disney!

How did you use the Citi TY points? Their portal? I’ve only accumulated a few but just got another promor from them for 10k bonus points. Ideas welcome.

Yes. This is definitely my plan with United. I would clearly do better transferring SPG to Marriott to convert. And the hotel + flight will get me more United miles than converting from Marriott directly into United, so I'm better off doing it that way even if I don't need the hotel certificate. And hopefully we'd find a use for the hotel cert within a year (or maybe Marriott would even extend its expiration date given some other DPs posted here). Ugh!! I just need a crystal ball. It wouldn't be my first choice for use of my SPG and Marriott points, but I don't want to lose the option either.

I bit the bullet and transferred both of our SPG points over to Marriott so we could book the hotel and flight packages. There was a 29 minute wait to speak with an agent at the hotel/flight package booking line. When I told her I wanted to transfer to AS, she said, "Wow, Alaska must be having a sale or something. Everyone is calling and booking AS flight and hotel packages. It's been crazy the last two days" :rotfl2:

We each booked a Package 1 Hotel and flights for 270K and 7 night cat 1-5 certificates. This gets us 120,000 AS miles each. A straight 90,000 SPG transfer to airlines would have given us 110,000 points so we come ahead this way in airline miles, plus have two certificates for 7 nights that I likely won't use for a cat 1-5 Marriott even if I could find one located wherever I want to go. However, I do have enough points left to upgrade to a cat 9, if and when I find someplace I would want to stay for a week. So, that is not so bad.

Hopefully, the rumors come to nothing. If so, I'll continue collecting SPG points and be happy we have a nice little stash of AS miles and 14 nights of Marriott that I have no idea what to do with. If the sky falls, I'll still be in the same boat, but I won't be collecting SPG points.

You and me both, except substitute United for Alaska for me, lol! Good thought about potentially trying to upgrade that certificate. If the sky doesn’t fall, I might keep collecting SPG/Marriott points to try to do that. And I also had a long wait on hold to get my package booked this morning...

DP reporting that paying federal taxes through pay1040 .com with SPG Biz did not earn Starpoints or count towards MSR: https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/8b6hmv/daily_discussion_thread_april_10_2018/dx59sek/

I'm self-employed, so I don't have any withholding which results in a large tax bill. I just started paying this bill via credit card in 2017 and haven't had any problems using CSP and Fidelity Visa so far. I got the Amex SPG business card for both me and my wife with the intent of meeting the spend by paying this tax bill.

On April 1, I paid $6,000 on my SPG, $7,000 on my wife's SPG, and $1,500 via Paypal on Chase Freedom. Within a couple of days, the Starpoints posted to my account and the Chase Freedom Q2 bonus points were reflected as well.

However, the points to my wife's SPG have still not posted. I had about $1,000 organic spend on my card, but this was the first charge to her card. In hindsight, I may have raised a red flag when the very first charge to her card was an even $7,000. I didn't think it would be an issue because the fee also posts to that card.

This is a legit expense, so they are going to get quite an argument from me if these points don't post by my next statement.

So... if you have any other way to meet the MSR I’d start doing it right now (if you aren’t already). Amex is known to be horrible about bonuses when they don’t award automatically & even if you should be in the right you aren’t if they say you aren’t. It’s how they work, their T&Cs are very nasty towards you about this sort of thing. If they determine at their sole discretion you tried to game their system they can deny you the bonus- literally it’s right there in their T&Cs. (What is “gaming the system”? Anything they say it is. See “sole discretion”.) I’m just trying to warn you that literally no matter how valid your argument, or how angry you get, it might not be good enough for Amex. I’d move heaven & earth to meet that spend more organically in whatever time you have left. I’ve seen DPs on some people getting the points they’re owed 6 months later after LOTS of fighting with Amex- but that’ll be a bit of hat trick if the SPG points you earned don’t even exist anymore at that time.

I'm an amateur at this, but maybe someone here can help me understand the probably very asked SW companion pass question? I don't think I'll hit 110,000 points on SW this year. I think I'll end the 2018 year at about 80k points on my rapid rewards account. So I'll go into 2019 with 80k and my question is if I earn 30k during next year 2019, and add that to my 80k I'll have could that get the companion pass during 2019, OR will SW say no you didn't earn it ALL in one calendar year? Does it all have to be earned in one calendar year, or can you have a balance like I described and then earn the rest when another year rolls over? This is a little confusing to me. Thank you!

You need to earn it all in one calendar year. Then, you get the pass for the remainder of the year you earned it in plus the next complete year, so the rest of 2018 and all of 2019. So, you may want to look and see if you can get another Southwest credit card bonus - assuming you got most of your present points with one? Good luck!

It has to be earned in the same calendar year. How did you get those 80k southwest points? If you don’t have the Southwest Business credit card I’d open up that. You would be eligible for that if you haven’t gotten the bonus in the last 24 months, you have no credit card applications in the last 30 days, and if you have less than 5 credit card applications in the last 24 months. The card will give you 60k points after spending 3k in 3 months and then you will have the companion pass for the rest of 2018 and 2019.

@Budzooka I would just echo and reinforce what @gottalovepluto said above. I have gone the rounds with Amex on trying to get a bonus to post. It was also completely legitimate spending but it didn’t matter. Dealilng with Amex is beyond frustrating as they are the ones in control. Good luck.

Have you taken the flight? You only get the 10% back after you have taken the flight booked with points.
ohhhhhh is that it? ok then it's gonna be awhile for me to get those points back lol

Ladies, Gentlemen, boys and girls of the "I love credit cards so much" thread...today is a momentous day. A day 24 months in the making! Today is the day that 730+ days of patience pays off because today is the day that we (my wife) were APPROVED for a CHASE INK PREFERRED!!!! :cool1::banana::bounce::music::woohoo:::yes:::D

To a 4 year+ churner...this is one of my proudest churning moments. I'm so glad to be back in the Chase game!

EDIT: hilarious fact...the Chase Ink Preferred card didn't even exist when we put a halt to my wife's applications to get back under 5/24, LOL! :rotfl2:

I was filling DH in on all of the SPG scariness last night, and was explaining the nights and flights option. It's such an amazing deal if you can/want to stay in one place for 7 nights (we never have). We weren't planning on doing a long international trip this year, and aren't really in a position to do so because of shakeups at DH's job. But nervousness about the future of my SPG points set in, so I started Googling hotels in various categories to get some ideas. I had a very strong urge to just turn in all of our points for AS miles and a Cat 9 certificate, and book a stay at the JW Marriott in Venice. It's on its own private island!!! I snapped out of it and didn't make a move, but I was sooooo tempted at midnight last night.
