This week has been crazy as we're prepping for an 8 day spring break trip at the World and will be flying out early Friday morning. I'm so excited to be going, but at the same time I'm worried about how far behind I will fall on this thread. Maybe I do have a problem. :rolleyes1

Dipping my toes into the bank bonus waters isn't going exactly the way I pictured it so far. Last week I went ahead and opened an Ally account to use as a hub. My original plan was to start with the Chase checking bonus, but I came across a Whitney/Hancock offer while browsing Doc's site. That one has no direct deposit requirement so it seemed a bit easier to try first. I used the link to get my promo code and applied online Friday. There's a Whitney local to me, but I figured I could save myself the time and just apply online. My application went pending, but I wasn't surprised since it was a Friday afternoon.

I received a phone call at my office yesterday from someone with Whitney asking if he could ask me a few verification questions. Sure, no problem. All he asked was whether or not I had applied for the account and if I had any other accounts with Whitney (which I do not). He thanked me and said I would receive notification of the accounts status soon. About 10 minutes later I received an email stating: Thank you for your application. We’re sorry, but we are unable to open an account online at this time. Please visit one of our convenient branches to apply. If you have questions, please contact us at 1-800-965-5626.

Not sure why this would be, as everything on my application was accurate. I'm wondering if I should hold off on Chase for now as well. I honestly wasn't expecting the application to be denied. Hmmmm.

Thanks to @Calfan and @Lain for the SM advice to Chase to get my "TRAVEL Study" bonus miles. They extended me the courtesy points but cautioned I wouldn't get them again. I guess I need to talk to the University. I'm always shocked that someone hasn't complained before when stuff like this comes up. Doesn't everybody do miles??? LOL.

On a different subject, we are trying to meet our minimum spends on our Amex SPG's and I was all excited because I just used it at Sur La Table on the Mileage Plus X for 4x United plus the 1x Starpoint. But then I started to panic ... I know there is a gift card issue with Amex and minimum spends. I hope that doesn't extend to the mileage plus app? Anyone had any problems with this? I could have gone through the BA portal for 8x, but I needed the pan today. Also, BA miles take forever to come through!

Weird. Have you called them in a Hail Mary to see what’s up? Also pull your Chex Systems report since you’ve been denied an account. This will tell you if there’s anything negative in your bank history that you may have forgotten/not known about. It takes a while to get the report via snail mail so maybe it will be there when you get back (it does contain sensitive info so make sure your mail is on hold or someone is picking it up though).

I just applied for the SPG Business card (using a DIS churners referral link), and got a message saying my application has been received. Is that normal or a bad sign? I'm used to immediate approvals!

ETA - I received an approval via email about 25 minutes after applying! Now to spend $7000...yikes.

If you need help with the 7k and want to try manufacture spending there is s thread on DISCHURNERS.

The bank could just be picky. Maybe try Discover savings. It’s free no direct deposit just have to transfer 20k into the account but you can use the same few k and just keep transferring in and out until you get the bonus.

Well you could call and see what's up, but since they're offering you to open in branch it doesn't sound completely dead. Since you're a first time customer, they may have a stricter ID verification process and prefer that to happen in person. Hopefully it's something silly like that.

I’m looking at flights on AA from YVR to ORD. The only nonstop is 11p-5a, not ideal for us. There are a couple flights with stops in Seattle for 2 hrs. I should be able to use the Priority Pass lounge(s) with a CSR, right? Anyone with knowledge of SEA? Would the lounge be located near where AA/AS flights are? I’m used to ORD which is huge and changing concourses is a pain. Not sure if a 2 hour layover would be sufficient to use a lounge. (FWIW I have never been in an airport lounge, ever. )

Decided Sunday night I wanted to sign up for TSA Pre Check...was able to get an appointment for yesterday (didn't work for me) or today. I had a 2p appointment and i was in and out in 5 minutes.
With CSR? Not interested in Global Entry?

I remember using an AS lounge (north satellite one I think) but I was on a first class AS ticket (I was lucky enough to be flying a first class segment on AS as a part of a bigger biz class AA award ticket) and it was small and had a pancake machine and sparkling wine so I was happy but the lounge was full and not accepting PP at that time. From what I've seen on FT it is pretty common for SEA's AS lounges to be closed to PP so you could stop by one if it's close by but I would map out the closest The Club just in case.

ETA: also AS caps guests at 2

if ur flying in during high traffic hours, expect lounges to be closed due to capacity to PP members. happened to me once. i've seen a lot of DP that say the same.

edit: gottalovepluto beat me to it lol

honestly, there's a big difference between doing ms and meeting msr. a lot of our MS strategy will fall under the cash equivalent rule. therefore can be a hit or miss.

only route available i can think of is to overpay ur utlility bills and use platiq on bills that can't be paid with a credit card.

if u haven't filed ur taxes, that strategy might work as well.

It's my home airport. It's really not that big of an airport compared to others and the train runs frequently. Everything.is accessible post checkpoint so you don't have to go back through. If you do customs before boarding in Vancouver you'll have lots of time. It's a boring airport.

I haven't used the club but that's my plan when I fly out in May. I have an afternoon flight. It doesn't help now but I'll post about it then.

I have about $500 more needed to meet my MSR for Amex SPG Biz. Do you think it's safe to purchase GCs on Raise.com to finish up the spend?

I had a horrible time with DH getting the bonus on the Delta Platinum Business. With only $500 left personally I would not do gift cards from Raise. If you want to get them go for a grocery store or somewhere similar...just so it is not so obvious. That said, though, it is probably fine. My experience with Amex was so bad though that I am pretty hesitant to get another Amex right now (which is why I haven't jumped on the SPG Business band wagon...tempted but staying strong and saying no).

So question regarding bonus from referring someone when will it post to your account? Dh first statement has already posted. I still haven’t received the sign up bonus.

Probably depends on card. I know when DH and I referred ourselves last year on the SPG personal it was pretty immediate. With Chase I think it is usually about statement close. I had DH refer me to the Delta Platinum Business and despite the fact I have met the spend and received my bonus he still has not received the referral bonus. I reached out to them and have had no luck. I find it beyond frustrating though and am for the sake of my sanity thinking I will just forget the bonus. I know the language for bonuses on Amex is 8 to 12 weeks.

So the costco/visa checkout page says it is no longer avail, but the end date is 3/30. I'm confused. It doesn't appear to be necessary to click through a special link. Just buy stuff and checkout with visa checkout using a visa. So think I could still get it?

It would be about 1-3p on a Monday afternoon

That would be great. Just plotting out flights post cruise for May 2019

I can't seem to find the link right now but I saw on Twitter last night from Doctor of Credit that they added language about no cash cards and then removed the offer completely. So yes I think the offer is probably dead.

Ugh. Auto repair bill over $500. Working on SPG Amex msr but no Amex at repair shop
CFU or BOA rewards, decisions, decisions.
Need to apply for CIC. DH got BOA card in January. He’s 4/24 until 10/18 when CSP drops off. So he’s ok for CIC and could still do SW Premier & Biz in November for CP?
