I love credit cards so much! v7.0 - 2025 (see first page for add'l details)

Can anyone answer a few questions about my Chase Marriott Bonvoy card? I'm thinking about cancelling it since I don't use it enough.

1.) I have a hotel certificate 35K points, awarded in June. Will I lose it if I cancel my card?
2.) I have lots of Chase cards. Should I ask to move my credit to another card before closing the Bonvoy?
3.) Are there any compelling reasons to keep the card open? I stay in a Marriott about once per year for one or two nights.

You don't lose the cert if you cancel. You don't get any of the annual fee back if you cancel now. If you downgrade to the no AF Bold, you can get prorated AF back.

You've already paid about half a year's worth of AF though, so you might want to wait for the next AF and cert. You might be able to get the cert within the time for an AF refund if you wanted to cancel. If not, you can go the downgrade route.

This is assuming you don't need to cancel the card to fulfill one of the convoluted rules about getting another Bonvoy card.

**update**

I canceled and the entire amount seems to expire May 24, 2026.

Hello, experts.

I am supposed to fly out to Virginia this weekend to see a friend... but the lack of ATC staff has me worried, so I am thinking about canceling.

Southwest flights were PURCHASED on May 23, 2025, but CHANGED (I can't remember why, now) on June 4. The trip was purchased as a round trip (if that matters).

The outbound is marked "Wanna Get Away Plus" and the return is marked "Basic."

If I cancel these today, will I get one flight credit that expires in a month or so (the Basic one) and another one that has a slightly longer expiration date?

I’d love if chase gave me the option to get a code to transfer points between my accounts. It used to. Then it changed to I had to call to get a code. Now it says I can’t do anything because it can’t verify my identity. This is on both mine and my husbands biz accounts. It let me transfer from his personal to mine last time I tried but that was some time ago (after biz cards started requiring the phone call). And the phone call isn’t just get a code. I had to give a few of my other full credit card numbers first after some other identifying info. I guess I need to call and find out what the issue is so I can get the points moved before the deadline.
This is me. I had to call one time and they wanted the full numbers of my all my Chase cards and since I had my wallet sitting there and I was being a smart*** I started rattling them all off. After about the fifth one I asked her do you really want me to keep going or is this proof enough. Eventually I gave her enough information to move my URs. Since then I've found that it varies upon each login. Sometimes I get a code, sometimes it wants me to call. I've found that if it asks me to call, I can log out and then back it and sometimes get a code or sometimes I have to wait a couple of days to get a code. It's a crap shoot. I get wanting to take care of transfer points but this is happening when transferring from one card to another in my own account. I think there is a point when security goes too far.

I have to share my redemption I just completed, someone reassure me this was a good deal. My daughter is graduating from college in May and her gift is a trip to Japan. She wanted to go next September, so I've been watching sites and trying to figure out my best course of action. I was on FlyingBlue since Chase has a 20% transfer bonus and noticed 2 Biz seats available on JAL from ORD on 9/15. I logged onto Chase, transferred those points so fast and then back to FB to book the JAL flights, it was a total of 279,000 for 2 one-way. I'm sure there are better redemptions, but honestly I was so excited to see that option. It's fully refundable if I find something better. We will just have to book a quick flight from Ohio to ORD and then it's direct to HND.

Oh, and yes, I will have to figure out how to return, it may be in economy lol!
FYI, FB has like a 75euro change/cancellation fee per ticket. Just a heads up if you look for other redemptions.

Just to be sure. When booking a FHR hotel if I pay with $300 cash and the rest with points I'll still get the $300 credit?
Yes.
Also, there may be dps that if you pay in full with points you will also still get the full $300 credit. I'm a little fuzzy, but pretty sure that's how it works with Amex.

DH apped anyways, using my support link. He got "we need to review your application and will be in touch in writing" or something to that effect, so it doesn't sound all that positive. 2 biz cards open (no balances, no spending), an Ink closed 3.5 weeks ago

Hoping it's just verification for your DH and that you'll get the support!

Quoting myself as well. DH's app was just flagged for identity verification. He just had to call and confirm phone #, SSN, email address and receive a verification text code. Then approved! I do hope I get the support points too!

Yay! So glad you are going to visit my favorite country.

Both IHG points and Hilton points can be bought for 100% bonus. 50K IHG points with the 100% bonus would get you 100k for $500. HH points bonus are targeted so you might be able to get 100K for the same.

The Hilton Edinburgh Carlton is available for 70k points a night (stayed here this past July) and the Double Tree is 60k a night. I would double check what those might be running through the UR portal too.

The Sheraton Grand Hotel and Spa Edinburgh is a Marriott property and is running 88K-130K depending on the dates. I'd also check the UR portal on this one as the UR paying with points is likely to be better than a points transfer. I've stayed here before and we are there over New Year's Eve this year.

I wouldn't stay a whole week in Edinburgh unless it was during Fringe Festival which isn't until August. 2-3 days should suffice to take in some of the highlights. Definitely move around. Inverness to see Loch Ness is an idea. Stop at Urquhart Castle and kill 2 birds with one stone. Driving through the Highlands and Glencoe on the way to the Isle of Skye is just lovely. On the way to Skye definitely stop at Eilean Donan Castle which is iconic. Portree is a super cute harbor town and most of the accommodations would be found there but they book up super fast.

As for shows on the West End, we just saw The Play That Goes Wrong on our way back home from Scotland on this last trip. We could not stop laughing. Literal tears streaming down my face. Absolutely recommend! We do have tickets to see Come Alive! when we are there in January. I can report back my thoughts.

We are planning to fly to Edinburgh from Paris after DLP and then doing a 3 day tour with Rabbies while there to Isle of Skye. I should be able to find hotels in Edinburgh, as there are plenty to choose here.

The Rabbies tour we are looking at will overnight in Portree for 2 nights and does not include accommodations but they can make reservations for them for us and then we will pay the hotel or B&B directly. I looked in June and accommodation availability is scarce already in Portree.

Can I ask where you stayed? I'd rather pay more to choose my own lodgings but will go through the tour company if we have no other options.

We thought about the 4-5 day tours and I was getting tired thinking about the hours in the vehicle. I didn't want travel burn out. We have port intensive cruises before and after Scotland. If we love it, we will be back I think,

Thanks for any recommendations!

Number 3 would be the compelling reason to consider keeping the card if the Marriott properties you stay at once or twice a year can be booked with a 35k free night cert. If the answer is yes, they can be booked with a 35k FN cert, AND, the cash amount for one night is greater than your annual fee, keeping the card is saving you money. I have a decent number of sock drawer cards because they meet the above criteria. Then annual benefit is something I use anyway and paying the annual fee on the card gets me that benefit for less money than paying for the benefit without the card. Hope this helps.

Fantastic! So glad you have things in motion. Yes Portree is super popular in the summer and books quickly. I have stayed at The Rosedale twice. It’s quirky and was originally 3 separate fishing cottages that are now combined. There is no elevator so be aware of that if there are mobility issues. I’d send an email if it looks like they are booked out just in case. The online booking is a bit janky.

I have also stayed at Cuillin Hills Hotel which is lovely but expensive. If you have an evening on your own definitely recommend at least booking dinner reservations there.

Does Chase ever give retention offers? AF just posted on my CSR ($550). I'm likely going to keep it open one more year since I just got in under the gun with the old AF, but I'm kind of waffling on it - I don't think I'll use most of the new benefits (except the $300 travel credit). If there was any bit of an incentive I'd keep it open for sure.
If you get one you are lucky. If you keep money at their bank you will have a better chance of getting one. Also think you will get one if you are in NYC metro - the people they sent a free AirTag to. Otherwise it’s very YMMV. Someone on Reddit who spent $80-90k a year just said they did not get a retention offer.

The underlined statement confuses me a bit as it says up to 4 purchases. I'll be filling up maybe 3 to 4 times before Oct 29 as I'm traveling to Disney this month, so definitely a little break at the pump if store locations work out, but I'm wondering what 'other' items might be discovered in their convenience stores? I have this on Hyatt, Disney, Marriott, Southwest and CIU.

I have an Exxon right around the corner. Gas at Costco is $2.64 right now (today). I had a search that matched that at Exxon but it is wrong. I'll be dropping in later to check out the convenience store.

The Citi 100k for the strata elite is back. I saw it on the homepage when I was looking for the splurge credit to post. It's been 3 days has not)
It took a week or two for my splurge credit to post. It was my first purchase with the card!

Blacklane took even longer.

YES! We went May 2023 but I already want to go back. Most places are one and done for me... been there, seen that type thing. But I don't think I could get tired of Yellowstone. It was absolutely amazing.
I'm fairly certain that we're going to go over the 4th of July'ish next year, and be in Cody on the 4th for their rodeo which they claimed to be "magnificent"! We live in Houston and I don't know if Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo can be beat (although we are native East coasters and don't really care); however, I am willing to sacrifice my hot, humid, Houston 4th of July to be in Yellowstone and Cody to find out! We took our Airstream on this trip and stayed at Fishing Bridge RV park for all nights, except the first night when we stayed at the Old Faithful Inn. We galavanted alll over Wyoming and Montana and Idaho and found it better than I ever expected it to be. I am so impressed!

I think I know the answer but just verifying here.... I'm 6/24 ATM, just got a SWA cc email offer....I'm guessing it'd be a hard no even tho they sent it to me?
