I love credit cards so much! v7.0 - 2025 (see first page for add'l details)

Good morning!

I am currently at 4/24... I just now saw that there is an offer for the IHG Biz card that I'd like. I currently hold an IHG Personal.

However, I had applied for the IHG Biz back in March 2025 and got denied flat out (I had a handful of Inks open at the time, although I cannot remember what they gave for the reason for the denial). Right now I have only one Ink open.

That denial was my first outright denial so I am wondering if you feel I should be safe to apply for the Biz again or no? I am not sure of best practices in this situation.

This hobby is very much "nothing ventured, nothing gained". There's definitely been enough time between then and now for you to try again. Chase is getting more stingy on the total number of Inks and total number of business cards, so if you have any that you don't use and don't provide a passive benefit, you might consider closing one and then applying shortly thereafter.

I was reading on reddit about Citibank freezing accounts until people send in forms proving income. Yikes. I applied for the Citi elite with the 80k link. I was mad I didn't know about the 100k link, but it's sounds like my ignorance was a good thing. My accounts are still open.
According to what a Citi employee said is that they are targeting people that submitted high HHI. I guess the link has caused a lot of fraud, "people" got high credit limit and charged it up and aren't real people?

I used the 100K link, used a lower HHI than my previous Citi application and no issues with my account.

I would apply again, DH had been denied twice this year, than after 2 years of chase applications he finally received INSTANT approval.

The data points on reddit of people getting locked aren't super high incomes. A lot of them have a long history with Citi. I see how it could have started, but geez a lot of innocent people are getting cut up in it.

I had 31 days between closing and applying and it wasn't enough. Recon didn't help. In the past I've had success calling Amex and have held more than 5 cards, but they seem to have drawn a line. My letter only stated the number of cards I held. I thought about HUCA but didn't. I just went for a chase card. I'm probably going to wait at least another month.

This is what makes it tricky. If I cancel it now and then wait for a different dl offer than what's out now, if it's not nll I may get the pop up. I'm also looking to cancel my gold and u decided about plat. So Amex may really noy like me soon.

It would also leave me stuck with the dl biz plat since you can't PC to gold any more. That may not be the worst but I'm not sure. I'll have to figure it out.

I'm not in too deep with Amex. I have 3 cards with annual fees and one old card without. I put a little spend on all of them. I do keep the Marriotts for the free nights. And eventually I want the Aspire for basically the same reason. But I want to build a teeny bank first.

Very little other Amex product appeals to me. I had the Amex Gold MR card for three years. They made it where you had to run around to make it worth it and upped the fee. I don't want to put that kind of energy into maximizing any card long term.

edit: the aspire eventually could give me a free night plus the ability to spend for additional free nights which others are successful doing. There are a few decent Hilton properties that this could work nicely for.

Anyone fly through CDG recently? We have a 2hour connection in early Dec. wondering if that will be enough time to go through customs?

The Aspire will give you an FNC about 2 months after opening. If you PC to the Aspire, you also get that first year FNC. It's pretty different from other FNC cards where it's only after the first anniversary.

The spend on the Aspire to get a spend FNC is $30k. It would be better to do it on the Surpass which is only $15k.

I'm stuck on what to get for my next card. I'm currently at 5/24, will drop to 4/24 in December. In PUJ for seemingly all Amex Business Cards (or at least the ones I could reasonably meet the spend on). Would like to try and acrue some Hilton Honors points for our trip next summer, but am in PUJ for the Amex Hilton Business card and would be interested in trying for one of the personal Hilton cards, but that'll lock me out of Chase until next July based on my 5/24 status. P2 is nervous and reluctant about this game, although I can usually rely on him to agree to open an Ink every six months or so.

Any other cards (especially business cards) I could be considering for Hilton points that I'm not aware of?

When can you be down to 2 Chase biz cards so you can try for an Ink? I think the opportunity cost is high to be stuck at 5/24 for an additional 7 months.

If you're pop-up prone, I think you're likely to get it on personal cards as well. Outside of special links, I think it depends more on what the bonus costs Amex than whether it's a personal or biz card.

I'm at 2 Inks as of this month (just closed one yesterday, actually). It's the 5/24 status that's keeping me from getting more Inks right now, but I'll be dropping to 4/24 in December. I'm definitely worried about being stuck at 5/24 for that long if I get another personal card right now. Lots of months of missed opportunity there!

The only cards I can think of would be MR earning Amex cards. You could transfer to Hilton Honors. But - the big but is that the Hilton points are worth so little even with a transfer bonus I wouldn't be interested.

Another possible option is to use DOC's links (when he has them) to possibly get approved for the HH Biz card. He says 'do so at your own risk' which is kinda scary. On checking the website, the Hilton Biz is not one of his offerings.
I also saw a transfer bonus for MR to Hilton but Doc says it's still not worth it as MR's are more valuable (usually for flights).
So I do have 100,000+ MRs that have just been sitting for >1 year. I was holding onto these because I keep hearing how good they are for international flights, but realistically, I'm not planning to take any vacation flights until 2027 at the earliest, so maybe I should just go ahead and use these points for a Hilton transfer (with 25% bonus) now? I'm mostly holding onto them since I know they should be worth more, but a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, right?

Would using Hilton points for a hotel get you more value than cashing out the MRs? 100k MR is $1000 with a biz checking and $1100 with a Platinum Schwab. If it's close, also consider that paying cash would earn you Hilton points.

Good point! I actually calculated this just a little bit ago and determined that the hotel would cost $1193.55 booking in cash or 84,000 MR converted to HH with the bonus. So I think its worth it, although I'll also consider the impact of earning HH into the equation!

I was denied last November for a CIU - 1st first denial with Chase as well. I have been able to get 2 Chase cards this year - a CIU in March and CIP in August. Good luck!!

I was one of those that upgraded my CSP to CSR right before the change in June. I got a letter last week that says my new annual fee will be billed for this account on or after 11/1/25 and it is at the $795 rate. I knew it was a gamble even though the rep told me on the phone that we would be billed the $550 rate. I just wish we could go ahead and use the $250 edit credit. We have a conference in Vegas the beginning of November, so it would be nice to use the credit. We got a pretty good redemption with points boost, so will have to see if it is worth it when the change takes effect in late October.
