I love credit cards so much! v7.0 - 2025 (see first page for add'l details)

How old is your son? My daughter is 20, so she's not hitting these spends, LOL. And honestly right now she can't even book hotels, etc, so she can't really travel without me yet.
SO I think his first app was around 18 maybe.... now he's mid 20's and capable of hitting spend on his own- I think he was a bit over 20 or so before he could hit it on his own. Even now if he needed a pinch hitter I'd help out but overall he had to "earn" those points himself

As much as I hate to be so ambiguous about this post, I am here to write:

Yellowstone hotels? Everything looks so... outdated. I'd like to stay at the Old Faithful Inn, but can't justify the cost with the reviews that it ha,s and not having any cell service (wifi) or decent food for meals. Old Faithful Lodge? Old Faithful Snow Lodge? "offsite"?

Looking at Sept 26-30. Will fly in from DEN and get a rental car.

Thanks in advance.
I will let you know in a week. We are headed there in 2 days. Staying at Mammoth Hot Springs cabin, Old Faithful Snow Lodge cabin and Canyon Lodge cabin (all cabins have their own bathrooms).

hold up - no bathroom? Each room does not have their own bathroom?
And I thought the map looks like there'd be a lot of driving if we stay offsite. Thanks for noting that.
Old Faithful cabins have a sink for washing, no bathroom. easy walk to a bath house, they were my fave part of our stay...I want to go back! And Yes, there's a lot of driving from offsite. Stay on the loop if you can.

Just as a side note, my dad always said that I consider it roughing it to carry my bags into a hotel but I would recommend staying in the park! We stayed 2 nights at the Old Faithful Inn which has tiny rooms with a hall bath. We enjoyed staying there for the history and being so close to Old Faithful. We stayed 2 nights at the Roosevelt Cabins. It was very rustic and we had a very small bath in the cabin, but our friends had a cabin without a bath. I would stay inside the park just to reduce the amount of driving and to be in the park without all the day visitors. We loved driving to Lamar Valley late in the day and early in the morning to see the wildlife. Our kids enjoyed hanging out in the Inn and Cabins playing cards and games at night.

We stayed in Canyon Lodge cabins, which were nicer than expected (they had a full bathroom), but there was a check-in issue and our room wasn't ready until like 6-7pm! It was the day after a snowstorm so they were likely short staffed or something, but there were SOO many people waiting in the lobby for rooms to be ready.
We also stayed in Old Faithful cabins, which were rough because they had no bathroom and they were pretty primitive (no AC/heat), but it was location, location, location for us. We could see Old Faithful 10 steps from our cabin, and then the main lodge was so close to walk into for a coffee or muffin in the morning. It was so nice to be RIGHT there when we woke up and go walking the trails.
In general, I think Yellowstone lodging is more dated, but I took advice from the internet and others on here, and am SO glad we stayed in park instead of outside. It was a lot of driving, and I can't imagine if we had to drive into the park every day on top of that!

We've stayed in Roosevelt Lodge Cabins (campground style bathrooms and very spartan cabins) and LOVE them. They are as cheap as you can get in-park. I totally agree about being in-park being worth it -- like you said, there's already so much driving. In-park lets you stay out later and closer to dark (we do not drive after dark in that region) and also if you want to get up and out early for wildlife viewing, you are saving so much time. We like to drive out to Lamar Valley from Roosevelt Lodge and set out some chairs (we buy cheap chairs from Walmart in Bozeman after we land) and binoculars and just enjoy the evening and maybe a glass of wine as we sit out and look for animals. Then we head back to our lodging as the sun sets.

We've also stayed at Lake Cabins and the OF Snow Lodge. We're more interested in wildlife and less crowded areas/hikes so we'd probably not stay near OF again, but we have been there. But it's a great location if it's a first time.

I adore all of your candid comments. And I truly appreciate them! This group is always so well versed, and so helpful! I'm trying to put this together last minute and I just knew that this was the group to go to.

My husand owns his own company so we defintely need to be able to be reachable. We cannot be in an area without cell service or wifi for too terribly long.

And for me personally, I think not having our own bathroom will be a deal breaker. I can carry my own bags (AKA roughing it lol), but I am not all that interested in a communal shower or toilet. I'll gladly pay a higha dolla for a private bathroom. :worship:

Yes, Old Faithful cabins were "camping cabins", so communal bathroom. I think you can pay in the lodge for a room with a private bathroom, but it's still a "historic" (read: outdated) stay, lol. Our cell service was horrible in the entire OF area and the lodge wifi was basically useless, it might as well been non-existant. We saw many campers with their own internet (ie. Starlink), so if your hubby needs to be reachable that's an idea. In the Mammoth area, and even in the Canyon area, we did have better cell service.

We stayed at the Old Faithful Inn and I really actually enjoyed the communal bathroom...guess it reminded me of college? My DD was spoiled and complained, although this was before college and I think now would die of shame if I reminded her of it  It was so nice to stay at the inspiration of WL and honestly, it was so easily walkable to other hotels and I fondly remember huckleberry ice cream (so yummy!), not to mention the thrill of watching Old Faithful erupt so often it became a "eh, no biggie" event during our several day stay.

Fortunately there are several options for different strokes...enjoy your trip wherever you decide to lay your head😴

For those of you with a P2/3/4/etc who is an "adult" child, how often are you doing the spend for them? And are you giving them the perks? I had my 20yo sign up for the CSP (meaning I signed up). I'm hitting the spend. I figure since we are the same household, we can combine points. But I might let her keep them. We'll see. With the Marriott 5 FNC back, I told her we might be doing that card next. She really wants to do an All Inclusive this summer. So I told her we'll look and see and use those if we can (assuming she's approved). I'm locked out of the 5FNC until probably October. But I think the BF can do it. So I'll likely have him do it.

As for the Cap 1 fun....I'm in a few credit card/travel points groups on FB. I have 10x unfollowed, because I just couldn't with them in my feed daily, LOL. But I have a "mom" group that shows up. The amount of mom's complaining about the loss tells me why all these perks are getting taken away. I remember back when the CSR first launched and I came across this thread. It was like a secret club. But everything has gone "mainstream". Everyone is sharing everything. Don't get me wrong, I just shared the $100 Discover referral on my FB page. And I'll share the Hilton FNC when it's out, etc. But TSA precheck is a longer line now because of the masses have CCs that give the perk. Lounges are limiting access because every 4th video on my Tik Tok is someone telling everyone and their brother to go get this card or that card, etc. I get it, we all wouldn't be here if the knowledge wasn't shared. But I think there is something different sharing a 100k SUB for a CSP vs sharing all the "other perks" that in the end hurt us.

My friends and family have asked me time and time again how I do what I do, so I have a blog that I update VERY infrequently. So yes, I too am guilty. But I often glaze over the "perks" that might come with a card. Or I guess rather I try not to boast about the perks that hurt me in the end, LOL. The first rule about fight club, we don't talk about fight club. Since I started we've lost lounge access on cards (Surpass) or had it limited. We lost the PP restaurants. TSA precheck is a joke. Annual fees keep going up and we keep losing "perks". And I hear the bill is floating around again to limit/remove credit card rewards all together. I guess great for the Point Guy, and 10x travel and all the other "influencers" who have cashed in over the years where they are not generating enough from referrals and revenue they'll never have to worry about churning a card, or SUB again. But we've shot ourselves in the foot.

Okay off my soapbox, LOL. I know we all started somewhere.....but I wish it stayed more underground....kinda like peptides and GLP 1s. I feel like you've got to navigate to the dark web almost to get any information, LOL.
Our P3 isn't really aware of how the sauce is made so to speak. She doesn't really know or care about the points but she does like the trips. So as she's gotten older we've helped her build credit by becoming an Auth and now her own cards. I let her know what we are doing and we make the spend for her as she's still 19 and could never make the spends. Right now all her points are still sitting in her accounts as she doesn't have a ton. Once the MSR is met she doesn't really use them We just got her a Delta card and she has a nice stash of sky miles that we were thinking of "giving" to her when she graduates for a trip. She is oblivious to how many she has or what it would translate to. All she really knows is she can check a bag for free now. I think a lot of it depends on if the player is making the spend or not. If she was paying, they'd be hers. Of course, hopefully she would be using it for a trip we'd both be going on.
This I can answer from my own perspective.... I had one adult child who loves the game along with me- we would hammer out terms ahead of time,so I would tell him that in fairness, he's p2, he apps, I spend x amount,he spends x amount, we split the points fairly along those lines. (I always gave him more than myself as a boost to his beginner attempts. It always worked well, now he's old enough that he does it on his own,and we 'support' each other as needed.
I think this is a very fair way to approach it.
It's even terminal dependent! In DTW Delta has its own terminal (complete other bldg). When my BF was at Spirit we flew out of North, and the TSA line was so short. I was thru TSA nearly as fast as him (he always uses KCM). At McNamara (Delta) the TSA lines are so long! And then I've been sent to the basement 3 levels down before when the lines have been long. My BF easily waits almost 20 min sometimes for me to get through. And I always get the wrong line w/ the agent who is taking forever to look over bags, sending things back through etc.
With digital ID with Delta in DTW it's usually a short wait for me or use the TSA in the Westin if you're not checking bags. Obviously only works in McNamara.
I am new to the adult child player 2 (I call her player 1.5). I posted a week or so ago that she got the Schwab platinum. We basically did it as we are trying to get points in place for airline seats in late 2026. With the $8,000 spend requirement over 6 months for the bonus, she could probably hit it on her own, but I want the MRs ASAP so I will be helping her out.

Before she applied, I told her I would pay for the AF, but that meant I got the points and the airline credits. I let her keep the Saks credit (LOL--so generous of me--it's a PITA to use and she actually has a Saks by her). Me keeping the points just means that I will use those points for her part of the airfare when it comes time to book. In other words, since she travels with me, it's all a communal effort. As for the other card perks, I actually just sent her a spreadsheet yesterday with all of them to keep straight. If she doesn't have any use for the streaming credit, I can put it to use. She gets the UBER, Walmart, etc.
It's a communal effort for us right now as well. We still travel together right now but eventually they will be her responsibility both the bills and the points.

In the old faithful area, I’ve stayed in the snow lodge cabins. I found them fine. They do have full bathrooms in each cabin. Plus the best part you can walk to Old Faithful. I’ve also stayed in Canyon lodge cabins and like those as well. Staying outside the park will take at least 1.5 hours to get to the main sights.

TBH, I love being unplugged when visiting the NPs. Oh and if you don’t stay at Old Faithful Lodge, be sure to walk around the lobby and see the fireplace anyway. Just gorgeous architecture.

DD is my P3, but still at college so not able to hit the higher MSRs. Similar to your 'communal effort' theory, I have told her that this is how she can contribute to the vacation fund and she is happy to help cover at least some of the costs in this way. I also give her $100 - $200, depending on the SUB, so she has a more immediate tangible reward for her participation.

just stayed at snow lodge "cabins" the one we were in was newly renovated. wifi worked as did cell service. parking lot was horrible (potholes)
Food onsite just eh
I ould stay onsite but maybe during days hit west yellowstone or south entrance and goo outside for dinner

I had the same think happen when there was a SW change to a flight, so I just cancelled and rebooked. Unless you purchased early bird check in there isn’t a place in line for you to lose
I have noticed this as well and have just canceled my original flight and rebooked to get the lower points. A couple of extra steps but manageable. I don’t ever buy early bird though, so not sure of how that gets handled.

Hi, I haven’t posted in awhile. Mostly doing US travel. I’m going on a last minute trip to Helsinki. I’m in Houston but can reposition. I want to arrive on June 26. I’m returning from Helsinki and going to Baltimore on July 9th. I have Chase UR points, cap1 points and AmEx MR’s. Looks like any biz seats are out of reach unless I can find one for under 100,000. Is it worth upgrading from my free points.yeah to the higher level to help in my search? I may move Amex points to Hawaiian for my return to Baltimore on Alaska Airlines. Would love any suggestions or advice. Thanks 😊
I wanted to give an update. I already had a SWA flight booked to Baltimore on June 24 so decided to fly in the day before. My 5 family members also going to Finland booked flights on Iceland Airlines leaving on June 25. I was able to transfer Amex points to Hawaiian Airlines and then transfer to Alaska Airlines where I booked on points. I’m flying economy but still had to use 77,500 points RT plus an additional $800+ for fees, seat assignments and meals. The cash price on Cap1vx would have been similar but the points route is completely refundable. I could have saved money by selecting free seats but my oldest sister has mobility and health issues and I wanted to sit towards the front near her and her husband. The one positive is it’s only a 10 hour flight from BWI with a connection in Iceland. We are going to Kotka which is a small city with only 2 hotels. We are staying at the Sokos which is a Finnish chain. So no opportunity to use hotel points. Looking forward to visiting with cousins. My mother is from Finland and came to the US with 3 children in 1956. I was last there in 2012 with 6 of my 8 siblings to return our mom’s ashes to the sea near her island home in the Gulf of Finland where she lived with her parents and 3 children.
I have learned so much from this group and love reading about everyone’s travels. 😀

Neat find by a r/creditcards poster - Chase added a "Move credit" option in the Manage Account menu. There's a few restrictions but a nice step in self service! All of our SMs and calls over the years have spurred action

Couple things I've noticed is you have to be signed into the account profile to get the option. So if I'm signed into my combined account, which is really the business account with access to the personal one, I only get the option for my business cards. To see it on personal I have to sign into the personal account.

You'll only see cards with available limit to move and how they determine that is a little weird. Some Visa Signature cards seem to have a $500(+balance) min (for example my CFU) and others have a $5000 min (for example my CF). I didn't see my Visa Infinite as an option, but I have the minimum 10k on that card so I assume that's why.

We all know that a Chase rep can move more and go below the minimum approval amounts, but in my small sample it seems like the self service has different rules.

As people are experimenting, more info should be posted at the original post

or here in r/churning

And a list of eligibility rules copied from a Chase message:

I set up my digital ID, but for some reason it doesn't ever show I have it (just checked and it's in my account as Opt In. I guess maybe I'll have to ask in one of the Delta non-rev goups). Maybe it's because we're flying non-rev. I guess if I'm not w/ the BF I could try the Westin. KCM is right by TSA precheck, so I normally meet him once I finally get through. But the Westin doesn't have precheck I know too. At least that's what they told me when I was flying to STL w/ my son for the Frozen Four. So are you removing everything and taking off shoes?

do you have Global Entry on your account? Ive been using it out of JFK/LGA its been awesome its faster then clear or precheck.

We are getting ready to book our flights for our cruise next summer and I wanted to make sure that we were allowing enough time for our connections. We will be flying from IAD-LHR-HER all with BA. I know LHR can be busy but do not know how much time we will need or what we will need to do when we connect. This will be our first time flying internationally. The first option gets into LHR at 06:15 and the connection flight leaves at 09:55. There is another option to choose a later connection that departs at 11:25. We will have checked bags. Will 3.5 hours at that time of the morning give us enough time to make our connection provided we arrive on time? Do we need to go through customs or any screenings since we are just passing through LHR on our way to Greece?

There is a later flight from IAD that lands at 07:45 at LHR that would also give us 3.5 hours to make the 11:25 connection to HER. Would LHR be noticeably busier at 07:45 than 06:15? I would prefer a flight from BWI but I do not think the 2 hour connection time with that flight is reasonable.

Thanks for any thoughts or help.

Two hours and 15 minutes is my comfort level with connecting in international airports. That's my personal gage.

When I travel internationally by myself I feel the 2 hour mark is comfortable for me provided that I've been to that airport before.
If I am traveling with my family 3 hours is my comfort level. That's because of all of the moving parts - spouse, kiddos, restaurants, bio breaks, souveniers or generally needing to walk around and stretch the legs.

LHR is big. You may or may not have to change terminals. Sometimes you have to go through passport control and security. I would absolutely choose the flight with the 3.5 hour connection since you've never flown internationally before.
