I love credit cards so much! v7.0 - 2025 (see first page for add'l details)

Received an email from American Express, they are discontinuing the Serve prepaid debit card program, May 5 2026 is the last day to add funds, June 3 2026 all cards will be closed. :sad1:

Wonder if I can get a Visa Serve card…off to research

Hi, Long time lurker....
I recently got the Chase Sapphire preferred with the 100K points bonus. We aren't big travelers, but do have a Disney trip planned in December. I've been trying to figure out the best way to use those points--but I don't think anything other than cashing out/getting a statement credit would work for us. Please double check me.

We plan to fly on Allegiant (direct flights and way better rates from our area), then take an Uber to our Disney Hotel (onsite hotel-not interested in staying at the Swan or Dolphin). I can't use points for Allegiant, a Disney hotel, or park tickets---right?

There are 6 of us going, & using points for flights on any carrier I could transfer the points to would outweigh the cost of the Allegiant flights.

I do plan to purchase flights and hotel on the Sapphire card to get points and for the insurance (which I believe is included?) but other than that I don't see a way the points would help me.

thanks for your help!

As someone who has Allegiant as an option for flights I would say to look at the value of multiple flight options before deciding which is better. For instance Allegiant might get you to WDW at 6pm and a flight on a major carrier might get you there before noon, same for coming home, a major carrier with many more daily flights can get you more time at WDW. Also there the pesky baggage and seat selection fees w/ Allegiant. And getting from Sanford tends to be more expensive than from MCO if Sanford is where you have to fly in to. So I would check what the flight costs are and it might end up being close to a wash between Allegiant and a major carrier w/ points.

Lastly there isn't a huge harm in holding the points for a bit and see if another need for them arises. Sometimes there are transfer bonuses that will make your points go even father and be more valuable than 100k.

Thanks for your advice. I've priced out all the airlines close to me and Allegiant wins by a long shot. American is the only other option close and none of the American flights are transferable (not through British air, etc).

I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything on my end. thanks

You can use points for Allegiant flights. @Haley R has done it before. You'd have to call Chase Travel and it has the disadvantages of booking through third party. But you'd get 1.25 cent per point with CSP instead of 1 cpp cash out.

wondering the same....if I pc'd a cc to CSr before the AF changes hit, does that mean I'm grandfathered in to the current AF?

You might be grandfathered in for a period of time. When the United Explorer AF went up, it was announced in March and higher AF will be charged starting 1/1/26 for existing card holders. We won't know what that looks like for the CSR until it's announced. Maybe it's similar 9 months or maybe they like the 1/1/26 date.

When you PC, the AF date is also unpredictable (at least I don't know how they determine it). It's not like Amex where the AF stays the same day. I've upgraded to CSR and not have the AF charged until 6 months later. Have also had about 3 months.

Been thinking if I should upgrade a Freedom, but I can't decide if it's worth the hassle.

Cash back will go towards your credit card balance and is a good use. If you book anything travel related through Chase Travel, your value goes up 25% so if you were going to get $100. cash back towards your statement balance, you would be getting $125. towards travel IF you book through Chase Travel. That may or may not be worth it. If you have status with airlines or hotels, you won't get your status benefits usually when booking through Chase Travel. Sometimes, they run a special Pay Yourself Back at with the extra 25% for certain charitable donations. I use mine often for that, but I am regularly donating to the charity anyway no matter what the cash back offer is.

What?!!?!? I had no idea! I've looked at that Chase website 1000 times. I'm assuming there's a number listed somewhere I've overlooked?

And what would be the disadvantages of booking through them? I'm brand new to this.

thanks so much!

At the bottom of the Chase Travel page is a contact us:
"To speak with a Chase Travel Specialist, call 1-866-331-0773 or the international number +1-206-274-6380 (charges may apply) at any time. Cruise and Vacation specialists are available Monday–Friday from 9 AM to 9 PM ET and Saturday from 9 AM to 5 PM ET."

With any third party booking, it can be a pain if there's a schedule change or if you need to change or cancel your flight. You'd need to go through Chase Travel instead of directly with the airline. From @Haley R post before, sounds like Allegiant isn't a particularly easy one to deal with.

Just an FYI, can't speak for all hotels. I've received my Platinum status Marriott benefit at both Swan and Swan Reserve.

I had them add my Bonvoy number when I checked in. I know it can go either way, but I've had status recognized at other hotels also. Of course it's not guaranteed but it's nice when it happens.

We’ve done it a few times when we’ve had a surplus of URs. It can be a pain to book that way. Like @wanderlust7 said, if there is any change or cancellations it can be annoying. I think we’ve been able to make changes ourselves on the allegiant app but it won’t be easy to get a refund if that’s the case. Sometimes when we’ve called Chase the rep has no idea how to book it that way so we’ve had to call again and get someone else. We do fly allegiant a lot though because they’re the only ones that fly nonstop to where our family lives. We just flew allegiant to Knoxville and it was a great flight there and back.

Has anyone used UR for universal hotels recently? Does it come with their version of fast pass even if you book with Chase? My parents want us to go to Universal with them next year for their milestone bdays and we have never done those parks!
We did this a few years ago during Spring Break. I thought it was pretty good deal for 1.5 CSR considering you can’t transfer points there. 64K for $960 room that gave us Express Pass Unlimited for two days for 4 people. The lowest price they were selling the passes on our trip was $220 each and the other day was $300 each or a little more. Seeing those prices just made the redemption even sweeter.

When accepting an upgrade through AMEX when do you start getting the benefits of the new card? My DH just upgraded his Delta Gold to the Delta Platinum. They prorated the annual fee, when can we expect the companion cert to be available?
I believe it is based on your gold anniversary date. You should get the extra $50 immediately giving you a $150 credit when booking at delta.com/stays for hotels. We just use ours for crashing after late night flights where we are moving somewhere else in the am.

My DP on the Chase green star you are already approved offers….saw this morning DH had offers for the CIU, CIP and the Premier. Since it had been over 3 months since his last application and instant approval, I decided to go for it even though he has 5 open business cards (we do use them).
Applied for the CIP through the preapproval tool and instant approval :flower:Didn’t want to chance a denial if I did it with my support link so no idea if it would have worked or not.
