This works already after enrolling, right? I can go pick up a $50 Hilton gift card, then, for Q4 2024?
  1. Enrollment is not effective until the customer has received an email or letter from American Express confirming enrollment; any Hilton purchases prior to receipt of that confirmation will not qualify for the benefit. If you believe you’ve enrolled but haven’t received an email or letter, please call the number on the back of your Card.

Hopefully they send confirmations quickly

Oh, yeah, the email came right away (although online, Amex still says enrollment pending so I'll wait a few days)

Okay awesome! I haven’t enrolled yet since DH holds all the hotel accounts in our house. I don’t have him as an AU so I guess I have to create my own account.

We’re headed to Costa Rica in April and I thought for Christmas I’d get my kids (DD 17, DS 16, DS 13) new shoes for the trip. I’m thinking something waterproof? We’re hoping to do white water rafting and hiking to waterfalls among our activities. Any advice on what to get? Any other trip related gift ideas for teens? Thanks!

I like my Tevas for wet climates, my kids prefer crocs (ugh!) Unless you want more of a hiking boot. Then, I am not very helpful because I am still in the market myself! Other travel ideas could be belt/shoulder bags (like Kavu or Cotopaxi)? Maybe power banks or ear buds for stockings. I gifted my oldest a Kindle before a big trip once and she loved it so much because she does tons of reading on trips and all those books take up so much room. My other kids could not care less and that would not have been a good gift for them, though!

Last Christmas I tried to give them some things for our trip to Japan. Nice cosmetic bags, special lenses for iphone, a gadget that you can clip your phone to on the plane to watch movies, things like that. I considered a travel journal/notebook but didn't really find what I was looking for.

So, did anyone do the 20k bonus from Chase? Do I have to pay it now, or can I do the pay later option? I can book 2 hotels now in areas that don't have Hyatts and get 40k points without paying until later. Does anyone know how that works? Also, does it have to be booked with the same card, and do you still get the Chase bonus, i.e., 5-10x? thanks in advance

Oh, I haven't! But thank you for reminding me that I need to use it! I also don't remember any details or what card I even have it on. Will need to investigate further this weekend!

Second the recommendation on Tevas!! I have both the Originals, which I wear to places like the lake and beach, and then I have the Hurricanes (which have more of an adventure gripping sole) which I wore to Costa Rica for our waterfall hike and also the hiking trail at Los Altos, and they worked perfectly! Highly recommend... super comfy also! And comes in cute colorways :)

For hiking boots, I highly recommend Columbia Newton Ridge boots! Mine have been through all 5 Utah national parks, Yellowstone/GTNP, Colorado, Hawaii Volcanoes & Haleakala, etc. They've probably seen over 100 miles of hiking trails, they've been through mud and rain and snow, and they have held up great. They are very comfortable for my feet. Once I retire my current pair, I'll be getting another!

Once you get used to traveling with carry-on only you won’t go back. Items I find very useful are a large Rimowa carry-on with built-in suppression straps (you wouldn’t believe how much this can fit!) and a travel backpack similar to This one. I also pack an ABD duffle that zips closed for items I buy to carry home in. For a handbag I carry a Longchamp le pliage (it fits a lot of stuff!) and I always have a much smaller bag / fanny pack that I use in cities that I visit. I usually drop laundry at a same day wash and fold at least once if I travel during the summer (though hotel laundry was very inexpensive in Bali so I used that). A weekend trip for me is my Tumi backpack!
I do carry-on only, too, and I use the same suitcase and handbag, although mine expands and I just use it as my personal item on the plane. That backpack looks much more sturdy. I try to take lightweight or quick dry layers and often just hand wash an item or two.

I hope you have a great trip!

look at Keens as well. great water sandals and hiking boots, very comfortable

I 2nd Columbia for actual hiking boots, used them in Ieland

@babyready the 2 places i looked at were about 10% more then if I booked from the hotel directly not a big deal but paying ahead was at least to me I'm so used to paying it later, then if the point value goes up or down I can decide to pay cash or points this makes you pay up front.

Found a 10% instore discount at CVS up to $5 on my Disney Visa.

This would be the Disney Visa Premier I app'ed for at Disney Springs while there last week. Card arrived yesterday.

The offer was a $200 Disney gift card on approval plus a $200 credit after $500 spend. I could have done it via referral from DD with the 1K spend, but pulled the trigger anyway. My intention is to buy a $500 gift card today as well as the 10% offer separately.

I'll justify the $500 gift card as a 40% discount and use it for my dues, along with the $200 first card.
This makes three (3) yes you read that correctly, Disney Visa's in my account. Two have to go soon. I do the offer every 2 years, and downgrade to free after one year. Also manage DD as a player 2 getting a card every 2nd year. That's pretty much the only thing she does.

I think I'm now 2/24 with Chase but in January I'm planning on an Amex card which will push me to 3/24.

Informed delivery shows an envelope from Barclays for p2. The status screen doesn't show denied, so I am hoping this means there is something we can fax/mail/email in for verification.
of course with my mail, I might not actually see if for a few days.

Edited, nope, they want a phone call only. That's not likely going to happen, so no Barclays AA card for him.

Paying property tax with my stash of fee free GC. Yeah they lowered the fees for both CC and DC. Boo, I seriously hate those sticky hide the last 4 digits safety measures. Good thing it is a once and done for the card or the residue would drive me crazy :rotfl2: I know first world problem.

Also knocked out US Bank triple cash and BBP MSRs on estimated fed tax pmt. Still need another large MSR to finish.

This might be old news but it seems like Bilt is moving from WF to another bank. DD was told she should reapply (which I think is really annoying). They also ask if you live in a Bilt Alliance building (she does).

Just approved for our first US Bank biz card, with a teeny CL (at least compared to what I just got with Barclays, lol). We also have upcoming property taxes, so I needed an MSR, and we're taking quite a break from Chase.
I applied for Amex Biz Gold, I guess I'm in PUJ.
DH applied for SW Biz Performance and he was approved. Stats: 4/24, one Chase business card open, 3 personal chase cards, last chase card approved 7/24 (CIP).

I received a phone call from Barclay this morning about my pending AA application. They literally just confirmed the information on my application - income, job decription, and length of employment - and then asked if I was willing to move some credit line over from my newly approved JetBlue card. CL moved and card approved immediately. Easy peasy.

So, P2 may get a phone call about the application. I applied on 12/5/2024 and they called and approved it today, 12/13/2024. The area code the call came from was 302. Perhaps, P2 won't call but may be willing to speak with the rep if they call him. Put a post it on the back of the phone with the info that you used on the application - income, job description, length of employment, etc. He should know his own ID verification - DOB, address, etc.

Good luck!
