I have 2 pairs of Uggs, one I've never worn. And the other got a whole in the toe area after wearing only a handful of times. I'm a fan of Fuggs, Bearpaws are my go to. Now those have lasted 4+ seasons. I like them to wear at the cold rinks, and most of the winter here, LOL.

I saved up all my my spins and did them last night. I got 4000 and 40 miles. So I'm up 4120 I think now. Today both spins were a bust.

Had a rough Thursday. My son was cut from his hockey team. We weren't expecting it at all. His coaches have told us numerous times that he is the best on the team. They were unhappy w/ his lack of motivation/leadership. Mind you he's 11. He was struggling hard w/ being off the ice for so long (gained 20lbs), and online school. His dad finally agreed to have him start adderall (he was failing every class with like a 20% or lower). The change was IMMEDIATE! Grades are A's and B's and his coaches were raving about how he was skating the best they'd ever seen. One of his coaches was SHOCKED to hear Brady was cut. Two of his coaches have pledged to get him on any team he wants. It's a struggle because my son is a natural (not just mama glasses here). But he "hates" playing because I "force" him. But the thing is he has so much fun at practices and games. But like every 11 yo, he'd stay home and play Minecraft 24/7 if we let him. So yes, he's "forced". We're giving him the choice of which clubs to try out for. One of his also coaches the #8 team in the country (for Brady's age) and has flat out said, Brady is good enough to skate for them. He just lacks the maturity and focus (ADHD kid to the MAX). We honestly think Brady just rubbed one of the coaches wrong, his other 3 have been saying how great he is. And like I said, 2 have promised to get him on another team. Other hockey parents might understand the fun that is hockey. The other thing is, that coach is kinda pointing us away from teams that mean we would play them. That coach's son is the goalie, and I think he doesn't want to play my son because he knows he can light it up and score like crazy, LOL. And when my son has a beef against a coach, he plays about 10 times harder against that team. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: So my next week will be spent at a different hockey rink (or 2) every night. UGH.

I'm a P1, though my DD has AU cards. I have kinda gotten my BF into it. He has a CFU that he uses most of the time now.

I'm thinking that too. Might as well make the last payment before it expires the payoff. Gone are those 4% earning days.

I have my wedding ring sitting in my jewelry box. I'm thinking of doing something w/ the diamond for DD. She hates $$$ jewelry. I wanted to get her a Tiffany's shamrock necklace (she's born on St. Patty's Day) but she was like, NO!!! It's too much! Maybe w/ time she'll get over that. At the same time I'm like, does my DD need a diamond, LOL.
Ugh. I've had so many tough sports experience with my ADHD kid--granted not at the level your son is playing at, but it has sucked. It started when DS was playing Little League and the coach was a total jerk and because DS (I think he was 7 or 8 at the time) didn't pay attention in the field he was punished by only being allowed to play catcher (way too much equipment). And in basketball he just had a tough time following auditory directions and coaches don't get that this is not intentional.

This situation with your son will sort itself out. But ADHD kids need advocates and cheerleaders. We do vyvanse which costs a small fortune and it took forever to get his dad on board.

And I thought of saving the center diamond for DD but then I decided I wanted diamond studs.

i absolutely can’t stand cold toes. Which is my issue with those ugg slippers. My DD wore them all winter break and it would just make my toes cold looking at her bare toes. Lol. Winter means socks on 24/7. I’ve never owned Ugg’s, I am a cheapie and the knockoffs were good enough for me. Somehow both girls owned several pairs though. Why I’m cheap for me and not for them 🤷🏻‍♀️ Though I think Santa was the splurger.

I wear socks and slippers in the winter. I think part of it is they became popular when I was living in san jose and it doesn't get cold enough there. Thrn living in seattle it's just way too wet for suede in the winter, I don't care what you spray on them to protect. And then nc it got cold but not really long enough to matter.

I can get used to the cold if I need to too. I was in the curling club when I lived in nc, founding member and the 1st 2 time league champion, and my biggest issue was always getting my knees to warm back up. Some weeks the cold would jist3 seep in and even after broomstacking for a couple hours and driving with the heat blasting the 35 min drive home, I'd still have cold, a achey knees. The rest of me was fine though. I do miss it, but the curling club here is in North seattle which is awful to get to from here.

Got 4000 AA miles for both me and DH last night! Stored up a bunch of spins during the week and used them all. Our total haul is up to 11k. :)

Saw that you can only win the 4000 twice. Hope we can both win it again before the sweepstakes ends! 🤞
Wow, we’ve won less than 2,000 total between DH and I. Mostly 40 mile wins and 20% off FTD 🙄

I saved all my spins from this week. DH has only won’t 20% off Hertz. He had 8 spins today and didn’t win anything.
I started kinda late, but 45 spins and NOTHING.
I'm just trying to renew/update my expiration date ... maybe I should try for 4k instead of 40 points? :D

It is easy and free to open up a Schwab checking + brokerage account and there's no monthly fee on either, I would just go ahead with that. The supportal bonus recently changed for the worse so if you were counting on that, unfortunately it requires more new monies deposited. I opened both of mine with a grand total of $20 - I think I had $15 sitting in the brokerage account for years, and then I actually used the checking account for travel because of the free ATM withdrawals everywhere. I have found the Schwab's csr's among the most pleasant to deal with in any industry, and so far have had zero problems with getting any questions taken care of. The cash-out of MRs will be deposited in the brokerage account FYI.

Tip: If the brokerage is held in a joint account, that balance will count toward both player's Schwab Amex Plats (primary cardholder, not AUs). The outcome is that if that balance is over $200K, you'll get a $100 statement credit on each Schwab Plat; over $1M then a $200 statement credit on each Schwab Plat.
Thanks, I’ll do that. Was hoping I could keep the number of accounts with different banking establishments lower if possible since I read about the new “bonus” situation and knew I wouldn’t be getting a bonus at all. But I do need to open a Roth IRA so I might as well do that with Schwab. We already have accounts with 3 other brokerage places (401k, HSA, and another for just stocks) plus our regular bank account and the other banks I’ve opened accounts for bonuses. I guess probably others on this thread are in a similar place with numbers of accounts so I guess I’m in good company. 8-)

This is going to sound funny but I never had any and I live in a very cold are in Northern NY. Then on a trip to Disney I was shopping in Disney springs and saw the Ugg store and they were having a big sale. I bought a really cute pair that had Pom poms on them and love them. I get compliments on them and they don’t even really look like Ugg’s. Who buys their first pair in Florida? 😂🤷🏻‍♀️

:wave2:...of course I live here, so... That said, I love my Uggs and if it's under 60 I'm in them:laughing: One of the benefits of living with my parents this winter was it actually got "really" cold (under freezing) more often so I felt a legitimate reason to wear them:rolleyes1

I'm so sorry that you and your son are dealing with this. The way that some grown-up people treat children's sports is just infuriating. We left that scene when my oldest was just eight or so, after a few season of baseball and soccer. Just could not handle adults (whether parents or coaches) yelling at children. Fortunately none of my kids has any great athletic abilities (that we know of) and were happy with band and drama and other clubs.

For those that have no escrow, where are you saving the money? I want to transfer the $500 (my escrow was) to an account every month. But I kinda want to make it separate from my discover account or my chase savings. I guess I could open another savings account. Maybe I should check the current bonus offers, LOL.

His one coach is on adderall himself (so am I). He's actually been checking with us to make sure Brady's been eating enough as when you first start you have no appetite. Brady luckily needed to drop that Rona 20, LOL. But yeah, hockey is such a small community even w/ how large it is in MI. We have probably 15+ rinks within 30 mins of us. So it's nice we have options. But we weren't planning on having to be thrown back into tryouts. I'm just happy his 2 coaches are willing to get him on a team. It's hard to get "picked" when you're only in front of a new coach for 2 hours.

The coaches claimed to understand his ADD and said 95% of the team has it. I know my son is playing off getting cut. But it is kinda messed up. They cut one of their best players and they are looking to play up a level. It'll be interesting to see how the team fairs. The parents I've told are beyond shocked too.

As for his dad, it was a battle to first get our DD onto adderall. She too was struggling in school which is when my DR said he recommends kids start it. And just like DS, DD was night and day on it. Their dad claims since HE didn't need it when he was in school, our kids shouldn't. I pointed out that I didn't need it till my mid-30's. And that it makes a WORLD of difference. Just happy he finally agrees it's life changing.

If you are ever board, check out puck54.com. Read how grown men talk about 8, 9 and 10 year olds playing hockey! My son is AA, but played AAA. AAA is where it's INSANE! We have a team here that a kid flies in from ATL to play with! He's 11! There's rumors of kids from Chicago and PA doing this too. The other thing that REALLY sucks w/ hockey is sometimes it's the family that can get a kid cut. Luckily I know the coaches (well again 3 of them...the 1 is suspect) liked me and I think the ex. I mean I spent nights drinking with them at hockey tournaments, LOL.

We use Capital one. They have always offered a little higher interest. Of course, all interest on savings is terrible right now. American Express also offers "high" interest.

I have both of those and discover, though the cap 1 was umm ING or something when I opened it. It just sat for many years with less than 10 bucks in it until I started using it last year. I added Amex and Discover so separate savings and to get the higher rate. I probably could have found something higher but one of the reasons I went with them was due to being lazy, they don't do hard pulls so I didn't have to unfreeze my credit or my chex report.

Which reminds me, I need to find out which report the dealership will pull, because, and this annoys me to no end, even though I'm paying cash and not financing, they are still going to pull it to check my credit. I should ask if I bring them a cashiers check if they won't pull it. Ridiculous to do, though I also realize most people won't care about a pull.

ETA - and the check was there today :dogdance:

Ugh I just finished our taxes and we owe $1100--and I see this means we not only get to pay now (which I expected, although not quite this much) but we also get to pay quarterly estimated taxes.

I am pretty sure that the answer is no, but is there a profitable way to pay any of this with a credit card?

If not working on an MSR, you can break even or do a little better with a few cards (Amex BCB, CIU/CFU if you cash out with CSR, etc.). Plus it gives you some extra time to let your cash sit in your savings account earing 0.50% APY. Fees are 1.96% - 1.99% I believe depending on which of the three options you use.

I just “won” a code for 20% off a Hyatt stay. I’ve seen the same promotion in my Facebook ads. Thanks, American 🙄. (Plus who pays for a Hyatt stay?!?!)
I've gotten 15% off a security system, % off flowers and other "useful" stuff. Tonight I did get a Main Cabin Extra upgrade. Too bad the next flight I'm hoping to book with AA is Biz class.

Right now, I have T-Mobile bank (tiered @4%-1%) and Discover at 0.45%. I think AMEX has 0.4%. I'd check DOC for the best current bonuses.

I have CapOne but it's at 0.3% which stinks. If you don't mind telling, is yours getting a higher rate?

Do you have any chase cards with a 5x bonus? That might be worth it.

Not higher unfortunately. Prior to COVID it was the best around.

Would anyone mind taking pity on this Bonvoy Platinum newbie and hold my hand a little through the process?

We want to take advantage of the 5 Suite Night Awards we get in order to bring another family with us to Disneyland.
I was planning on booking a hotel that offers a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom slew that sleeps 8 among other suite options. Would I be able to book a regular room on points (sleeps 4) and then specifically request (and receive) this particular type of suite to sleep 8?

The hotel would be 200,000 points (50k each night- paying for 4 nights and getting the 5th night free).

Is this doable?
Also, if it is doable, do all 8 of us get the free breakfast?

Just seems too good to be true, but I’m hoping!
