Thank you for the tutorial, I'm going to start buying more VGC's. I can't believe I hadn't realized this before, I've been using FACTS for five years. Oh the UR's I've left on the table.

I don't know if you've been to the WA in Orlando before but I loved it there. So nice and relaxing and such good service. When we stayed there we were upgraded to a one bedroom suite with views of the Disney fireworks. It made me spoiled for staying there. Have fun!
Thank you! We have not but I figured we had FNC to burn. I intend to ask at check-in about an upgrade, if we don’t automatically get one. I am eyeing a corner one bedroom Disney view but I’ll take yours also :)

and as soon as I get the auto approval for the CIC I get an email from Amex inviting me to add a Biz Gold card LOL. Couldn't make the spend, and it has lifetime language anyway. Wouldn't you think they would know I had the card already LOL?
Strange. I just received an email too for a Biz Gold but it is NLL.

Hello DISchurners! This is my first port here, I will try to follow the instructions from the first page closely.

In the last 24 months the only card we got was CFF (actually, it's DH's, we haven't added me to the account yet). We've maximized the rotating categories every time.
12/20 - Chase Freedom Flex

Cards I have:
Chase Amazon
BoA Cash rewards
Chase Disney Premier

Other cards we have jointly:
Amex Cash Preferred (plan to downgrade before anniversary in a few days)
Chase Southwest Priority

  • We put all our spending save for mortgage/car lease/HOA on credit cards ~$5000 monthly, though that's an average, it varies a lot.
  • We don't carry balances (DH says he has interest charge allergies)
  • Typically fly out of RDU, which SW Airline services
  • Southwest is our favorite frequent flyer program
  • Hilton is usually our go to Hotel Reward program but don't necessarily like it any better than others (also use Hyatt and Marriott).
  • Have small balances in various programs rn because reddemed everything for summer plans once we got vaccinated :-)
  • Travel party is just us two usually
  • I do a lot of traveling for work and DH comes along when possible for a bit. We also take a lot of leisure trips. The goal is to maximize rewards from both everyday purchases and travel to put back into travel. We plan travel usually a year in advance, sometimes mroe, and travel every two months or so.
:welcome:
most of us start with Chase cards since they have a 5/24 rule...right now the CSP has a 80kUR bonus after spending 4K in the first 3 months which with your spend would work..you could open one and then send your DH a support link so you would get 15k URs and he could also earn the 80k URs..

A person who has shown in the past to have insider info from Chase has posted a new Chase Southwest Card Bonus Rumor
  • ALL Southwest Personal Credit Cards will feature a bonus from May 27 - July 14 of 65,000 RR points for $2,000 MSR.
  • No news on whether this will come to support links.
  • This isn't exactly a great time to earn a CP BUT with travel picking back up, maybe still worth it!
Of course there is also a VERY lucrative offer right now out there on the Southwest Performance Business Card:
  • Earn 80,000 points after spending $5,000 in the first 3 months.
  • And this one is available via support link
Good luck to anybody applying!
SOUTHWEST OFFER NOT AVAILABLE VIA SUPPORT LINK
It's quite possible this has been extensively discussed here already... but maybe worth another mention.

ICYMI - Support links now show this 65k offer. They also say apply by 7/14 so you have a little over 6 weeks. This matches the rumor I shared a few weeks ago exactly so this guy clearly has insider info!

Thanks - hope everybody is doing well! I've been crazy busy with no slow-down in sight so sorry I'm basically MIA.

Thanks for posting this - I really hope it will work for me.
Do you mind if I ask, do you initially have a payment schedule set up through FACTS? For my DD’s tuition we do 4 payments throughout the year (through FACTs).
If you make a gift card payment do those amounts just automatically readjust?
Yes. Ours is set-up for 4 payments too. The balance keeps adjusting down as you add payments. So like where you see the 3 lines (I have already made the May payment), I will enter $193.00 on the first payment line which is Aug and the balance will keep decreasing as I make $193 payments until I get to the partial payment and do that leftover amount. You can do them all at once or over time. I’ve done it both ways.

I was thinking of getting the CSP, I meant to mention that. Thanks for the tip about the referral, that's great.

Thanks so much! Can’t wait to try this! Just need a staples fee free Visa deal.

DD's graduation was going to be a maximum of four tickets in a pod. I sort of discouraged my mom from attending because I didn't really think she'd be anxious to sit in the pod with my ex (I wasn't super excited about it either, but I obviously can deal). Anyways, it's now 8 tickets, no masks (outdoors), and no pod. Hoping she'll consider coming. My brother never invited her to his kids' graduations (but gladly takes the checks for tuition) so this is the first one she's been invited to. Looking at Google Flights to see what the options are. Of course I'm being dragged to the Homestead the week of dd's graduation for work which complicates this. Otherwise we'll be celebrating at the fancy restaurant (it actually is very good) at the casino in Petoskey, Michigan in late June. And how on earth is it just a little more than two months before I send her to college?

Congratulations to your daughter on her graduation! Hopefully your Mom can come!

Does MDD on SW cards still work? So, I could apply for one of the personal cards and, if I get instant approval, apply for one of the other personal cards? If I have to first close an existing SW Chase card, how long should I wait before attempting the MDD? I have an offer for 65k points with a $2k MSR - I know that the general thought is to try to apply near year end so that you hit the MSR early in the next year, maximizing the length of the companion pass, but we have 2 trips coming up this year that I could use the companion pass for, so I'd be fine with having it for this year & next if I can get it all done in time for our first trip (late July). We already have flights booked with points, so getting the companion pass would return points to my account (and, for one trip, to my mom's account, as she booked flights for us when I used up my points, lol)

I think I am currently at 2/24 (from two AmEx cards opened earlier this year). While I'd much prefer to do a MDD with the CSR and CSP, I've only had my current CSP since 6/2019, so I still have a while to go before that's an option. My only other thought is that I am planning more international travel in the next couple of years, so maybe I should look at some other card - tentatively planning a trip to Greece and Italy in either late May/ early June or late June / early July 2022 (Athens, Santorini, and Venice), but I am not sure yet what airline will have the best options for us or which tends to have the best miles redemptions, or if I should consider a hotel branded card instead. I am also hoping to possibly plan a trip to Bora Bora in 2023. We are on the east coast, so if it makes sense to go with the SW cards, I could use SW points to get us as far as California for that trip, and then switch to another airline to get to Bora Bora. Our preferred / closest airport is BDL (Hartford) but we can also easily fly from Providence or, for international trips, Boston, JFK, and LGA are all possible options as well.

Follow up to my prior post: As another poster pointed out, I probably don't have enough time to cancel my current SW card, do the MDD, meet the MSR and get the points posted in time to take advantage of the companion pass for my late July trip, so I am reevaluating options. I am thinking of venturing into business cards (I do sell a bit here & there on Poshmark).

The SW Performance card, after the MSR and bonus would put me just 8,511 short of the companion pass - not sure I can get that done in time to get the companion pass in time for our late July trip, but would be able to hit it in time for our October trip (for which prices were on the higher side - mom booked our flights with her points and she would get back about 25,000 points if I switch my daughter to the companion pass). The ability to get reimbursed for upgraded boarding purchased at the gate could also be useful.

Alternatively, the CIC would get me 75k bonus URs. More flexibility in using points than the SW card, but 5k fewer points, and no companion pass. Also, while we have 2 domestic trips planned this year, we will be doing more international travel. I'm also thinking if I go with the CIC for now, I could drop my SW personal card later this year, wait 30 days, do the MDD on personal cards if there is a good offer available, and hit the spend early next year, to get the companion pass for 2022 & 2023.

Thoughts? Advice? Better ideas?

I've only got a couple minutes here, but wanted to welcome you, and mention not to put each other as AUs on further cards, and in general only downgrade cards (as opposed to cancelling).

I think others may have suggestions about Southwest and maybe hotels (I'm not well versed in those). The CSP and CSR combination (a MDD) might be another option, since you have the spend for both.

We generally go for the Sign Up Bonuses (SUBs) primarily and reward points (or cash back) secondarily, because the SUB is far more lucrative.

Ask here before making any move, to make sure options haven't changed

It does seem like you'll get great benefit out of CP this year. Can you share your math on the SW Performance card you are considering?

I currently have 31,489 points toward companion pass status. Meeting the $5,000 MSR would add 85,000 points: 5,000 for the spend (assuming no bonus categories) plus the 80,000 bonus currently being offered. That would bring me to 116,489 out of the necessary 125,000 points for CP. It's questionable whether I could get that done & have the points post in time to have the CP for our 7/24 trip (For once I wish my daughter's fall tuition bill was available sooner!)
