Which is silly if they cover air miles. I'd only be worrying about the hotel points if something happened while we were already there than before hand. I want the trip insurance because 2 weeks in asia is a big thing but also my friend has a low level clearance so should something change in china while we're traveling and the alert changes I figured it'll help. But we also may be paying cash for hotels at HKDL and SHDL so we can stay on property. Depends on if they are on the UR portal like I've seen before. I've got all summer to do research on insurance though.
But insurance doesn't cover air miles. Miles are not cash and are therefore not insurable is the conclusion I came to from all my reading. Which I get, even if I'm bummed about it. As far as hotels go I just pay a bit extra and always book refundable. This pays off when prices drop and now it's about to pay off with this having to cancel my whole trip thing so it's my go to hotel booking type. Unlike airfare hotels don't tend to charge obscene amounts for refundable reservations so it works out for me.

DD in San Francisco called to say her company is strongly urging them all to work from home until the end of the month. She works for a tech company so can work at home easily but it will mean more team coordination online. She also has 5-6 housemates at any given time so she will still have opportunities to catch it!

Transferred some extra UR to my SW acct in preparation for booking Oct flights tomorrow. It's always fun coordinating my trips to Orlando with DH's dive trips to the Caribbean. We have become spoiled with having lounge access so whoever has a longer wait can be comforted by that. I have a bunch of credits from my May trip decreasing in price so I need to check the rules on how many I can use per flight for mine. Looks like only 2 credits plus credit card. Hope the prices are decent tomorrow because the credits all expire end of Oct. I'll be stuck with those prices most likely.

Just had a thought - if I book a flight now using 2 credits and cancel it, would I be able to combine two credits into one?

I’m usually asleep. I just set alarms every 20-30 minutes starting at 7am, rollover in bed, and check to see if flights are available.
Works for me!
If I want to use travel funds, should I book a dummy flight in August to save time and then just change it once October lights up?

Chase and their emails! Like, there is talk of the Olympics possibly being canceled, so please let's do this as an incentive!

When I first got this email "OMG that would be SO cool!"
Now "yeah, no... I'm good..."

Its an awkward time to have allergies for sure haha Lots of eye glances. Its not coronavirus! Its Pollenavirus!
Every freaking tree is blooming like it's their last chance ever where I live. Everyone has allergies- and we all think the other person coughing has The Virus :rotfl2:

I just did a Costco run. Left without buying everything I wanted because it was a zoo!
I did one half hour after opening today. I just wanted some food stuff. I am scarred. I will not be returning for a couple weeks. Apparently they got their first shipment of toilet paper in a week. Litteraly people with empty carts zooming back to the TP area first thing. Lines almost halfway down the store. Like Christmas but every cart had a 2 Toilet papers and usually 1 or 2 paper towels (but they ran out part way through my shopping trip) and 1 or 2 water cases (I'm still ROFLing there). A Costo guy was back in the paper section yelling "one way traffic, get your stuff and go down an aisle to exit! ONE WAY TRAFFIC! Two per person! Out of Paper Towels! ONE WAY TRAFFIC HERE!”

If you’re thinking about going to Costco- be ready for crazy or just go to your local grocery store. It’s probably safer

The self checkouts at Costco are awesome! We have them at my closest Costco and the only time recently I didn't use them was when I was cashing in my certificate.

People would steal too much at mine. My Target has to seal off their coupon slots because people put scraps of paper in instead of the actual coupoto keep reusing coupons and others figured out they could fool the sensor by putting it in and pulling it out instead of dropping it... Imagine what they’d try to walk out with at Costco 😂 the store would spend so much time turning people back at the door to go pay for all their items... it just would be a mess...

lol DH said he got called out last week for not doing a 20 count with soap. I thought it was funny that someone was policing the handwashing. I have been doing my singing while washing. I think I am good. And my knuckles are bloody to prove it.

My hands are so dry. I picked up some more travel size lotions at Target today. I figure eventually the rest of America will realize their hands are dry too and we’ll have a run on lotions next LOL

Ok, so I finally got booked with Delta, it says cancel for any reason in 24 hours. Well an hour later, the flights are 3000 miles less LOL. any reason to not cancel and rebook?

ETA it just went back to the same I paid, their site must be going bonkers with the insanity.

I once rebooked at 23 hours to save 1K miles.

Our county schools(K-12) just closed till April 20th and are going to try online education. The teachers know nothing about it yet. lol

Ironically, at 5 pm the governor had a 5p press conference saying that there no new cases, they are already sending some of the existing cases home and not to panic....
When is the government going to learn telling people not to panic is the exact wrong thing to say?

Your Costco story sounds horrible but also hilarious lol. I’ve never even been in a Costco before

Not a great day for me. We decided to pull the plug on our trip.
Also my sons college sent notice that they are going to remote learning. Spring break is next week so we are planning to help him pack up and move him out of his dorm this weekend. I don’t see why he would stay on campus although at this point it appears that he can. I think it would be more for exchange students or students who can’t get home. The university is supposed to send more details soon. Tomorrow is his last day of classes for the week anyways. I also doubt we will get any refund. Maybe for the meal plan? I have no idea.
Just announced the same tonight for our DS. He’s only two hours away, so we’ll bring him home. But they are leaving campus open, but no in person classes or meetings for the rest of the semester, so I doubt we’ll get a room and board credit since he could technically stay.

I can’t believe how many schools are doing this. My mind is just spinning over everything today.

Right but some cover the fee to redeposit the miles, do they do the same if the hotel has a cancellation fee. It's really more for when we're there than before but I'll start researching in june after they've all updated what they will and won't cover after this mess.

I guess I shouldn't be amazed by the dishonesty of people, but it does shock me.

I'm not sure what more to say to people who are still crying and screaming "This is just the flu!"

No, it isn't the bloody flu.

People need to stop being selfish. Whining on Facebook about missing crowds at basketball games. We are living through a major historic event. None of the actions taken at this point have been done "just because." They are all Armageddon, "break-glass-in-case-of-emergency" actions.

Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson are positive for Covid19. That will scare people more than anything.

And get ready. The cases in this country are about to go through the roof. These actions are priming folks for that. We'll get through this together but man, people need to get on board.

So here’s my experience from visiting a doctor today. Let me preface it by stating I only went for annual physical, I’m not feeling sick or anything. I’ve had this appt scheduled for weeks before crap hit the fan, so I decided to keep it and go, although not super excited to possibly be near sick people. Everyone seemed fine though, until the end of my visit. A woman came in saying she was a teacher, she’s sick, and needs to be tested for coronavirus. Apparently her job will not allow her to go back to work until she proves that she doesn’t have coronavirus. The doctor asked her symptoms, and said she cannot be tested because she doesn’t meet the criteria. When the teacher pushed, the lab tech came out and told her bluntly “even if you did meet the criteria, we can’t test you. We have no testing kits. You won’t find anywhere in our area that has any.” Very disheartening to hear that they cannot even test if they needed to. I’m sure there are so many more cases out there unconfirmed because of this shortage. I’m sure our numbers in the US will get a lot worse. 😢

South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control does have a procedure in place for testing (I'm assuming your SC is South Carolina) and if a person meets the criteria they will be tested, however it seems to me from my reading that there may be a communication block between health care providers and the DHEC. I am sure this will work itself out shortly. Since I am traveling to South Carolina this weekend, I've been reading as much detail as I can. And, sounds like a bit of hysteria with the school system that employs the teacher.

Yes, I’m in the upstate area. We do have one confirmed travel related case in our county. But definitely over reaction from the school system! The teacher had no recent travel history and no symptoms of coronavirus. The doctor was willing to write a letter for her stating such so she could try to go back to work. I’ll wonder what the final outcome was.
If I recall correctly you’re going to Hilton Head right? We’ve been having beautiful weather over the past few days, so I hope it continues for your trip!! We go to HHI every year; it’s one of our faves!

I'm a big fan of refundable hotel reservations also. Usually I can get within $5 of the best price by booking senior or AAA rates. If I'm remembering to watch it carefully, I'll cancel last minute to get a better rate once I'm on the road if a better rate is available. The best thing about points is that they are almost always refundable up until 1-2 days before the nights in question.
