Not a great day for me. We decided to pull the plug on our trip.
Also my sons college sent notice that they are going to remote learning. Spring break is next week so we are planning to help him pack up and move him out of his dorm this weekend. I don’t see why he would stay on campus although at this point it appears that he can. I think it would be more for exchange students or students who can’t get home. The university is supposed to send more details soon. Tomorrow is his last day of classes for the week anyways. I also doubt we will get any refund. Maybe for the meal plan? I have no idea.

Just talked to my DD. She will stay on campus. They will continue to have nursing clinicals, which I'm glad about. I can't believe they cancelled the rest of the semester!
We were supposed to go there this weekend for Honor's Convocation, which is also obviously cancelled. I just got of the phone with Bonvoy and they waived the cancellation and redeposited my 50K free night. Next up, getting my Delta flights cancelled.

My son is staying too. He lives off campus so not in the petri dish of a dorm, which I'm glad about, but the reason he's staying is so he can work in the library. I'm hoping the library doesn't turn into a hotspot for social gatherings now that classes aren't meeting.

And his profs are saying that they plan to cover the same material that they would have, just remotely. Not sure how that's actually going to work out.

I live in Broward and have been to the Port 4 times in the last week or so to teach classes. I also have asthma. I am hoping things stay under control. Can't say I would have minded being quaratined in the Maldives :-) I'm glad I don't have any international travel booked for the near future. I think it is very possible that the trip to NYC in April with my niece might get cancelled depending on how things play out. It's a shame our country didn't respond as quickly and efficiently the way Taiwan, Vietnam and Germany did. Germany has had 3 times as many cases as the US and only 2 deaths. Taiwan has the least amount of cases per capita.
I think when we start testing we’ll see that this has been circulating for a while. My guess there will be thousands.

UVA closed today. It was expected. I do feel terribly for everyone inconvenienced. As well as those economically impacted.

This pandemic is also making me apathetic about travel except to visit my parents who are in their late 70s. I'm sure once everything gets back to normal I'll feel differently.

We are making plans in case we have to work 100% remote. Capital One (pretty close to our biggest employer) announced today they were going 100% remote. We're a small office so I'm not sure we'll make that move unless things get a lot worse in Richmond.

Praying for strong leadership and unity in our country!

And there goes DS’s accepted student day also. Been thinking about the other 2 and their logistics but this wasn’t on my mind yet as it was still a few weeks away. Off to cancel hotel. The economic impact from these decisions are going to be huge. Hopefully it will make an impact and things can get back to normal sooner than later

My son goes to the library to get work done too. I was thinking the same thing. Next year, he is living off campus. If that was the case this year, I am sure he would stay at school even if the classes are taught remotely.

I wonder how many students will stick around. My DD lives off campus too. A couple of her friends and roommates have been recalled from study abroad. My guess is the underclassmen who live in MI will go home. My DD is a little anxious...worried about going to work out etc. All social(Greek life) stuff has been suspended. It's not like college kids are going to stay isolated.

Our county schools(K-12) just closed till April 20th and are going to try online education. The teachers know nothing about it yet. lol

Ironically, at 5 pm the governor had a 5p press conference saying that there no new cases, they are already sending some of the existing cases home and not to panic....

This is somewhat encouraging for Arizona, but I am sure it's only a matter of time.

Still waiting to hear about a local Guard event my son's school is supposed to host this weekend, but since it's spring break here I don't even know who at the district office is around to make such decisions.

I asked upthread but I didn't see an answer- when canceling a Hilton Honors reservation made on points, do the points just immediately go back in your account, or is there a waiting period?

I've read so much about "great travel deals" and such, in the wake of everything going on, so I checked to see if our rate at a Homewood Suites in Rancho Cucamonga has changed any... apparently they haven't had cancellations because the room type I am currently booked in doesn't even show available any more!

I also, on a whim, checked Expedia to see if our June DL trip could be gotten any cheaper. The actual Hyatt House price is the same as it was and I still don't show anything closer for a reasonable price.

Clearly I am looking in the wrong areas for lower rates!

Our school district just cancelled the band trip to Disney World that was supposed to be next week. Feel so bad for these kids. I don’t have a band student but I know they really look forward to it. DS has a state completion that is 4 days at the end of the month for a club he is in. I am thinking that might be done also. Haven’t heard officially though.

When I cancelled the WA Maldives they told me it could take up to 10 days before I see the points back in my account. Same for the FNC.

Good to know; thank you!

I have until March 18 to cancel this particular one. I hope the organizers have told us by then! (The event is supposed to start March 21). I would never travel to Rancho Cucamonga for any other reason so we would definitely cancel if the event doesn't happen.

So here’s my experience from visiting a doctor today. Let me preface it by stating I only went for annual physical, I’m not feeling sick or anything. I’ve had this appt scheduled for weeks before crap hit the fan, so I decided to keep it and go, although not super excited to possibly be near sick people. Everyone seemed fine though, until the end of my visit. A woman came in saying she was a teacher, she’s sick, and needs to be tested for coronavirus. Apparently her job will not allow her to go back to work until she proves that she doesn’t have coronavirus. The doctor asked her symptoms, and said she cannot be tested because she doesn’t meet the criteria. When the teacher pushed, the lab tech came out and told her bluntly “even if you did meet the criteria, we can’t test you. We have no testing kits. You won’t find anywhere in our area that has any.” Very disheartening to hear that they cannot even test if they needed to. I’m sure there are so many more cases out there unconfirmed because of this shortage. I’m sure our numbers in the US will get a lot worse. 😢

This must be the same disney band trip my son is (was?) going on and they didn’t cancel today. I’m sure they will soon. Are you getting a refund? They told us nonrefundable. The packages our kids had included 3 day tickets that should be able to be separated and used at another time, I would think. If anyone has experience with band tickets, please I’d appreciate any advice as this is the first time one of my kids participated in this. I have no faith that his school cares enough to try and get the parents some value out of this.

Is your DS going to UVA? I know you mentioned he wanted to visit.

DD had a Women's Society of Engineering program (just a day on campus really) she was supposed to go to at UVa this month. I was really excited about it because she wants to go to UVa Engineering and I wanted her to get some exposure to the different engineering majors. Oh well. Small potatoes compared to what a lot of people are dealing with.

Yes, I cannot even begin to imagine the economic impact. And that's a lot of what I do for a living:)

He hasn’t decided. He got into both U of Michigan and UVA Engineering programs. He really liked UM when we toured so was hoping this tour would help him decide. We did the generic tour last fall. I really liked UVAs financial packet much better so that is my preference. Lol Though WVU also has an excellent Engineering program and much better x thousands in tuition for us.

I don’t have a band student so I am not sure. It sounded like from the comments on FB they were told no but don’t know if that is final word.

  • Currently SW is offering flights through 8/10/20 and this next release will take their schedule out to 10/30/20. I'll try to post additional reminders as the date draws nearer. This is my Final reminder 😊
For those that care about "release timing" it's been all over the board recently (all times Eastern):
  • The release on 12/11/19 went live at 9:10am.
  • The release on 10/30/19 went live at 7:15am.
  • The release on 9/26/19 went live at 7:30am.
  • The release on 8/15/19 went live at 10:41am.

Having never done one of these release dates with SW before, do you just keep refreshing until it lights up?
What's the best page to do this from? Any advice?

I’m usually asleep. I just set alarms every 20-30 minutes starting at 7am, rollover in bed, and check to see if flights are available.
