My parents are 70 and 74. My Mom has Parkinson’s. My Dad has sleep apnea. They left last Saturday for a 2 week cruise on Princess. They could have cancelled and got all their money back but chose not too. Which is a long way of saying I think I need to stay off this thread for a couple days. They say they are doing fine but I can’t help but really start to worry. I really do think a lot of this is inflated by the media but when you are in all of the risk groups I do think it is legitimate to worry about.

I do get that. I am not at all concerned for myself, or my spouse and kids, and plan to take our planned trips. But my dad has Stage 4 cancer, and while he sure isn't going anywhere, he does go to the hospital 4-6 times each two weeks for chemo and other tests/visits. I don't know what would happen to him if he were to come in contact with it.

-probably a good idea! I hope they have a wonderful time and all goes well. Before we left for our cruise all we heard was doom and gloom about wildfires- the air quality was fine and fires not a risk. Then it was this...and in a few months it will be something else. So please remember there are news agencies that have to fill the air 24/7 so...they do😕

Yep. It's a warning for everyone, really. This is essentially the US government shooting a torpedo through the cruise industry for the next two quarters.

This should have happened after Diamond Princess probably. The cruise industry is about 60 billion I think. Airlines 250 billion. If we (taxpayers) have to save them, I hope we give a little thought to all the regular folks about to lose jobs because of this nightmare.
So the big question is do we lose all our AA miles when they go under? 🤪

This is correct. It is about where the HQ are and where companies trade. Carnival gets it from both sides because they trade both in the US and UK.

i dont quite think the US government would bail them out esp when their ships dont follow US regulations since most of their ships are registered elsewhere. Labor laws are thrown out, other provisions are thrown out. to me, it feels like they are just a company with some domestic business but is mostly international. If they fail, it isnt gonna hurt the US economy like if the banks or airline fails.

Thats just me though.

in person? I tried online once and it wouldn't go through because it wanted the 4 digit AMEX code, but on these dumb Amex gift cards the code is a 3 digit code.

It was in person. With a bunch of groceries. I tried self checkout but it had to be at a regular register so they could enter the amount. They can be a real pain to use.

Everyone will have their hand out, but the airlines will come first. We'll see what happens, but the next few weeks are going to be bumpy.

My mom and stepdad have 3 international trips scheduled this year- Russia in July on Viking, Italy in Sept with a tour group with my uncle also, and Canada in Oct on Viking. Right now they're waiting to see what happens. They are all healthy but in their 70's. I'm really hoping the situation is better by then and they don't have to cancel.

I didn’t end up making it to target today. I slept until 11 (really 10 with the time change) and then took a nap from 3:30-5:30 pm. I’ve been really tired lately. I looked on both my target and Walmart apps and don’t see hand sanitizer in my stores. They both have wipes available though.

Phooey. Trying to help ds out with something. Can you use an Amex gift card at Target to but a Disney gift card? I hate those Amex gift cards
Yes it'll work. The only quirk I've had with AmEx GCs is they don't auto drain, so if you are buying something for more than your card balance you'll have to have the cashier enter the card balance before you swipe. But it's a valid form of payment, nothing sneaky, so there's no issue using a cashier.

There's not a 4 digit code on the front like a normal CC? I recall it looking just like a CC the last one I had. I bought a discounted GC at BJs online with it and then used the small balance left towards a GC at Target in store.

From the site which shall not be named - a small piece of good news I guess:
Due to the outbreak of COVID-19 in China, Shanghai Disney Resort has been closed since early January. Today, via their website, Shanghai Disney Resort announced some operations will tentatively resume on March 9th. While Shanghai Disneyland Park will remain closed, the Shanghai Disneyland Hotel, Disneytown, and Wishing Star Park will resume limited operations.

(if you want to read the full post - just find them on twitter)

Yes there is. But for some stupid reason you use the 3 digit code for the Amex gift cards instead of the 4. But Sam’s will only take the 4 digit. This happened to me last month. Amex denied the transaction yet took the funds out of my card balance for a week.

I think there were a few others that were targeted for a 50k/2.5k upgrade offer to the AmEx Brilliant card along with me recently. Just got an email today with a 100k/5k offer now. Subject line is "you deserve 100,000 points and elevated travel." Says it's available until 4/29 but I think AmEx has pulled offers early before. If you get the email hang on to it, there's a link with your invite code within.

If you haven't had the Brilliant card before, taking the upgrade will prevent you from getting the sign up bonus on the card too.

For any of you who has a bottle of hand sanitizer, can you look and see if it has an expiration date? When I end up buying some, I’m wondering f I should get an extra to put in the linen closet for next time. Does it expire??
