Oh good that makes me feel better! I’m a little worried I won’t know when it actually starts lol
when my water broke 10 days early with my first I had to go into the Dr because I wasn’t certain I wasn’t just peeing my pants (only a tiny water when I stood up). They sent me straight to the doctor and DH was about 45 minutes away. It was about 9 hours later that I gave birth. I didn’t have an epidural with any of my babies and even if I didn’t realize when labor actually started I definitely knew in plenty of time before I gave birth!

I totally agree with this, however even if I'd had an MR card for a little over 2 years, which would be the oldest it could be when I found this thread and started, it wouldn't ever get consistent spend. There are a few of us here that don't have the benefit of a P2 and some of us don't have the spend to support other cards while meeting MSR, sometimes it's hard enough to meet the bigger spends. I'm looking at having to MS, if it's even a possibility at my walmarts that I don't want to set foot in, just to meet anything over $3k because I can't do them organically without plastiq to pay my mortgage.

I agree that chase lets us know the rules, but the other thing with chase is I can be under 1/24 and sock drawer more than 1 of their cards and they'll still approve me for another (knock on wood). While amex, even if we knew more about the rules, appears to be quite arbitrary. Sure I've had the card about 2 years and I generally only use it when there are good offers on it and with those I've more than made up for the af.

I just have to accept that I may need to diversify outside of Amex and not get a 2nd hotel card to go with my Hyatt, or get the Marriott and keep it (shudder).

Apologies if I was unclear. I meant moving forward. As a long term strategy, factor an Amex MR earning card into your card portfolio. By ongoing spend, I mean choose something nominal each month to pay with the card. Let it hit your statement and then pay it. It doesn't have to be a large amount. This will go towards having a card that gets consistent use and goes towards building the relationship with a card you will never cancel but also aren't paying a fee. The nominal points your earn each month for the nominal spend will serve their purpose down the line at some point. You can't go back 2 years ago to get an MR card but you can take the steps towards diversifying now or soon and that may help you down the road.

I totally understand that each of us has our own unique situations with either no P2, a reluctant P2, challenges with meeting MSRs and many other factors. I think it is exactly why we have built such a unique and diverse community here. As our benevolent dictator says, each way to churn is the right way to churn. It's nice that non one judges anyone on what they do and how they do it. A person with a P2 and/or ability to meet a high MSR organically is definitely going to get their goals accomplished faster than someone in P1 mode and no high organic spending. However, offering up ideas, advice and suggestions is great for the community as a whole. What may not work for one person, may just take a little longer or may work for another person.

I've wanted a second Aspire for quite some time. However, attaining that goal will require patience and planning. I picked up a no fee Hilton card that I have no use for. I am hoping that in time, I will get an upgrade offer to an Aspire. I have no guarantee that it will happen. I decided I wanted a CIP and a Hyatt card. I have not been under 5/24 since 2012. Getting under LOL/24 is an exercise in patience for someone like me. Certain planes, trains and automobiles seem to be crashing and burning in the churning community. So that requires some people to look for other means of transport if they don't want to risk being stranded.

I think long term planning and a bit of patience can go a long way, in addition to accepting that the best laid plans don't always work out. Many who have been following these over the years are well aware that PlanePrincess and I have managed plan some pretty cool trips with this points and miles hobby. Yet at the same time, I could be the poster child for best laid plans not working out. Very few of our trips have gone off without resorting to Plan B, Plan C and in one or two cases, Plan D.

While we are talking Aspire- I originally planned to line those up (P2 and myself). Is there ever a reason to NOT do that? @calypso726 and others who have P2s with the same hotel card as themselves, did you time them all together?

Yes, do them at the same time or close to the same time. PlanePrincess and I both applied for the Aspire on the same day. I think the IHG we are a month apart and even that has had its challenges. When we are able to go for the Hyatt card we will be applying the same day.

Does anyone know if the chase/Amex offers reset? I am still showing my savings from last year. Can I reset them or call and have them reset?

They do not reset. Mine is highest on my longest card ($600) even though I never put offers on that card now I have had it since 2009. I guess you could call and ask but that seems like it would be more trouble than it is worth.

Applied for SW Biz Performance on 1/2/20. MSR was met about 2 weeks after getting the card. The plan was to apply for the SW Biz Premier today but I'm freaking out I'll get denied (I've only ever got the "need for information" and "too many cards" letter from chase once.....but it was for this card). Should I just go with the personal with the 75,000 pt bonus and call it a day (I'm 3/24 now)? Or apply for the biz, give it a couple days, and then go with the personal before 2/10 when it expires....Thoughts?

The recommended pacing between Chase cards is 2-3 months so if you don’t need the CP soon I would wait to apply.
Also check the credit limits on your Chase cards and reduce if close to 50% of household income or around $70k....

I opened SW Perf Biz on 10/14/19 and the SW Premier Biz on 12/16/19.

I have 3 Chase cards with about $80k limits. One card carries $30k in limits, does nothing for me, but has no fee so I keep it open. I suppose I should close it to make it easier to open new Chase cards going forward? Also, another Chase card (the CF) has $35k limits, which is much more than it needs. Can I, and should I, ask to have it lowered?
PS: I have more than enough limits on all my cards that my usual monthly spend is between 2% and 4% of limits so there are no worries about upsetting my balances to limits ratio.

Dh and I are going to apply for the Aspire at the same time, probably in the fall but definitely after September. I think I'll apply for the Hyatt the same time of year he did so that our free night dates will be approximately at the same time.
