Yeah - you could just do www instead of old. I generally post DISchurners stuff using the old Reddit since that’s what I use but it should work either way.

And that link will show every single comment in every thread on DISchurners. I use it often to make sure I don’t miss anything!
I tried www and then just with removing the old and it stated not found.
Oh well...at least your original one works. I'll just bookmark that one.
Thanks

Yes, you got that right. @afan You really want to not try daily or weekly. That is probably more of a negative than a positive. While no one really the particulars, it typically recommended to put some spend on your existing cards and then wait a bit (like a month) and retry. In some cases, going for a different card (non-Hilton) has worked. I think there was an MR card you were looking at?
And even that doesn’t always work. I put a $2k purchase on p2 card and some misc spend here and there across his cards, and he has never gotten out of pop up jail.

If I can't get the hilton card then I have to pivot to marriott and will just stick with chase rather than deal with amex. I don't need an MR card unless it's to transfer to hilton. I want to keep the hilton card, if they don't want me to have it then I'm not interested in having any more of their stuff. I'd probably try for the DL personal some time far down the line to up my miles but if they don't want me to have what I want then I don't care to have more than the 1 card I have. I get good offers on it and generally only use it for that because it's not a good card past the bonus. However the Hilton has categories I'd actually use like the grocery. It would get weekly use unless I had an msr that needed that spend.

I totally get it. It’s just so crazy with AmEx. The Hilton might not go through but a Bonvoy might or Delta or whatever. There’s just no consistency.

@afan I believe there was a theory Amex can see everytime you try for a card and get the popup, and trying daily may be a bad strategy.

@Albort @Lain either of you remember this convo?

Not a theory. You can see every application you submit, even if canceled, on Amex’s application status site: https://www262.americanexpress.com/eaol/welcome.do

Obviously, Amex has access to this information as well.

So this is like when my daughter wants a cookie before dinner... if she asks everyday she will never get it. BUT if she cleans up her room and asks once in awhile, willing to accept no as an answer...eventually she might get a yes if she catches mom in the right mood??

And I understand that, but when the only thing I need is the thing they don't want to give me, I can't mess up my plan just to see if they'll give me something else. I realize I could transfer the MR to either Hilton or Marriott but then I may be stuck with a card that I don't want rather than one'd I'd keep. So I'll stop trying and wait until my Feb statement cuts and if the popup doesn't go away I'll move on. I can't go for a chase card until March anyway but I could be earning URs or Hyatt points that I actually need for this trip which is why I find it annoying. And while I realize it's not a denial in the same sense, it is and that just irritates me. To me it's worse than a regular denial because they aren't looking at anything other than what I've spent so far and are saying you aren't good enough, we don't want you and we don't care how much you make or what your credit score is, we think you suck.

It's also hard if this makes me put all my eggs in chase's basket to make this trip happen, I was counting on amex to help spread things out and I realize I could use their Marriott cards but what good is that if I don't want to keep them anyway, I'll just further peeve them off.

Since Amex is the topic of the night: Amex won't give me the card I want, but is full of upgrade and spend offers tonight! I've been stuck in pop-up jail for a few months and have tried for the Amex Delta Platinum monthly with no change. I haven't tried for anything else but have considered the Amex Platinum Personal or Business Gold as my next card (had the business platinum but cancelled...knowing that I would probably see a pop-up). Now I have an offer to upgrade my personal gold to a platinum for a 60,000 bonus. Hoping I can get opinions and clarification:

1) If I upgrade, I know I could never get the bonus on this card again. I am ok with that if it wouldn't count as a new personal card. I am still pretty active with Chase and would like to keep myself at 4/24 (where I am now). Am I correct that this wouldn't take a new slot for a personal card when counting my X/24?

2) If I decided it was worth using a X/24 slot for 15,000 extra points (the offer I have pulled previously), would you recommend trying to apply for the platinum first to see if I get a pop-up before taking the upgrade offer? If so, is there any chance I would lose the upgrade offer?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts you have!

Are you saying your DDs don’t have you wrapped around their little finger? I always knew to ask my dad if I wanted something that typically wasn’t allowed. Just like DS comes to me before DH :)

You can apply for the plat first, assuming instant approval, then quickly take the upgrade offer. Did this for my DH recently. I’d say worth a 5/24 spot considering you’re getting 2 SUBs on 1 spot. Assuming you can use all the credits.

I would not take the upgrade by itself and lock yourself out of a SUB.

75k on the new plat is possible. Try incognito, different devices, VPN, etc. And if you have a P2, a support link for even more points.

ETA: Will also add that there’s theory that taking an upgrade offer helps with the pop-up. The additional spend you’ll be doing for the SUB will definitely help.

Well in this example Dad is Chase...and if you only ask every 90 minutes you get what you want. Mom is Amex... no rhyme or reason to those rules!!

So should I take the upgrade on my DL biz that I don't want that they keep offering every single time I log in for over a year I think, a really long time anyway. It's not really a use for me but I could stomach the increased AF if it would help.

Does the offer come with a bonus? If so, I’d say worth a try. If not, then maybe not. The evidence (if you can even call it that) I’ve seen is anecdotal.

Looking back through my email it didn't, which is why I hadn't done it. It expired on the 29th. It was a $100 statement credit after 2k in spend which would have basically kept the af the same for the year after spending 2k, awful offer. Maybe it'll get better with the refreshed cards but that also means a higher af. :confused3

I think they just don't like me...

Replying on the bolded comment: Well, Chase does the exact same thing when an applicant is over 5/24. If you aren't under 5/24 your income, credit score and relationship with Chase does not matter. You aren't getting a card.

To get approved by Chase, you gotta play by their rules. Fortunately, it is easy to figure out the rules with Chase.

Amex is a little tougher to figure out. You may be right that the only thing they are looking at is what you have spent, but then again, that may not be all. Maybe they are also looking at how long you have been a customer, how long you've held their card(s), how many of their cards have you opened and closed after a year. Perhaps a combination of those factors are what determines if a person is in pop up jail or not.

I will agree, that putting all your eggs into one basket makes things very tough. This is why I have always been an advocate of diversification. If you want to diversify, then it is prudent to build a good relationship with Amex. Choose a no fee Amex MR earning card to keep forever and use for ongoing spend. Get an Amex BBP. If you don't do business cards, then get an Amex Everyday card. Both are no fee, both earn full use MR points that can transfer to their airline and hotel partners, both can earn more than 1 MR/$ spent. Hope this helps :flower3:
