Sorry, I have never actually booked a flight directly with URs. I know when I have canceled hotels and rental cars, the points go back my UR pool for that card. Do you have another UR card to keep them active (assuming you have not zeroed out your URs)?

I have no intention of cancelling the flight. I currently have 3 cards, but the one this flight was booked on, will have the AF hit before we fly, so I will want to cancel that card. I am just wondering if doing that has any effect on my booked flight. I still have many active UR's, parked on my current card that I am using.

Is it better to transfer to Hyatt instead of booking through the Chase portal?
If you are staying at Place/House yes, 100%. If you book through the portal you won't get the free breakfast.
We booked Hyatt Regency once through the portal because it was cheaper, but that night didn't count towards status.

This is what we have booked this year.
Anaheim Hyatt Place, 2 nights 24,000. Cash price $366 - CSR 24,400
Page Az 1 night 12,000. Cash $241
Moab Utah, 3 nights 24,000, Cash $865

We never stay at Hyatts. I was just curious since I have no experience with them. We really don't stay at a lot of places and most of our experience is with Hilton. Do you have to be a certain status with Hyatt to get the free breakfast. I'm not sure I even have an account with them lol

it really depends where I am going and what is available. Like for AUS, Brisbane and Cairns are mainly Marriott but for Sydney, I booked the Park Hyatt. So Hyatt and Marriott are good for me also.

We're going to Ireland! I'll look at both. We were big Hilton people but the last couple times we stayed things were broken. Like for example the door wouldn't lock when it closed, and they wouldn't move us so we had to basically barricade the door at night. So we're branching out.

I'll be interested in a review of the Moab property!

Thanks for this. I don't think we have any branches will have to look. I don't have interest in any of their other cards (since AA is now not happening). I did see the 24 months since closing a card. So, this will be a one and done (rinse and repeat every few years...possibly) Would be a good way to get some Disney Tickets paid for.

I got the Citi Premier in late 2018, back when AF was waived first year. Used most of the points for Disneyland Hotel. It didn't show up online and I had to call the cruise and tours department too. Price was the same as direct with Disney with the 1.25x multiplier. When the card came up for renewal, I had 16k points left that I could have used on something, but I really wanted to save it for DLH or VGC after getting another SUB. Here are all the options I considered:

- Cancel the card, wait 24 months: would have to use up the points.
- Ask for a retention offer: read horror DPs of people doing that and then finding out their card was accidentally (?) canceled!
- Product change to a no AF card within the same family: read DPs of people's card number changing and so resetting the clock. Would also have to use the points within 60 days.

In the end, I decided to keep the card another year. Figured since AF was waived, I'll just count like like it wasn't waived (weird logic?). Plan is 24 months from when I opened the first Premier, apply for another Premier, cancel the first, use the orphan points with the SUB to book DLH or VGC before the canceled card points expire. Hoping it all works out and they don't change the rules in the interim, lol.

I love when I can find great deals using travel partners with Chase. I just booked flights on United flying Copa Airlines from GUA-MGA for 8,000 miles +$37.60 per person. The cash rate was $324. Saved 19,000 points per person by checking travel partners instead of booking through the portal. And just to update - Chase was wanting me to call on Sunday to transfer points, but today it went through instantly!

I literally just got off the phone helping a friend transfer to book Hyatt... Hyatt site-12k night, thru the portal- 26k+ per night for the SAME hotel! (she was so excited about this 'secret')
Wow I didn't expect that. That's surprising to me! Idk if we've ever really stayed at a Hyatt. We don't have any immediate travel plans, but I'll keep that in mind for next time for go somewhere!

You just have to be a member and book through Hyatt to get free breakfast at Hyatt Place/House.

We always try to stay at hotels where breakfast is included, feeding a family of 4 gets expensive. It wasn't a big deal when our girls were little and we could share our meals with them but now that they each want their own adult meal it gets really expensive to eat out.

The rule is that the military person/or spouse has to use one of the tickets, he can buy up to 6 tickets. Have him buy them from Shades of green, they will sell the tickets activated. Once you receive the activated tickets you can assign them to anyone. The intention is for people not to resell the tickets, but in your situation I don't think you all would be violating the rules on purpose if you reassign it to someone else in the family. Does that make sense?
That's still not proper use of the ticket or the Salute so I wouldn't advocate that. However, I'm sure these things occur once it's purchased.

I went ahead and made a new account just in case we stay there in the near future. I can't believe I never knew this!

The flights wouldn’t be cancelled....if the card you used has travel protection and you cancel before the trip you lose that

amen to this! I actually have been using FNC for various hotels on lower category redemptions lately b/c the free breakfast is what my family wants!

Is it better to transfer to Hyatt instead of booking through the Chase portal?

I look at it no different than transferring to airlines vs booking via portal. Which one will cost me more points. When we did the Park Hyatt Tokyo last year it was 30k per night. That was far less points than what I needed via the UR portal because the hotel was over $1,000 per night.

We're going to Ireland! I'll look at both. We were big Hilton people but the last couple times we stayed things were broken. Like for example the door wouldn't lock when it closed, and they wouldn't move us so we had to basically barricade the door at night. So we're branching out.

We tend to stick to Radisson Blu in Europe. I loved our points stay in Dublin so much that we are going back again rather than trying out a different property. Europe Radisson Blu properties are the reason DH and I each have the Radisson Rewards Premier VISA cards. It’s a sock drawer card but those 40k anniversary points on each card each year are quite handy for our Europe trips. The card gives you gold status so you get early check in, late checkout and upgrades.
