Someone at the gym today was telling me we should travel as early as we can with our baby since I mentioned traveling after the baby is 1. I wish we could do that but I just don’t think I can book flights right now before the baby is even born. If we wanted to go next September when the baby is 5 months we would have to book flights right now. Will it be completely horrible with a 1 year old?
Every kid is different. And some will be different every time they travel. I know I’ve probably told the story before but DS was adopted at 12 months. We met him on Tuesday and had to fly to another province in China on Friday. He flew as a lap baby (2 hour flight) because we didn’t book the flight and had no choice, we didn’t even get seats together, although the Chinese flight attendant made another passenger move so we could be closer. Then a week later we flew to Hong Kong (another short flight) and the next morning nonstop 12 hour flight to Chicago, with DS in his own seat. We all lived. Those weren’t the most pleasant flights but they could have been worse. The lap baby flights were the worst IMO (DS was a chunky 22 lbs) If we made it with a kid we had only met a few days earlier, you can make it work whenever you chose. Have faith.

Ok here is something random for the hive mind:

My husband has had significant medical appointments this year that don't take insurance up front. So I sent along a huge batch of receipts with the superbill form.

I just got a big reimbursement check in the mail from insurance (yay!)

Question: am I allowed to put this money back into the HSA (we paid for all the visits out of pocket with HSA money) or what? If yes, how does this work? All our HSA contributions come via my husband's employer. It is set up institutional, just like 401k contributions.

If it doesn't go back to the HSA then this would be considered taxable income, right?

Any advice appreciated and sorry this isn't about credit cards.

Does anyone have some advice on ear pain/fluid buildup while flying? DH has been having a terrible time with his ears while flying lately and had to go on an antibiotic the other day. I just ordered him some travel specific earplugs on amazon, but didn’t know if anyone else had tips.

The pharmacist recommended Flonase to me before flying. I do a couple of shots in my nose at the gate to open things up.

DS complains about ear pain and noise. We tried EarPlanes plus noise canceling headphones which helped some. For the pain/pressure, we did Afrin and Benadryl last time.(plus the headphones/EarPlanes) He didn’t complain as much but it didn’t help 100%

I got the following advice for DS

“My ENT told me: mucinex 1 hr before flight and Affrin right before take off. Worked like a charm. Check with an ENT, they can give you some great ideas.”
And
“My daughter was the same with her ears while flying. Per her ENT, she begins taking Afrin as directed 3 days before the flight until the morning of her flight. It helps along with earplanes. She also takes Zyrtec nightly when her allergies are bad.”

Thanks! Definitely have plenty of allergy meds/nose sprays since I have bad indoor allergies as well, so I’m on then year round. I’ll definitely get some Afrin for him too. Fortunately his work trip next week is within driving distance. He’s feeling a little better since I got home since I had him take a Claritin and mucinex.

I usually buy 2 $25 gcs and get 4 slices free. I’ll do the same this year, I think. I’m excited to get $10 back on it this year!!

It's a better deal for you than for me. With a family of 6, you can find a way to get all of those pieces eaten. I'm sitting here imagining what we would do with 4 free slices and how many pounds I would gain in just that one mea. :rotfl: We had trouble with the 2 we got last year. It'll be worse this year since we keep getting those $10 GCs every month! I wish we had a RCS nearby. #firstworldproblems

Chewing gum when taking off and landing can help. I hear the Ear Planes work, but haven't tried them personally. I think they helped DD once, but by the time we learned about them she wasn't having severe ear pain when flying. Lots of yawning, too, because that helps to pop the ears.

ETA - I also use a saline rinse before flying. I didn't mention Flonase and Zyrtec because I use them both all the time and didn't think about it just for flying, but they could really help.

I did 2 BJs orders that were $150 DGC and $10 Sonic, then 3 orders were $150 DGC and $25 DGC. Each order shipped together, each charged posted as one and all 5 offers are showing as redeemed. I went through ebates for all (should have switched that up a bit) and all are showing $0 there so I'm not holding my breath. I did get 15 cents for my $10 membership purchase though.

Update on the VZW GCs and auto-pay. The GCs arrived today and are all activated, but I cannot apply them to my bill. My auto-pay just hit today and it will not let me make a second payment on the same day. What are the odds? LOL

I just checked June next year and see plenty of award availability for 3 passengers in economy and premium economy. MCO - LGW.

Jul/Aug and even Sept not looking great though. I did say it was a popular route.

ETA: Ok something weird going on - I had availability showing on the flexible dates chart, but then when i went to select flights - I got the not enough seats message too.

That said, I did find availability for 16 Jun - 24 Jun, but definitely sparse in Premium.
So is the system messed up or do they really have that little of availability? That seems crazy to me. I even looked in October just to see.

Why would Target have their early access deals for Redcard members start at 3 am EST???

Will you not have a baby shower? People love to buy baby gifts. Just sayin’
We're doing a gender reveal in December, but it won't really be like a shower where people bring gifts. If people bring presents I'll be happy, I just don't want anyone to feel like they have to bring something. We have many family members on very low budgets so I'm not advertising our registry or anything. Dh's family has a lot of medical things going on right now. Our baby niece was just back in the hospital for a couple weeks and is finally back home. His sister was just put in the hospital for the second time. She's dealing with a lot of personal things right now.

You can only put in 5,700 into your HSA/year. That's non-taxable income. I think the money is yours to keep.

I usually pay for medical with credit card (earn points), submit EOB to HSA to have them reimburse me for the money.

Yes, I believe it would be considered taxable income. From what I have read, you can use it to pay any more medical expenses you have for the rest of the year (be sure to document) or try to put it back in the HSA. You need to make sure the HSA administrator knows it is a return of previous withdrawals and not an additional deposit. Ther may be a special form.
