I love credit cards so much! v2.0 (see first page for add'l details)

I have a couple of CSR questions:

1) Is there no way for DH to send me a support link? He tried but it's not working.

2) Can I double dip the $300 travel credit and then PC the card, and if so, how tight is the timing on that one?

Do it!

Halloweentime is coming up and Haunted Mansion will get its Nightmare Before Christmas overlay, which runs through the new year. Then during the Holidays, It’s a Small World gets its holiday overlay. My favorite time of year! WDW doesn’t get either of these.

Plenty of 35k options around Disneyland! The Fairfield Inn is closest, less than a 5 minute walk across the street from the Eastern Gateway to Disneyland. The SpringHill Suites is a little further but newer, and really only a (long) block or about a 10 minutes walk to the Eastern Gateway. A bit further is the Sheraton Park and the big Marriott hotel, but you’re still looking at most a 15 minute walk or cross the street the catch the Toy Story Parking Lot buses. If you and Zack have FNs on your separate accounts, just make two reservations for back-to-back dates and call the hotel to link the reservations so you don’t have to switch rooms.

:cheer2:

Amex has three cards you can run through. Chase has 2. Once you get a card, you get locked out of the other company's product, so best to start with Amex.

Ah, so you have to be EXTRA careful here. So, AmEx (historically) has better offers than Chase with Marriott, and if you were to take a particular Chase offer, you would be locked out of the competing (and better) AmEx offer? Thank You!

Totally agree. DL at Halloween time is fantastic, especially the NBC overlay on the HM. It's really a great time to visit!

Chase removed support links from the CSR. There’s currently no way to support someone to a CSR.

Yes. Definitely double dip the credit. The credit resets on or about the cardmember anniversary. Check the CSR’s UR portal dashboard for a counter that says how much you’ve used, and should give a date when it resets. Just make sure the counter has reset before using it again. Chase posts the AF on the 1st of the month after your cardmember anniversary, then you have 30 days to cancel the card for a full refund (no prorated refunds for cancelations after that); or about 40 days to PC for a full refund and a prorated refund after that.

Boo on the support links. :(

So if I apply for a card now-ish, it would reset early August 2020, with the AF posting in September? I'm asking because the timing will really matter this time.

We are going abroad in Sept, and I realized that instead of putting the spend on DH's CSR I could get one of my own, get 3x points, and also hit a new MSR and use up that $300 credit. But we are also planning a trip abroad late August 2020, and I'd love to save $300 on that one, too. I was going to apply for a CSP next, but suddenly realized that this might be the better way to go. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this one.

I'm at 3/5, so it would use one slot and take me to 4/5 (first card to drop will be Sept 2018).

My velocity with Chase isn't too bad:
12/2018 - Chase Hyatt
3/2019 - CIP

Anyone think this makes sense? Or thinks it is a mistake?

I missed this latest round of upgrades, and decided to upgrade no matter what back in June. My AF posted 6/1, refunded right away after I upgraded, haven't had the new AF charged yet. I believe it should be prorated in your case. $75 credit and the upgraded boarding spots are per cardmember year.

Thanks! So I'd probably pay the prorated AF of $75 after I upgrade (6 months) or in Feb on my anniversary I'd pay the $75 fee (6months of having the card?)

And no effect on my 24 month personal "clock" for bonuses? Thanks, sorry for so many questions!

Ok now I just want to plan a DLR trip to use my certs. That would solve all of my problems right?

I'm pretty sure a trip to DL (which I prefer over WDW) tends to solve most problems :earboy2:

The only thing I feel expert in all things Chase is what not to do, but I think your getting a CSR makes a lot of sense.

The first thing is that Marriott seems to make the rules, not Amex or Chase. As stated, Amex has 2 3 products, Chase has 2.

Amex has:
Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant Amex Card - $450 fee, $300 hotel credit, 50K free night
Marriott Bonvoy Amex Card - $95 fee, 35K free night
Marriott Bonvoy Business Amex Card-$125 fee, 35K free night

Chase has:
Marriott Bonvoy Boundless -$95 fee, 35K free night
Marriott Bonvoy Bold -no fee, no free night

There were 2-3 other products under the Chase umbrella that you can no longer get that were recently upgraded or axed:
The Ritz Card
The Marriott Bonvoy Premier Plus Business
The Marriott Premier personal - many accepted upgrades for this, myself included, hard to say no to a free year and 50k points!

Anyway, if you get the Amex personal products you can't hold the Chase personal products. If you happen to have the Chase business, you can't get the Amex business, and if you give up the card that is blocking you from applying, you have time limits to wait to apply. There is a script for this that @Lain seems to pull up effortlessly - I searched and couldn't find it. Long story short - the amex cards will give you the most points and free yearly nights at the present time. Take your time with Amex and try to get the best offer - points are more versatile than free nights, so when they offer 2 free nights versus 75k points - I look for the points. This is outside of the yearly free night. When the best offer comes along, people talk about it.

(And, I forgot they also ditched the regular Amex Bonvoy old SPG, because I still have it and they've updated it.)

Now, if you have no Bonvoy cards it's a little simpler. There's not as many choices to begin with. What a difference a year makes!

I imagine you would pay the fee a few months afterupgrading. That's how my Marriott card was, upgraded in Oct new fee in Feb... I know someone did this exact upgrade last year and think theirs was similar.

I’m sorry, why start with Amex? If getting the Amex locks you out of getting the Chase, wouldn’t you just get whichever one has the better offer? Or is it that getting the Chase cards locks you out of Amex and not the other way around? I’m confused. I don’t have any whatever they are cards (Marriott, spg, bonbon?) but was thinking I might need one sometime.

ETA ok, I think that last post cleared things up for me a little better. Thanks!

Well I had zero plans to go back to DL until my annual DIS Diva Trip in late February, but we just canceled some tentative October plans and my son has been begging me to go back (it's been a long time for him.... almost a year) so guess what I just booked. Ridiculously expensive hotel reservations.

You're all definitely a bad influence!

I am getting a slight discount on the park tickets themselves through Govx, which is for government employees. Someone here works for the court system, it seems? (I'm sorry I don't know who it is). If you haven't looked into Govx it's worth signing up for the free account just to see what they might have of interest to you.

Wow, Thank You! Excellent summary. I'm gonna save it for when I get to that point. Thanks!

Where did you decide to stay?

Just curious, if you don't mind sharing or PMing, how much of a discount are we talking?

I look for two things when going to DL. "Reasonable" price and walking distance. I am not a fancy hotel person.

Since my standbys, the BW Stovalls, BW PPI, and BW Anaheim Inn were all sold out, I am moving down the street a bit farther to the Anaheim Hotel. We've stayed before (although not recently) and it's old but the walk won't kill us. Also, since they moved the Pizza Press there, which is one of my son's favorite places, it will make it a little less painful.

I have a backup reservation at the Desert Inn and Suites right across the street. We've stayed there before, too, and the price is within $30 for the stay. But I'll let my son have the final decision. Longer walk vs. Pizza Press. Could be a close call!
