Thanks! I’m planning to see if my parents and brother want to be added to get TSA or Global Entry. They don’t care about it taking up a 5/24 slot. I’ll be closing my Platinum when the annual fee comes due in August so trying to squeeze these in. I also have a promo for 5K MR for each AU added that spends $500. I would plan on spending the $500 for them but it’s a nice little bonus in addition to getting them GE for no fee.

Great! I forgot to mention to check if you have an add AU for 5k MR points offer. Looks like you do!

I don't think I saw a response, but you only get 2 Saks $50 credits. 1 Jan - June and 1 July - Dec.
I guess I’m asking if I apply now can I get one now, one second half of 2019, and one first half of 2020? This is a one year card for me.

Asking again about chase cards (this board just moves so fast). Does the 3 month spacing recommendation include co-branded cards?

Also, does anyone know anything about the United excursion benefit?

It's any chase card. If there are specific one's you are looking at you can ask about the timing and may be able to do a modified double dip, but the general concensus is every 3 months.

You can’t transfer URs to Alaska, but you can purchase Alaska flights using UR points on the Chase travel portal. (You also can’t transfer UR points into AA miles, but you also purchase AA flights using UR points on the Chase travel portal.)

Make sure you’re using the Chase travel portal and redeeming points on a card a better redemption bonus, like 1.25x on the CIP or CSP, and 1.5x on the CSR.

I will say that I worry come August, when SWGE no longer requires reservations after 6/23, the land is going to be packed and the Millennium Falcon ride will be an over 2 hour wait. ETA: I recall reading somewhere that FastPass and MaxPass will not be available for the Millennium Falcon initially. I don’t know if that means only during the reservation period, or for months after opening to the general public.
Thanks for the airline info. I'm not to worried about the SWGE area and missing out on it. I'm sure the park will be busier in general as well, but that's okay. If I can pull off a quick trip with the dates that work for us I'm happy to get a Disney fix in even with busier park days.

Depending on where you are flying from, if you see saver miles on the AA site, you can transfer UR to BA for an AA flight. BA is distance based. This may or may not cost less points than purchasing through the UR portal which will also earn you frequent flier miles.

Example SEA-LAX on 8/9 return 8/12 in economy is 18,000 BA Avios pp plus $11.22 in taxes pp. This is on an AA partner flight. So you'd transfer 36k UR to BA Avios and pay $22.44 in taxes and fees. It is searchable on the BA site. If you are closer in distance than SEA-LAX it may be even less Avios.

The same flight purchased through the UR portal is 33,413 total UR points with a CSR account. It would be more points with a CSP or CIP account since the points in those accounts are worth 1.25 vs 1.5 with a CSR. However, I did see other flights for less than that. This would be a case where I would choose to purchase through the UR portal rather than transfer to BA. It's less UR points, plus I would earn the butt in seat miles to boot.
Thanks for the info.

:surfweb:

You already got your answer but Alaska is AS and I think when you use AA which is American Airlines you're adding confusion into things.

Yep you are right, I meant AS. Sorry for the confusion.

You sure can. You can get one through the end of this June, once during the next 6 months, and one more after Jan 1. Depending on when your AF posts next year, you might be able to squeeze out one more credit after July 1 if you're still within your 30 days.

My daughter is going overseas for a year starting in August. She has an AU card on our AMEX Platinum which has no foreign transaction fees and that's what she has used in the past when traveling abroad. We also have the CSR which is a really good travel card, also with no FTC.

My DD wants a card of her own (so she gets the travel points) so I'm looking for one that doesn't require a high income level to apply. But if you don't mind the account being yours and giving her an AU card, I think the CSR is a really good option. It also comes with good travel insurance, and it sounds like that will come in handy, too.

Thank you, mmmears! We did end up going with the CSR. Hope your daughter has a great year!

Chase Sapphire Preferred or Reserve are good travel cards depending on your spend. I've been killing it the last 8 months with my American Express Gold Card. We spend most on restaurants and grocery stores, both 4x categories on AMEX that have gotten me enough points to fly my entire family to WDW at Thanksgiving. But I will always have a Sapphire card in my wallet for the rental car insurance and travel insurance. To me Capital One cards aren't that good when compared to Chase and/or AMEX.

Thank you, EACarlson! We did go with the Sapphire card. We're definitely going to do our research into AMEX cards.

I am a little surprised that you are paying directly to the University in Scotland. All of our tuition and fees were paid directly to our home University and they paid the bill. I just assumed they all worked that way.

Hi, WVMomof3! Yes, only the tuition portion of the bill is paid directly to her home college. The room portion is on her. A lot of the students search for private accommodation. Not sure if that's the reason. Almost no one at the school in Scotland opts for board either. Most go to the market and do their own cooking. Our DD will definitely be doing some "adulting"! LOL!!

We’re hoping to use the excursionist perk next summer for our Europe trip. Nice deal! Free flight within another continent when you book a transcontinental round trip on miles. I have no idea if it’s the same perk for paid fares.

We're about $600 away from dh's CIP MSR. It was approved two weeks ago lol

To use the excursionist benefit, you have to book all 3 flights at the same time. The third flight must end in the region where the first flight originated. The second flight must originate and end within one region.

For example, we could fly to Australia, fly from Australia to New Zealand, then fly home to the US from New Zealand. Unfortunately we won't be able to do that because the biz saver flights to Australia may not be still be available when the NZ return flights are.

United regions are weird, so check especially if you are planning on going to Asia.

Does anyone know if ETSY ever shows up on a shopping portal? Or, does Etsy have gift cards available for purchase at brick and mortar stores that may offer a higher points per dollar for purchase? I see a growing addiction to Disney inspired Minnie Ears headbands coming my way.

I'm thinking about the CIP and Hyatt sometime in August.

That's my plan as well. I'm still working out the details.

It used to. Not sure about gift cards.

My plans are still in flux but I am definitely doing Europe. But I am concerned about the availability of business savers awards. We are going late August early September so maybe I can afford to wait to book since it's generally a slower time.
