My SNL years were the late 80’s early 90’s. My favorite bits were “Deep Thoughts”, Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer, and Dana Carvey as Bush 1 and I forget the actor that did Bill Clinton, but there were some hilarious election skits in ‘92. Didn’t matter what your politics were then, they were hilarious either way!

Late 80s and 90s were the peak (for my enjoyment anyway). My roommate and I used to look at each other in medical school and say "you're good enough, you're smart enough and gosh darn it, people like you" before we headed to the mean streets of OB/GYN and surgery clinics!
Other than one skit from 2016 that I watch whenever I'm super sad, SNL has been on the downhill slide for a while.

DH has been denied for AA Business card twice now. 1st time it said "too many inquiries". So, I waited about 6 months and tried again. Just got the letter in the mail. It was denied because 'they couldn't verify his information". What the heck. It has his SS # and says Sole Proprietor... what is to verify??? I may have DH call on this. He does have an actual "business" of shrink wrapping boats on the side in the fall and makes about $4500 a year doing this. So, he could talk to them legitimately - just seems so stupid..

Sorry to hear that and welcome to my DH's CIP world. It's so frustrating!!!!

So I looked at the terms and they want a "verifiable business". What does that mean exactly? And would they even bother to check?

I am not sure. I know several on here have done it. I think @amalone1013 is almost done with her spend. Maybe someone who has done it can elaborate more.

I'm definitely planning a weekend trip to the Omaha Zoo this summer. Thinking 2 days at the zoo itself. The last few times I had been was 2012 when I took DH, and then in 2015 which was around when the African Grasslands area was opening and right before the splash park open. I couldn't believe how much they had planned for the next few years at the time. We are Denver Zoo members and it's a nice zoo and has some neat historical exhibits/buildings, but Omaha is a whole different league (and was already about twice as much land area before they took over the baseball stadium, I think). I think the Lied Jungle (and Desert Dome too, but especially Lied) is just such a unique exhibit, I'm sure it's not the only one quite like that but I haven't come across one anywhere else yet. Maybe we'll do like a three day weekend, fly into Omaha on a Fri morning and do Fri/Sat at the zoo, invite some friends/family along on Saturday then head back to Lincoln with them for the rest of the weekend.

ETA: Also I feel like Omaha is cheap admission compared to other big city zoos... at $22. Denver is $20 now. I almost had a heart attack when I was reminded that San Diego is $56 yesterday. I mean, I guess that includes the aerial tram and bus to get around and bus tour. Even though Omaha wants to nickel and dime for that stuff it's only another $10 for the equivalents.


OMG I completely forgot about that book! A cousin gave it to me when I was middle school or early high school!

Last you were here was 2015?! You are in for a treat! They have changed SOOO much again since then! I am hopefully going tomorrow with DD if the weather holds out but they are predicting severe storms.

DECLINED! My first decline. It is on the Wells Fargo checking account for the bonus. Not sure the reason since I don't have the letter and the CSR couldn't tell me over the phone. I am hoping it is for verification and not true decline

I got my letter this weekend. It is verification - except they ask that I go to a branch. They have 5,700 branches in the US. ZERO in Ohio. Oh well, I could call in but TBH, as much as I dislike PNC, the bonus was easy now that I know for sure Chase pushes work for DD. I think I will just sign DH up for PNC and go for that bonus.

You are correct We didn't go last year but we're back again this year. The schedule came out yesterday. I checked this morning and if DH and his trainer show and make the finals in all his classes (fingers crossed), he could end up showing SIX days in a row I think we're going to go up on a Saturday and leave the following Monday a week later. DH told me I didn't have to stay up there with him the whole time, but no way am I going to be able to sit at my desk and do work knowing he's at Congress!

Congress memories.... 2am practices, getting horses into the Celeste building during the night so they have seen it before their class, practicing patterns, breaking the patterns down to individual maneuvers, long days, little sleep, Congress shopping, sitting for hours watching class after class of awesome horses... I kind of miss it.

There really is nothing like it! We are really excited about DH's horse this year so I'm hoping he'll have a great year. He hasn't shown at Congress since 2013!

Uggh I don't have a good feeling about my flight in July to Seattle. It is showing as sold out across all the classes, not just for my day but for the entire week. No email or notification and it sounded like from the email from the president that all changes to flights through Aug 5 had been communicated. The other thing in my favor is that I looked at this last week and all 4 flights in the morning showed as sold out and now 2 of them are back on the board. Maybe they are still working on it?!?

I did call in but need to HUCA. My lovely CSR told me that only Max 8 planes had been affected and they were only on April changes right now. Wow, not sure if she believed that or just didn't want to look into my flights.

Unfortunately, there isn't a good replacement. My current flight has me getting in at 11:45am (Seattle time), the next best time is 5:45pm. So I lose a day. There is a flight leaving the same time but goes through Den with a 45 min layover. I am not worried about us making the connection through the airport but worry about checked luggage making it. The other earlier flights would have my kids very cranky.

I don't want to try to change my reservation for the first night at Paradise Inn in Mt Rainier. I'll either try to make the later one work or go the day before. Crossing fingers that it just stays with my original plans.

I bought a $500 VGC last year at Kroger with some groceries so I could use it at the car place that wouldn't take Amex. As far as I know it wasn't a problem.

Were you working on MSR at the time? That's my biggest concern, those darn RATs coming along and denying my sign up bonus.

For my MDD I didn't get two instant approvals either. I went for the CSP got an instant approval. the next day I did the Hyatt to go to 6/24 and I didn't get approved until weeks later. So don't worry too much. Its still possible you can get the CSP approved.

Yes otherwise I just would have put it on one of my visas. I think the repair was around $1000 but I wasn’t confident the car place could run 2 VGC and my own visa to top it off so I just did $500. Figured it was better than nothing on my AMEX.

I put my AA Flights on hold for Aruba as the taxes and fees were going to be around $360 so I was waiting for one of the new cards to arrive so I could start on a MSR.

So, both kids AMEX Gold arrive yesterday (added them as AU's to get 5,000 points after spending $500 on each card). So, go to use DD's card and it won't let me as the name on the card has to match the AA Account. Oh , for the love of Pete. Why can't anything be easy.

DH's Arrival Plus has not arrive yet and that wouldn't work either since it is in his name.

So, I went ahead and upgraded my Marriott AMEX Card for the 100,000 points (which I was going to do anyway in a few weeks). So, this one is in my name. I will be able to use my current card on this and it will still count towards the $5,000 MSR needed correct? They send a new card but keep the same card # right? I have until tomorrow to purchase the flights on hold so want to make sure... (of course this card is at home in my sock drawer - will need to pull it out tonight if this will work)
