My SNL years were the late 80’s early 90’s. My favorite bits were “Deep Thoughts”, Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer, and Dana Carvey as Bush 1 and I forget the actor that did Bill Clinton, but there were some hilarious election skits in ‘92. Didn’t matter what your politics were then, they were hilarious either way!

Daryl Hammond, his Clinton was fabulous!!

Hoping to see my brand new companion pass any day now. I keep refreshing the SW website to see if it’s there. I used the special in flight link, so hopefully it’s going to work right for me! My statement close date was yesterday. How long is it usually?

Girl...you gotta get on the train! Get yourself that 40k dummy booking offer + $250 statement credit. It's a biz card and has a $2k MSR. You sell the gift card and get $200 cash on raise.com (so you have a 10% return before you even factor in the miles). If you have no other use for the AA miles at a minimum you could get ~$160 in Disney gift cards (or $240 if you can score the 20k match). You could also sit on the 40k (or 60k) AA miles to see if a better use comes along.

I've finally decided to get on the AA train although I've not really wanted to jump in recently.

It occurred to me that I could get a couple of cards and book a couple of nights at a Disney resort. Recently I've been preoccupied with real life and was thinking 'I have DVC' and don't really need airline points for rooms.

The plan would be to rent out a few nights with my DVC points. I have BWV and when I put them on the rent trade board years ago I was swamped with requests for rooms. Then I could use the cash generated for more tickets for family to join me - 1 grandchild is already 3, and the other will be 3 in January, so time has crept up! They've already been on 2 Disney trips and twice or maybe three times to Disney's Hilton Head, but we can always go again!

So, now I have to start paying attention! I skip all of the GG and other tv or movie posts, and can't keep up this week and last. Very busy being a grandma! But, it's naptime - hurray!

EDIT: and for those wondering...I totally used the word simpatico in a nod to Flynn Rider...man I love me some Tangled!!

Didn't you say once that your wife really wants to do a cruise? DCL's Tangled production is FANTASTIC! Just sayin . . .

This is a great idea to rent your DVC points out and use the AA miles for rooms. Now you have me thinking...

And yay naptime!

Ahhh but 9 nights in Columbus in October sounds like the Quarter Horse Congress. Twine Place Suites may not be a fancy use of points or cert but the Congress should be FUN.

You are correct :) We didn't go last year but we're back again this year. The schedule came out yesterday. I checked this morning and if DH and his trainer show and make the finals in all his classes (fingers crossed), he could end up showing SIX days in a row :faint: I think we're going to go up on a Saturday and leave the following Monday a week later. DH told me I didn't have to stay up there with him the whole time, but no way am I going to be able to sit at my desk and do work knowing he's at Congress!

Ummmmm. I think that needs to be a 10 night stay. If you are staying on points, every 5th night is free, so make that a 10 night stay and get the extra elite night credit, since it doesn't cost you anything! No need to stick around for the last night - just don't check out in the app until you're gone (you might want to waive houskeeping or leave stuff in your room until they've come through so that they don't accidentally check you out early). You are the perfect candidate for Marriott status- lots of hotel nights a year (esp at lower cost options) which can translate into swanky award stays with your status! Every night counts ::yes::

Unless you're already going to hit Platinum without trying, in which case, eh.

See, this is why I post here! You guys come up with the stuff I always forget. Someone else here told me to do the same thing when I went to Tulsa last year for four nights and it worked perfect. Thanks!

As long as we’re discussing humor, the most hilarious book I ever read was “Letters from a Nut”. Every page was a different letter that the author wrote to some company (usually a restaurant or hotel) making some sort of outlandish request. If you need something funny to read, I recommend it.

Strange observation about my CIP approval today...

I found out because of the Chase - Mint notification that I received. Basically I told Mint to update with any new Chase accounts. Then I called the automated status line after rolling out of bed to confirm. The weird thing is I don't have any other biz cards so my Chase profile is personal only. My CIP isn't appearing in my Chase account OR on Mint... So somehow, Chase's back system knows I got a new card, but I can't see it on my Chase profile, the Chase app or Mint, LOL! Just a weird observation...

I've noted that also, since I got the Biz Marriott a while back.

Also, that stupid sketch with Kate McKinnon and the alien abduction is not funny.

I've never really been a SNL person, but I do think that sketch is funny. But I start laughing when I just look at Kate McKinnon. Pretty much anything she does is funny to me.

And the "Stefon" gig makes me laugh too. But mainly because I know John Mulaney writes stuff to surprise Bill Hader as he performs the sketch.

I wasn't trying to do anything with a FN cert on mine this time since the hotel I'm booking is only 12,500 a night. But I'm definitely hoping to use one for Tokyo next year!

In case any of you are wondering where this luxurious 9 night Marriott stay will be, I'll be heading to glorious Columbus, OH in October for an elegant jaunt at a Townplace Suites.

Please note my sarcasm.
I almost took offense but while Columbus is great to live in (I’m in the burbs and work downtown), it would not be a travel destination. It does do a lot of big events that bring in people - NCAA basketball, Quarter horse, Arnold Classic, Memorial Tournament. Not to mention that college football team OH.... IO

And since there is zoo talk. The zoo is great. Jack Hanna was director for years and years. I love the polar bears that recently came back.

The Omaha zoo is something else. With all the work they have been doing lately its even getting better. I grew up in the Chicago land area and going back there to the zoo now is just not what I remember as a kid. LOL. Totally spoiled on the zoo here.
I'm definitely planning a weekend trip to the Omaha Zoo this summer. Thinking 2 days at the zoo itself. The last few times I had been was 2012 when I took DH, and then in 2015 which was around when the African Grasslands area was opening and right before the splash park open. I couldn't believe how much they had planned for the next few years at the time. We are Denver Zoo members and it's a nice zoo and has some neat historical exhibits/buildings, but Omaha is a whole different league (and was already about twice as much land area before they took over the baseball stadium, I think). I think the Lied Jungle (and Desert Dome too, but especially Lied) is just such a unique exhibit, I'm sure it's not the only one quite like that but I haven't come across one anywhere else yet. Maybe we'll do like a three day weekend, fly into Omaha on a Fri morning and do Fri/Sat at the zoo, invite some friends/family along on Saturday then head back to Lincoln with them for the rest of the weekend.

ETA: Also I feel like Omaha is cheap admission compared to other big city zoos... at $22. Denver is $20 now. I almost had a heart attack when I was reminded that San Diego is $56 yesterday. I mean, I guess that includes the aerial tram and bus to get around and bus tour. Even though Omaha wants to nickel and dime for that stuff it's only another $10 for the equivalents.

OMG I completely forgot about that book! A cousin gave it to me when I was middle school or early high school!

Okay, off off topic but I just want to share. I like to watch birds. And I have a huge window facing my back yard - floor to ceiling and 12 feet wide, so I can really see a lot from my chair while having my wake up coffee.

So, this morning after feeding the grands, dog, cats, cockatiels, I then put the usual few cups of seeds in the bird feeder. I was a bit later, as - you know - the grand kids!

I see a lot of birds and a few squirrels every day. Today was different - at the same time I had Mr and Mrs Cardinal, Mr and Mrs BlueJay, Mr and Mrs Mourning Dove and Mr Red Bellied Woodpecker, plus the usual dozen finches and a couple of small birds I haven't figured out yet. What was different was to have them all at once! Very colorful on the feeder and in the green grass below! None of these are rare or endangered, just so nice to see them being one big family. I stood up to get the camera, and whoosh they all left!

Okay - this was just one little thing that makes me happy! I just wish I'd gotten a picture and I would share.

Wishing you luck! Mine did something like that, card arrived and I could not attach it to an existing or new profile. I had to call and they had a heck of a time too, finally they did something but I could not create an account so they had to reset everything and send me a PIN that I had to read to them so they could open the account for me then give me the info. It was a mess.

Same thing happened with my dd's CIP. Of course, she had to call and was just terrified what they may ask her about her 'business' even though I assured her they most likely would not. She had them on speaker with me right there. They did have to transfer her several times to different folks who finally figured it out.

This may be very interesting if it continues into late summer. I have 2 college tuitions to pay. That's at least 50k (maybe more...depends on financial aid so I won't even have numbers before June). If I could cross refer with DH, we could spend 2.5% only on 20k I think and pay 30k with no fees. That would be $500 for $50k? I could do that even without a SUB, just for points.

I agree with tuition this would be so easy. That was my first thought when I saw it also but was sad to see you had to spend by May 31. Now just hoping someone uses my link so I can still get some FFDs. I can dream!

Haha I will agree with you. The time that I've spent in Columbus where I'm not showing a horse has been fine. Lots of good restaurants and Jeni's Ice Cream :lovestruc The zoo there is phenomenal! DH and I spent the day there and he proposed afterwards several years ago :cutie:

So I looked at the terms and they want a "verifiable business". What does that mean exactly? And would they even bother to check?

Does Marriott no longer allow you to book on points and have those points deducted from your account later? I just went to book a 9 night stay for October and it's 100,000 points. I have those points in my account, but it didn't give me the option to wait and pay with them later. Is it because I already have the total amount needed?

I think so. If you want to keep them, you might try booking something else that is refundable and then booking what you want with future points. Then cancel unwanted reservation.

I haven't done this and I'm not sure it will work, but I saw it suggested somewhere.

DH has been denied for AA Business card twice now. 1st time it said "too many inquiries". So, I waited about 6 months and tried again. Just got the letter in the mail. It was denied because 'they couldn't verify his information". What the heck. It has his SS # and says Sole Proprietor... what is to verify??? I may have DH call on this. He does have an actual "business" of shrink wrapping boats on the side in the fall and makes about $4500 a year doing this. So, he could talk to them legitimately - just seems so stupid..
