I would book the 80K (if I am understanding you correctly that this covers the suite cost?) and then also start a dummy booking to figure out what the room costs and divide that by three. If you want to be generous you could discount a little. Room cost (approx.) 210 x two nights equals $420 divided by three = $140 each. Your points are 'your' cash. Don't feel bad using them.

As I explained to someone earlier this week in real life, its important to tell someone what they are required to pay. This person was all 'oh I've got points' to her friend and then wanted to charge but now didn't know how to bring it up.

You can add value to your friends cost because points rooms usually result in no tax, so it will/should be cheaper. If you feel like it, you can 'treat' by doing the cash plus 43K, but I like the 'no cash out of my pocket' deals better.

And, there's nothing wrong with charging the lowest amount you are comfy with.
Thanks for the reply.... I think I worded my question confusingly(sorry!) What I have a choice of is rooms on cash are $431 with tax- so my question- is it smarter to use 43k of my points, then pay cash for the rest(and three friends reimburse) It would equal points+$210- (each friend owes $70)
OR..... use 80k points, and then ask for the shared cost.(they'd contribute some cash to cover room, but in effect I'd already book on points) I guess it has nothing to do with the points themselves, except how to value the points.... is this still a muddy question?

Another question. Many years ago I was big into buying visa gc either online or at an office supply store and even sometimes Kroger and Simon Mall and then cashing out at Meijer or Walmart for money orders. I have a lot of bank accounts and would spread the deposits around so I didn’t burn out a specific bank. I’d usually do no more than $5k a month. I know there are a lot more restrictions in place but I was wondering if anyone is still using these methods and if there are new risks I should be looking out for? I plan to take some time reading the latest FT forum on Walmart MOs as well - https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/man...48700-buying-money-orders-walmart-2019-a.html

I'm still doing WM MOs. My latest issue has been with WM putting blocks on the USB500vgc when I try to use it for the full amount the first time, but I found out that was because I'd been going and changing the PIN on them before using them. Now I scribble the PIN that comes with the card on my hand to remember it, and can use the full 500 in one transaction. Also, if you try for $1000 or more they will ask for a DL, so I get a smaller amount.

Guys I don't know what to say or do anymore. You already know my one girlfriend was out for Vegas because she hurt her knee very badly. Then my husband went into a downward health spiral.

But now, I have just learned that my other girlfriend who was meeting us... died last night. At age 42 this is obviously sudden and a shock.

I feel numb. And I don't know who to talk to about this so I posted here.

Oh my! I'm so sorry!

I'd probably still go with the 80K.

Assuming you feel the value of the points is a good redemption (seems like it is at around $0.01/each if I’m reading correctly), then I’d go ahead and use the ~80k to cover the full cost of both nights. As for what to charge your friends, the easiest is to take the full value of the room and divide by 4 (or whatever the total # of people are going including yourself). That’s what each friend owes you in cash. To me money in my pocket is always better than points (assuming I used for a decent redemption) so in this case I’d be happy with the cash from friends. You also have the option of offering a bit of a discount and instead of the full value of the room you use some lower amount you feel is fair.

We did something similar when we traveled with friends in Dec. I had a Hyatt credit credit card free night cert that expired in a few months. I used it to book a second room for them. At the time the rooms were priced at $300+ but you could get for 15k Hyatt/Chase points. I charged them $150 which was still quite a deal for them and a good deal for me as I may not have been able to use before it expired.

So...we have been building up United points with DH's United Mileage Card, MPX and Mypoints for a trip to Europe (sometime in the next few years). The trip is still going to happen, but with the recent news I think I will stop adding to our United balance and just keep earning URs to transfer to United if we wind up still using United when we finally book the trip.
If we decide to use a different airline for the proposed trip, can those United Miles be converted to anything useful? We usually fly SW domestically so not sure I will ever use those saved up miles if we fly another airline to Europe.

Is anyone working on any bank bonuses at the moment? DH and I are working on the Wells Fargo checking $400 bonus after 3 months of $3k direct deposit. DH is using his paycheck to meet. My paycheck is a pain to modify so I’m trying out ACH from my Fidelity cash account. Just curious to hear what others are working on.
I'm working on this one right now as well. I don't have direct deposit so I'm using Paypal. So far, it seems to be working. First push coded as DD.

I didn’t even think to check what my first transfer from Fidelity cash coded as. Just went to check and mine says direct deposit too, cool!! Just 2 more to go.

Are you going to send your second one exactly 30 days after? Wasn't sure how everyone was doing it.

LOL! Actually I lived in Newport when I was little then returned for OIS. We flew in and drove to Worcester tonight since DD is considering Clark U for the next four years. I was not pleased to be driving in angry fat rain (aka snow) tonight . Fortunately tomorrow is supposed to be warmer and almost sunny. DD is happy with the cold weather so that’s good I guess (?).

DD has now been to 45 states so that and avoiding Boston traffic made me pick PVD.
Oh wow, didn't realize you lived in Newport before...love it there. I'm glad you had nice weather today and good luck to your DD on her college quest :)
