I might do that with my Plus card. I really have no need for both. The only reason I had kept both of them open was because they waived my AFs last year and support clicks used to be the way to get the 50k offer (and I used to get a lot of clicks from r/churning before everything changed there)

For now, I'm cancelling this card after one more attempt this week. And then I'll determine what to do with the Plus card (but I'm not cancelling it as I need to have at least one SW card open for my backup plan).
Agree no need for 2 SW cards....:tinker:you are as lucky as I was with the upgrade on the plus

Oh man am I mad. I rented an intermediate car to take my kids to Busch gardens tomorrow. The lady says I rented an intermediate so I’m getting a Ford Fiesta. I thought that was odd but rental car companies seem to have strange car class definitions. I got back to my parents’ and googled it and it’s a compact. The enterprise location is closed the 800 number was useless and now I’m stuck driving a fiesta on 75 (I’m a minivan driver). But I’m really mad that they lied to me and won’t do anything to fix it.

In the Car Rental world a Intermediate Car is a Compact

Example a Nissan Sentra is a Intermediate Car via Alamo

Toyota Corolla is a Compact in the real world but a Intermediate via a Car Rental

Intermediate is my go-to size car . if I were to check what size it would be

best to look on the website . For our week plus trips I usually see a upgrade for a

Dollar a day for the next class size car after booking - sometimes prior to the click

on submit . This is based on past Rentals via Alamo - Enterprise - Budget

((((((((((((((((((((()))))))))))))))))))))))))

um as pointed out below a Ford Fiesta is more of a Sub Compact Car

Yes, it is longer and goes higher. Here is a quick summary I found: https://www.tourradar.com/days-to-come/inca-trail-vs-salkantay/ We used REI, but Nat Geo uses the same itinerary and stays at the same lodges. We were originally booked with them but they cancelled our date.

Thank you! I've been reading up today. I do think we'd enjoy Salkantay more. The lodges look great - although the camping is more in line with our budget. Will have to give it some thought. Nice Marriotts in both Cusco and the Sacred Valley.

Fun Sunday Topic...
So I know it’s not Sunday for 10 more minutes lol...but somebody on r/churning posted this topic and I thought it could be fun for us on a Sunday (which is typically slower around here):
  • As we approach the end of Q1 what cards did you get in the 1st 3 months of the year?
  • And an added question for our group: what cards do you anticipate getting in the next 3 months?

Only card in Q1 is the CIP. Thought I had enough spend to take on our trip next month but it seems to be going pretty quick.

I haven’t planned my next steps yet. I want to get 4 more citi personal cards, 2 citi Biz cards between SO and I. Then I’ll probabut move on to some smaller cashback cards. Wells Fargo, PNC, BMO.

As far as Q2 I was thinking the same with smaller cashback cards. The ones with no fees. Since I will have a few */24 to burn.

Was also thinking CSP but since it's only a "$5 difference" from the regular signup I may wait.

Also was thinking a Barclays Aviator. But will have to do before I close the JB biz. Did i mention i don't really like fees....

Q1 me: CIP in Jan., applied for the Barclay Aviator Business - sent in verification and waiting to see if that comes through.
Q1 husband: CIP in February, Barclay Aviator Business.

Q2 me: apply next week for AmEx Plat personal with a 100k MR mailer. CIP2 in May/June, if not then CIC or CIU. I have consolidated all our UR in my account and hope to book our summer trip next week. I will also get 2 of my kids the Gold AU from the plat so 5 of us will have GE credits and I will pay for the last one we need.
Q2 husband: AA biz to bump up his miles more, CIC or CIU to start the UR replenishing.

You are correct. I was looking at the next line that says it also covers awards if all of the points or miles were earned on the card. I'm guessing that would be more for hotels since all flights have the taxes and fees that need to be charged.
I hope to pay all our tickets with UR - does this mean that all the points had to have been earned with the card the points are being used from? I’ve consolidated points from 3 cards on to mine but I would like to ensure I have the travel protection.

Also tried from a different city, Frankfurt and those do not stop in London but still over $100 in fees. The Frankfurt ones were American and the Belgium ones were British Airways. So AA fees are still way higher than United even without London or BA.

I think you have to really compare apples to apples. I'm pricing out MUC- to dc area in 2/20 and the taxes for United range anywhere from $97-$120, whereas AA is fairly consistently $103 (*rounding off all fees). I believe the differences are the nonstop for United/Lufthansa are the $97, whereas the other United award flights AND AA have stopovers so that apparently adds to the fees. Each country appears to have a specific tax amount and origination in European countries appear to be higher (some much) than ours.

Looking at the same date in February on a couple of other destination goals- if you fly from PHL-DUB on AA and BOS-DUB on United (both nonstop on their respective planes), the taxes both price out at $5.60. Looking at American Airlines to Venice, most taxes are $5.60 if nonstop whereas if you fly United to Venice there are no tickets on United branded flights (only code shares), and each itinerary has a connection. The taxes fluctuate depending on the airlines flown and the countries of the connection so it really does depend on origination, layover (if any) and the country of origin of the airline company you're flying (aka "metal").

Hope this makes some sense!

Except in the real world a Fiesta is a sub compact at best.

Confusing myself even more. Looks like on the way there United DC - Munich nonstop fees are $5.60. On the way back fees are $97.83 nonstop and higher with stops. I admit I really don't understand how the same flight using same airports has different fees. Hmmm, guess I need to really investigate further. I am pretty open to where we fly into, thinking Germany/Belgium itinerary. My friend did a similar trip last week and flew into and out of Frankfurt. Her tickets were less than $400 roundtrip and she bought them about a month in advance, so maybe I need to look at cash prices on the UR portal too. Seems wasteful to use 60,000 points if I would only save about $300.

I am trying to meet the MSR for my new AmEx Bonvoy; one of the only ways I knew I'd be able to do it is by paying board for dd's horse via Plastique. I tried to pay online last night and it said I couldn't use an AmEx for payment. I searched the payment categories not eligible for Plastique and it does not fall under any of them. Any suggestions?

You can message them and they can correct any issues and push the payment through, it doesn't take very long. I've done that twice, once with my car payment (they rejected thinking it was mortgage, I told the guy I wish my mortgage was that low) and then again with my HOA fees.

My husband signed up for a new Chase cc a little over a year ago, he was closing one and the woman at the bank convinced him to get a new one. Anyway, he got an extra $50 if he put me as an AU and I used the card once, which I did. I didn't realize this counted against my 5/24, so a few months ago I called and cancelled myself as an AU. I just checked my credit report and the card is still on my report as active but under "Responsibility", it says "terminated". Does this mean it has come off my 5/24?

What do most of you do when you still have points and the cc is nearing the time when the AF gets added onto the card and you are considering cancelling the card? I am assuming that you lose your points if you cancel the cc's? I am wondering mainly about the CIP. Can the points be transferred somehow?

It did not come off your 5/24 count. You would need to take it up with the credit agencies to get that removed.

CIP (or ultimate rewards) points are attached to a card so you would need to transfer them to another household card that also earns URs to keep them active so you do not lose them. You would lose the points if you cancel the card and don’t move the points to another card within 30 days.

Germany has high departure taxes, second only to the U.K. It's only charged on departure, which is why you only see it higher on the return flight. Here's a good comparison article (doesn't show Belgium though).

https://travelupdate.boardingarea.com/a-comprehensive-guide-to-flight-taxes-fees-in-europe/

But, yeah, if you can find $400 roundtrip, I wouldn't use 60k points either. I was going to use my AA miles last summer, but the low cost carriers were so cheap it didn't make any sense. This summer, I really wanted to fly out of Aberdeen instead of Edinburgh (basically BA was the only choice with one connection), so sucked it up and paid the fees.
