I love credit cards so much! v2.0 (see first page for add'l details)

It's March and that means I have to decide once and for all if I'm killing DH's Delta Plat or keeping it... before I was 100% in the kill camp. Now with the popup problems, I just don't know...

I’m getting rid of my Hilton Biz in May regardless. I’ll probably apply for whatever the Blue Biz cars is before then though.

Plan for this month is to apply for SPG Biz for DH before the 28th. Need to get my tax refund back first as I’ll be using that to pay my student loan on DH’s Citi AA Biz to finish MSR. Then CIU on April 1 which I’ll knock out quickly by making a couple payments towards our September WDW trip. Yes, I could get 3x URs on CIP, but I want the additional URs from CIU to put towards our trip, so its a decent trade off.

Sorry, I don't have any advice but wondering when you are going to DL? We are also staying at the Four Points Sheraton for the second weekend in May. Would love to hear any tips if you happen to be going earlier than us!
You will beat my trip, only by a few days!

Ok - so we have to make an $8,000 purchase all on May 1st. It's something we are getting re-imbursed for. Our Chase Freedom is our every day card, and we also had/have a Starwood/Marriott and Hilton card which we successfully used for the sign up bonuses (we each have these). We are trying to figure out if there is a good card to sign up for to get a good bonus for this purchase. Maybe we can each get a card and split the charge $4k and $4k?

Please let me know if there are more questions for me to answer that would be helpful. Would a Disney Visa be in the running? Thanks!

I was just checking for walmart/sams offers on our amex accounts and got zero. :sad2: There are tons of Hilton offers though, that weren't there late last night when I was looking.

ETA: I see offers for just about every brand. Of course, none are on the hilton cards. But hey, I'll take them.

I’ve been going over getting more Citi AA cards for us and need some input. I currently have about 125,000 AA miles for both of us (as soon as MSR is done on DH’s card this month). From everything I’m seeing this should be enough to get us to and from Japan in first, or at least business, on JAL. So I really don’t need more AA miles for that trip. But I guess part of me is just paranoid that there will be a devaluation and I’ll need more miles at the last minute. I guess I’m that case I could transfer SPG to AA if necessary?

Someone help assuage my fears lol.

Sorry can't assuage your fears - but please educate me on how to get return FC tix to Japan for ~60k AA miles each.

I’m definitely not the expert on this so I would encourage others to chime in!! But I searched on Alaska’s website from JFK to Tokyo and it’s showing FC for 60k per person. You can also search on BA’s website but I find it harder to use.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong on the amount of miles necessary!

To help us give you better advice, can you answer the following?

1) First off, we are going to want you to list ALL credit cards you were approved for in the last 24 months. This would include all personal cards, store cards, business cards (but not things such as auto loans or mortgages). If you have a spouse (aka Player 2) please also list their cards if they are participating in this as well.

The format you should use to do that is as follows:
MM/YY - ISSUER Card Name
  • MM = Month (add a 0 before single digit months to make it look even more uniform)
  • YY = Year
  • ISSUER = CHASE, AMEX, CITI, BOFA, WELLS FARGO, etc.
  • Card Name = The Full Card Name (including business or personal if applicable)

Example:
11/17 - AMEX Business Gold Rewards
01/18 - CHASE Marriott Personal
04/18 - CHASE Ink Preferred
09/18 - CITI AAdvantage Business
11/18 - CHASE Southwest Business
01/19 - CHASE Southwest Plus

2) Secondly we'll want to know a little bit about you. Specifically - what you spend, and what you want to earn!
  • What amount of spend would you put on a card monthly (i.e. groceries, gas, insurance, cable, cell phone, other expenses)?
  • Do you currently payoff your CCs in full every month or do you carry any balances/pay any interest?
  • What airport(s) do you typically fly out of?
  • Do you have a preference of Frequent Flyer program?
  • Does SOUTHWEST service your airport?
  • Do you have a Hotel Rewards program preference?
  • Do you currently have any travel points in any program? (if so, which programs and how much)
  • What at your specific goals for churning credit cards? (i.e. Disney World Trip, Cruise, European Trip, Cash Back to pay-off a mortgage or student loans, etc. - you can have multiple goals too!)
  • Who does your travel party consist of? (Spouse, Kids (& ages), other relatives/friends)
You DO NOT need to list all of this (or really any of this) info above to ask for advice...just know that the MORE you share, the BETTER the advice we'll be able to provide.

Because you mentioned the Chase Freedom is your everyday card, you may already be familiar with Chase's Ultimate Rewards ("UR") points. You may be interested in Chase's other UR-earning cards that'll get you some big bonuses to add to your balance and give you better value for the UR points that you earn. However, Chase has a so-called 5/24 Rule, which means they'll deny you for many of their credit cards if you've opened 5 (usually personal) credit cards that appear on your credit report in the past 24 months. Chase has other rules for approvals, as does many of the other big issuers like Amex, Citi, Barlcays, etc. So whatever information you can provide us about what cards you have and when you opened them will help you navigate around those rules and avoid denials.

Although this is the DISboards and many of us are churning for Disney, the Disney Visa is usually not highly recommended because there are other credit cards out there with much better signup bonuses and earning potential.

I wouldn’t apply for a Disney card...and would concentrate on Chase URs

If you are willing to open a business card the Chase Ink Preferred CIP...has a 80k UR sign up bonus after spending 5k in the first 3 months....if one of you applies and gets the card...you can refer the other to get 20k URs in a referral bonus plus another 80k URs....with the MSR...it’s an easy 190K in URs

If you don’t want to open a business card ...For personal cards Chase has the CSP with a 50K UR sign up bonus after Spending 4K in the first 3 months....with a referral 10k...you’d have 118k URs

wow - thanks - i'll see if i can dig up all of that info!

thank you very much. why would you want/not want to open a business card? higher annual fee?

Decided I didn't want to miss out on the credit, and DW came home from a 2 week business trip this afternoon, so I ventured out solo for some quiet time. Got there at 10:45p before their 11p close time. First time being ID'd in a restaurant and my ID was in the car in my coat. Trek back to the parking garage to go it it. I guess I don't fit the profile of someone carrying a Rose Gold metal card as she was clearly checking it out and giving me the eye. I am curious if the charge will use the February credit or if it will take away from March.

Tempted for a second to just have a slice while there...but way to heavy at this time of night.

I'm pretty sure it will credit for March, but if you call you might be able to get it credited back to Feb. Good luck!

We bring home a slice and it takes us 2 days to eat it. Way too heavy for just one person in one sitting. At least in this house.

We had what amounted to a sleet storm overnight so I ventured out to the birdfeeder and gave them some of my cockatiel seed.

So far I've seen, male and female cardinal, starlings, 2 blue jays, a red headed bird that I think is a woodpecker and a number of smaller birds. A robin landed in the yard but didn't go near the feeder. I imagine he's looking for worms.

thank you very much. why would you want/not want to open a business card? higher annual fee?

Some people are afraid too...yes the CIP...has a $95 annual fee...not waived the first year....vs the CSP...which also has a $95 annual fee...but it’s waived the first year

So it would cost you $190 in fees for 2 CIPs....you earn 190k URs...which you could use for travel or cash out for $1,900-$190= $1710
Or...2 CSP...no fee the first year....for 118k URs...to use for travel or cash out $1,180

My idea of a good cruise to Greece starts in Venice and spends more than one day in Croatia, Montenegro, etc. Sadly, DCL didn't come through for me. We will likely do something like this on another line, during the off season (July in the Med is pretty unbearable for some of us). Yet another thing on my "aspirational travel" list. I'm glad they are going to Greece in any event.

Yes, that's my ideal cruise if you add in Slovenia (I really want to see the chapel on Lake Bled; no idea why really).

As lovely as a cruise sounds, I think I'd like to experience Greece via land. Its on our insanely long travel bucket list.

LOL-my DD loved her land trip to Greece but unless I went when tourists didn't I think crowds/heat would be too much. The Greece ABD used to be on my wish list but I realized I just couldn't handle that much heat/touring.

Don't pull me back into my obsession! I'm been staying off the cruise board for the most part and it's been good. Have a short cruise on the Dream booked near the expiration of our placeholder. It doesn't fit in with our other travel plans. I really need to Let It Go. *cue song*

Congrats! I have tried to limit my time on the cruise board but...just emailed my TA for summer 2020 so it didn't do much good:rolleyes1

Since it's March 1 that means... let's see... I have one card falling off, so I am now 21/24. :)

Whoo hoo! Congrats! I just went to 12/24 which is kind of exciting. June is the next landmark for me--9/24:yay:

wow - thanks - i'll see if i can dig up all of that info!

The easiest and free way to dig up what credit cards you've opened in the past 24 months is to sign up for Credit Karma, then look at the card accounts listed and find those that have an opening date in the past 24 months. The number of cards (*) opened in the past 24 months will give you a */24 count. You need to be under 5/24 to be eligible for almost all of Chase's cards (and their bonuses), which is why most people will suggest focusing on getting the Chase cards first before opening cards with other issuers (with rare exceptions).

thank you very much. why would you want/not want to open a business card? higher annual fee?

Do you have a business? You may have a business without even realizing it. Any side hustle that you do to earn some extra cash can be considered a business. Do you sell stuff on eBay, Amazon, Craigslist, or Facebook? Do contracting work? Make crafts or other goods to sell on Etsy or craft shows? Tutor? Baby sit or dog walk? Drive for Uber or Lyft? You probably have a business and qualify to apply for business cards.

The reason you'd apply for business credit cards is because many of them come with more lucrative signup bonuses. Most business credit cards also do not report to your personal credit reports, so that way they don't count against your */24 standing with Chase and keeps slots available for other personal cards; and because a business card isn't reported to your credit report, any charges you put on the card won't show up as a balance increase or affect your percentage of credit utilization, which should generally help increase your credit scores.

The Chase Ink Preferred ("CIP") card that @palhockeymomof2 mentioned has one of the most valuable signup bonuses at 80,000 UR points. It does carry a $95 annual fee, but the signup bonus is worth at least $800 in cash, or up to $1,200 towards travel if you combine those points onto Chase's Sapphire Reserve card ("CSR," which itself has a 50,000 UR signup bonus) or $1,000 towards travel if you pair it with a Chase Sapphire Preferred card ("CSP," which also has a 50,000 UR signup bonus). Chase has other business credit cards, i.e., the Chase Ink Cash ("CIC"), which also comes with a 50,000 UR signup bonus and earns 5x UR at office supply stores where you can buy gift cards (especially Disney Gift Cards); and the Chase Ink Unlimited, another 50,000 UR bonus card that continues to earn you 1.5x UR on every purchase.

But again, to be eligible for these cards, you need to be under 5/24. We can help you with the other details once we know more about you!

Well, I hope you're right, but I can't find anything less than 60k miles each way per person...so 120k round trip. I haven't searched that hard - just a few different dates.
