SOB! I got the pop up on the SPG card.

I already have a normal amount of spend on my ED card. But I'm sporadic with the SPG Biz card and it's been open for less than a year, so I think they're looking at that one. I got the bonus and spending dropped off since I only use my AmEx cards for offers and that one has crappy offers. Last charge on it was 12/30 for $20 for an offer, last significant spending on it was 3-4 months ago when I was using the Staples and Lowe's Biz offers.

Crud. Now do I spend the next 2 weeks putting spend on the SPG Biz and try again before it goes away, or dismiss it and move on to SW or something? I wonder if I'd get the pop up on the Hilton card I wanted too or just the SPG because it looks like a bonus grab? Wish we knew how AmEx worked.

Oh NO!

I SM'd Chase to find out about anniversary resets due to product changing (both DH and I upgraded our old personal Marriotts to the new Premier Plus in the past few months for the 50K upgrade bonus).

NEW anniversary date is when you make the upgrade change. Maybe some people here knew that, but I've never upgraded a card with Chase before and was reading comments on the FM post about pc'ing to the RC.

I was counting on DH getting his free night this month, and me getting my free night in May -- but now those won't be available until Oct (me) and Dec (him). I did read one conflicting DP in the comments on FM's RC post where the person said they still got their FN certificate on their original anniversary date, so there might be some YMMV with this.

At least we got 50K pts each which is a free night at most places, so that helps me from feeling too "robbed."

Quoting myself, geez. The Chase SM rep was wrong about when the free night would post!!!

I just checked DH's Marriott account and he has his 35K FN certificate in there. Yay!

Next-level intelligence gathering for my dossiers: inception.

But seriously, BBP referrals are down to 10k? Lame.

Yeah, saw a brief mention on r/churning about it few weeks back but people kept mentioning it @ 15k so I wasn't sure. Pulled up the link and sure enough, back to 10k :( Very lame indeed.

That really sucks. Unfortunately, no one seems to be able to figure out AMEX. Just giving my DP but obviously YMMV. I kept trying to refer DH for SPG biz last year before the higher offer expired. He got the pop up like 4 times before it went away. I put about 200 on his Hilton Biz about a week before the last time when it went through.

I'm about to go through this as I have a targeted Delta offer but I am unsure if I'll get a pop up. I have only been using my AMEX cards (SPG Biz & Hilton Biz) for the offers.

I've been wanting to apply for the SPG Amex for my wife but I'm worried she'll get the pop up. I haven't tried since she got the pop up back in October on the PRG, and I've been trying to put more spend on her cards since then, but the pop up is like Schrödinger's cat -- simultaneously there and not there until we apply again and find out.

So I've pretty much reached the spend on my AMEX personal Plat and am looking for my next move.
I am 4/24:

01/18 - CSP
04/18 - SPG Personal
05/18 - CIC
06/18 - Hilton Biz
08/18 - CIP
10/18 - SW Priority
11/18 - Personal Plat

My first year is up on my CSP, but the fee hasn't hit yet. I plan to downgrade to a CF since I get the same redemption rate with the CIP and would like the 5x categories. Then when we want to redeem something or if I decide to close the CIP after a year try to convince DH (not into opening anything so not a P2 yet) to get a CSR or upgrade my CF. Can I downgrade it now, or do I need to wait until the fee hits?

I think I should lay off Chase as they won't approve me for the $300 checking offer. (one reason being my mortgage is too low, sorry guys that's not changing)

I am interested in the Amex Gold card so thinking about self referring to that. Worried about the popup though as I have put only limited spend on the Hilton and SPG cards since hitting MSR. Also, another personal will put me at 5/24 and keep me away from Chase for the next year. Although no other Chase cards really excite me too much, so that might not be bad.

Any other cards I should be considering? We are local to WDW so don't need hotels or tix for that. We do love to cruise and would like to travel to more non Disney places as my 4 year old gets bigger.

So... try buying one or some $500 VGCs whenever you go shopping for groceries in the next 2 weeks, and try again before 2/12/19?

Well that makes me feel better about only have 2 weeks to turn this around. I've been holding off on a $200 purchase to put towards an MSR but maybe I'll just suck it up and throw it at the SPG Biz and start using it every other day for something stupid. Shame the statement just closed so it won't get spread out on paper more. Wasn't 100% sure if I'd get caught up in pop-up-gate but I thought I was such small potatoes I might squeak by this once. I literally only have 2 AmEx cards, 3 total lifetime, and that 3rd one that I closed was a Gold charge card where I paid the AF for at least 2 or 3 years before I closed it. I really didn't think I screamed "gamer" :)

DVC members check out the section and threads on lawsuit etc. DVC has reversed its policy on the 2020 point allocations! A lot of people worked hard to make their voices heard about it and it is good Disney at least for now listened. :)

Well, I'm off to go find what this is all about. Thank you for posting!

Now that IS interesting information. So weird that it didn't get brought up in my newsfeed on Facebook, I am a couple of very active DVC groups. I haven't looked this morning though.

I've been following the various posts across boards since inception and had literally just posed on the lawsuits thread when the news came in regarding the Disney about face. It's pretty amazing when you think about it, what a few people who put a lot of time and energy into this were able to do for the rest of us. Kudos and thanks to them. For those who haven't been following, contrary to what all of us DVC owners were told when we bought, the overall number of points on a chart can change significantly due to something called a "lock off premium." In the latest point reallocation, Disney basically created thousand of points out of thin air that would have brought $$ right into their pockets at the expense of owners who would no longer be able to book as many nights as they had due to point increases. It's pretty complicated with a lot of nuances, but that was the gist. Whether there could do so within the framework of the contract was debatable, but the bigger issue as I saw it was the breach of fiduciary duty on the part of Disney (DVD) to it's members (i.e. DVC owners) when they raised BOTH the point costs of studios AND one bedrooms, which everyone knows are the last popular units, due to supposed "demand."

I just checked DH's Marriott account and he has his 35K FN certificate in there. Yay!

So hypothetically, could someone with a Marriott Premier/Premier Plus go 1 year, 10 months paying the $95 AF, then in the 11th month PC to the R-C card, pay only a one- (or two-) month prorated AF on the $450, and get the 50k FN cert after year 2?

Boo on the pop-up! How long is your history with AmEx? I've been wondering how much that factors into it.

Closing in on 18 years in a few months. My ED card had been a "Blue for Students" that they involuntarily PC'd me to a few years back. (before I had ever heard of the lifetime language so I got screwed out of a bonus on that one. made me a little more salty this morning when I got the 25k incognito offer for it, too) I'm not 100% sure when I picked up the Gold card since AmEx back dated the year on that one to my original membership year, but I only closed it around late 2009, so I think I had that open for 3-4 years at least. Then I picked up the SPG Biz March of last year, so I think the sporadic spending on that card is what's killing me. I've had months of $0 statements in between my spends as I've only been using my AmEx cards for the offers.

I think some of you will get a chuckle out of this - I replaced my AmEx Gold card with the Chase Freedom :) I picked that up in 2008 for a 0% APR offer and after a year I realized I made way more with that card where I didn't pay an AF, than the Gold card, where they had increased the AF AND reduced the amount of points I was earning on purchases. People would look at you cross-eyed if you did it now, but it made sense at the time, really

As I approach my the end of my first year of churning, I'm trying to go back and clean some old things up and plan for the future. I have a Capital One Quicksilver One card that was opened 12/15. It has a $39 AF that I have been (stupidly) paying for years even though I haven't been using the card. Should I/ can I product change to a no AF card instead of cancelling?

Oh double and triple boo! So seems like history doesn't help at all.

So hypothetically, could someone with a Marriott Premier/Premier Plus go 1 year, 10 months paying the $95 AF, then in the 11th month PC to the R-C card, pay only a one- (or two-) month prorated AF on the $450, and get the 50k FN cert after year 2?

I think it hypothetically could be better than that. So far neither he nor I have gotten charged the new $95 AF, and I upgraded back 3 months ago in Oct and have had a negative balance for 3 months due to the prorated $85 AF refund! If that continues to hold true, then you wouldn't even pay the prorated AF on the R-C card! So hypothetically you could go 1 year, 1 month, get your 35K FN cert, then upgrade to the R-C card. Get 11/12ths of $95 refunded, and not pay the $450 AF until your next anniversary date. ETA: and maybe still get the $300 travel credit right away???

I'll know next month if DH's $95 fee posts on Feb 1. Mine, it may not be until June 1 before my new $95 AF posts. (where's a crossing fingers emoji when you need it?)

Using DH's acct as the example:

01/16 - opened old personal Marriott, $85 fee waived for first year
01/17 - paid $85 fee, got old Cat 1-5 FN cert
01/18 - paid $85 fee, got old Cat 1-5 FN cert
12/18 - upgraded to Premier Plus (11th month of cc anniversary), refunded $7.09 backdated to 2/1/18 (equal to 1 mo of prorated $85 AF) , no charge yet for new $95 AF
01/19 - 35K FN cert deposited into his account in his original anniversary month, just 1 month after upgrading, still no $95 AF

Yeah I tried explaining it to my husband, but his eyes glazed over. He tries, but I take care of all this stuff. And he is happy that I do. In the end, I told him basically they were not working in our best interest as they are required to. He was happy to hear they reversed it.
