Also, I have been holding out booking our March 2020 RCCL cruise and now all of the balcony rooms are gone except for the 3rd floor. How can be when the Harmony is huge and there were plenty of rooms. Now to keep scouting to see if anything opens up or finding something for DS’s 13th birthday. Any suggestions for warm European locations in March? We have 10 days to play with.

My guess is a large number of folks that were impacted by the Oasis cancelled sailings (around 15-18k depending on occupancy) have decided to use their cruise fare vouchers for next year and grabbed all of the high level cabins since they’re basically getting a free cruise. Even if they only originally had an inside, they may not have an issue shelling out a few grand more to get the better cabins. I’d keep looking though, since it’s so far out you may see openings pop up. I’ve never cruised on Harmony and had no idea they had balconies as low as the third deck.

Ha, totally my mistake. I had ocean view selected by mistake :) Only mid ship balconies left but that’s ok. There aren’t many left so I guess I will go ahead and book before we risk losing it. DS wants to go with the 14th level.

ETA: nevermind....decided the savings weren't worth the risk...even though it is minimal risk...so were the savings.

@Andysol ....help!

I had this screenshot saved but I was wondering if you know how to accomplish this in turbotax, since I'm not filling out line by line. I did look at the 1040 form online and understand exactly what you are saying, but I don't know how to accomplish it in turbotax. We are itemizing.Screen Shot 2019-01-31 at 6.45.20 PM.png

Haha, I’m glad there’s some availability for you! What itinerary are you doing? We went with a boardwalk balcony on 8 this time. Last time we had a far aft Oceanview balcony on 7 I think and it was nice.

Did you earn enough support clicks for this effort to be worth it? I didn’t adjust anything on my end. I just went with it.

It’s the Western Caribbean with a Perfect Day. We’ve done the Western twice before but this is nice since it has different ports including Roatan and Coco Cay which I am excited to see. We are limited to the week DS has Spring Break but it’s nice since we’ll able to do Universal for a couple of days since the cruise departs on Sun. The bad part is DS turns 13 two days before the sailing so I have to include him as an adult.

We did the Allure on the Forward Fl 12.

Funny you asked that b/c I just was coming back to update my post. I decided it wasn't worth it as well. Ha! I did figure out how to add the adjustment into the program and the savings were minimal so I just decided to skip it and avoid any potential issues. Glad to say I have filed!

I am always in the camp of don’t pay taxes unnecessarily...but the more I looked at it, saving $100 or whatever it was just wasn’t worth any potential issues.

About 2 months before the merger was announced I signed up for a SPG AMEX. I'm now sitting on what should be enough points for 4 nights at the Swan/Dolphin but instead it's half that. (grr) If I refer my husband is it possible to link his card to my existing Bonvoy account but still get his bonus points? His bonus points, what I'd get for the referral along, and what we currently have will be enough points for at least 5, possibly 6 nights. So, anyone know if we can do that?

A few questions.

I currently have both the Chase Ink Plus (“business 1”) and Chase Ink Preferred (“business 2”).

DH has Chase Ink Plus, CSP, and CSR.

I use my Chase Ink Plus for 5x on cable and cell phone bills and the very occasional MS at office supply stores.

I don’t really use the Preferred and am thinking of canceling.

For DH, we think we want to keep the CSR for the 1.5 redemptions, travel coverage and the fact that we eat out a lot so we get the multiplier there.

I’m thinking of canceling both his CSP and Chase Ink Plus.

Does anyone see something I’m missing or a reason to keep? We’d both be left with a premium card for UR transfers and redemptions (his CSR being the best of course).

At some point I’ll most likely get CSR and DH the Chase Ink Preferred.

I’d downgrade DH’s CSP to either Freedom or Freedom Unlimited. No AF. Helps AAOA. Still ears URs which can be moved to CSR.

What I ended up doing was setting the 1099s as income and my sole prop as a business in my schedule C (all via TurboTax). If you’re W2 and maxed your FICA ($128,400), it makes it kind of a no brainer.

I then line itemized “associated fees” and “valuation adjustments”. Ended up taking my overall tax burden from paying $2,600 to receiving $1,050. A $3600 swing. I had $18.5k in referral 1099s though. So it was worth it for me. My CPA buddy pushed me in this direction. I used .33 for Marriott, .2 for Hilton .9 for Delta .5 for Hyatt and .6 for AMEX. UR I kept at 1.0cpp

As a side benefit, I actually have a real business I pay taxes on now. So take that “business”. :)

Thanks! That is awesome! My referrals were waaaayyyy lower than yours. In your case, I'd totally do what I could to reduce the taxes!

Man, I have been so disappointed with AT&T this week. I received an email offer to buy one get one free iPhone XR the other day. I purchased my phone outright from AT&T a year ago and DH needs an upgrade, so I thought this was be a good time to move him from Verizon to my plan with AT&T and get us both new phones. Long story short, I finally had to escalate to a supervisor with the loyalty team today, and for some reason AT&T has down that my phone is under a contract (it's not, because I bought it outright), and they couldn't make that plan work. After much frustration, I told them to look and see what kind of deal they could offer him as a new customer to leave Verizon and come there and purchase an iPhone... nothing. The only option was to purchase an iPhone full price and pay full price for the plan. Even the supervisor was shocked. I told him I could not believe AT&T literally did not want to take in any steps to bring in new business, have someone purchase an iPhone, and for me to essentially double my bill. So I guess AT&T just wants people to stay on Verizon :confused3

We switched to total wireless this week...after much research on my part...leaving behind manybyears of Verizon. It has been great. No issues at all. Runs on Verizon towers. 2 lines for $60 and BYOD if you want. The process to switch my phone was about 20 mins at the comfort of my kitchen table. Have you considered prepaid? Clark Howard has lots of articles about the various services. The only con I can see is no hotspot, and I don’t really care. We were paying $69.44 each after taxes to share a plan at Verizon, so it is less than half price!
